## What is Mtn Tracks?

Built by someone who actually skin tracks uphill. Refined over countless cold mornings, bad weather calls, and “just one more lap” decisions. Mtn Tracks focuses on what really matters when ski touring and mountaineering — not glossy marketing metrics.

Track your tours on iPhone or Apple Watch with clean, purpose-built stats: ascent rate, vertical meters, distance, altitude, heart rate, pace, and more. Drop markers for peaks, cols, transitions, or that spot where you swore never to come back (but probably will).

The Apple Watch app is designed for real conditions: big, readable numbers, color-coded heart-rate zones, and just enough information to help you pace yourself uphill without pulling out your phone or frying your legs too early.

Back home, relive every tour on detailed maps with performance data that actually tells a story — where you pushed, where you bonked, and where things finally clicked. You can export your sessions directly to Strava, or share them as clean images or short animated tracks via Instagram, Messages, and other apps. Perfect for a quick recap, a beta check, or a quiet brag.

All sessions are stored securely in Apple’s Health app, contributing to your Fitness rings and daily goals.

No ads. No tracking. No nonsense.
Your data stays on your devices and in iCloud — not on some server you’ve never heard of. Privacy isn’t a feature here; it’s the default.

If you care about moving efficiently uphill, understanding your effort, and keeping a clean log of your adventures — Mtn Tracks has your back.

### 5/5 — Clean design!

*2026-01-08*

I have several mapping apps but this app just lets you get to recording ski tracks with minimal fuss and menu selections while having plenty of features to analyze the day après ski!

### 1/5 — Frustrating first experience

*2025-11-08*

Makes you jump through all these hoops before you even get to explore the app. I was expecting to be able to view the map and explore a bit but the guess I was misunderstanding the purpose of the application. Pretty useless unless you want to only track where you’ve been. Other apps have more useful options.

**Developer response:** Sorry the app didn’t match what you were hoping for. Mtn Tracks is focused purely on recording your outings and giving you performance metrics on the way up, plus a detailed review when you’re back home. It's not so much a general map browser.

As for those hoops, I feel that pain too. Apple insists on a permission parade before any app can touch location and healthkit data. It’s not the smoothest welcome, but it does make sure your privacy survives the trip. In the end, I think that bit of extra friction is worth it.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2026.4 — 2026-02-20

Polishing the details in this release.

• Weather data is now properly saved when ending a recording.

• Smarter GPX date handling. Strava exports should import as expected.

• Fixed a compatibility issue affecting some iOS 18 versions.

### 2026.3 — 2026-01-29

• Strava support is finally here. A long-requested feature, now ready to roll. Your tracks can head straight to Strava without any extra fuss.

• Brand-new track sharing. Share your tracks via the standard iOS share sheet — Messages, Mail, Instagram, Facebook, and more. Move, resize, and even rotate the track. Edit the title if the default doesn’t fit. Export static images or animated tracks.

### 2026.2 — 2026-01-22

• Slope-angle coloring for tracks. See how steep things really got, right there on the map. Great for spotting patterns, bad ideas, and the occasional heroic line.

• This one’s for the data nerds and Garmin refugees: GPX export and import is finally here. You can now export your sessions to share with online services, or import tracks from other apps and devices.

• Automatic session ending on low battery. If your Watch is about to die, the app now saves the session instead of going down with the ship. Recording on Apple Watch should also be a bit more reliable.

• Charts: time or distance on the X-axis. Switch depending on what you’re analyzing — pacing, efficiency, or just curiosity.

• Summer mode: record sessions as Hiking instead of Snow Sports. Because mountains don’t stop being fun when the snow melts.

### 2026.1 — 2026-01-08

Nicer-looking graphics and a smoother first-time experience. Same necessary hoops, just nicer to jump through. A short tutorial has been added to the track details view, plus some under-the-hood preparations for what’s coming next.

### 2025.3 — 2025-12-22

Winter update is here:

• Full iOS 26 support with Apple’s new Liquid Glass look
• Improved track coloring
• Heart rate is now shown in the bottom graph alongside altitude
• More visible position arrow in session details, now showing direction of travel
• Always-on dark mode option
• And an option to hide the photo stack
