## What is Muehlenstein?

Play Nine Men’s Morris on iPhone and iPad with a clear board, gentle stone movements and room to consider your next move.

Challenge the computer, take turns on one device, or play on two devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Choose Nine Men’s Morris, Twelve Men’s Morris, Morabaraba or Lasker Morris. Five difficulty levels offer different challenges.

For a Wi-Fi game, one person hosts and the other sends an invitation. Accept it to play without a pairing code. All four variants are supported. Saved games can reconnect after an interruption. Hints and undo are unavailable in network games.

Hints show a suggested move directly on the board. Turn legal targets and last-move markers on or off to suit your preferences. Review the move history or undo a move to reconsider a decision.

Your current game is saved locally. All computer moves are calculated on your device. No account or internet connection is needed to play.

• Four variants and five computer levels
• Two players on one device or two devices on the same Wi-Fi network
• Visual hints and adjustable playing aids

Muehlenstein is an independently designed native app using the free Sanmill game engine. Complete source code and license notices are publicly available. Play over the internet is not included.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.4.1 — 2026-10-12

More varied computer games: the computer varies its search and chooses between recommended opening-book alternatives. Search budgets and difficulty settings are preserved. Hints remain independent of this variation.

Review your game move by move on a separate board. Arrows and a slider take you through the history, including hints and undone moves.

Displayed hints and completed takebacks stay in the history. Game details summarize the assistance used. Existing saved games remain readable.

A new result card shows wins and draws. When legal targets are enabled, pieces that can be captured are highlighted too. All updates are available in all eight app languages.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-10-08

New: play Morris together on two devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Host a game or send an invitation – no pairing code needed.

All four variants are supported. Moves are checked on both devices and your game is saved locally. If the connection is interrupted, the board pauses; reconnect to continue the same game.

Network setup and help are available in all eight app languages. Computer games and play on a single shared device remain available.

Level 1 is now easier: the computer deliberately misses opportunities and threats. Game setup keeps the same height when switching between Computer, Two players and Wi-Fi, with difficulty now shown below the game variant.

### 1.2 — 2026-10-07

Muehlenstein now also speaks French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese in both Simplified and Traditional scripts. The interface, game rules and help are fully translated.

Your first game starts at level 1. After that, the app remembers your last confirmed difficulty, even after a restart.

Slate blue is the new default accent colour. Rose is also available, and your saved colour choice is preserved.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-03

No release notes.
