## What is MultiClock Civil/Solar/Metric?

The clock shows two different times in several different ways.

Civil time is the current time in your time zone, taking daylight saving rules into account.

Solar time depends on the position of the sun in the sky. Solar noon is when the sun is at its highest point. That moment depends on where you are, and on where the Earth is in its annual orbit around the sun.

The time display shows hours and minutes in the way you're used to. It also shows a metric time. It breaks the day into 10,000 equal-sized pieces and keeps count of them over the course of the day. Midnight is 0000, and 9999 is the instant just before the next midnight.

It also shows a progress bar for the percent of day elapsed.

The clock shows sunrise and sunset times for both civil and solar days, in the hour and minute display and in metric.

There's a "classic" display page that shows just solar metric, civil metric and civil hh:mm time.

There's a converter page that allows you to type in a time, civil or solar, hours:minutes or metric, and convert to all the other available time types.

## Key features

- Civil time with DST
- Solar time based on sun position
- Metric time (10,000 units per day)

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.0 — 2024-06-10

Release 3.0 adds a new "Classic" display for the time. This app is based on an Arduino desk clock that shows only solar metric, civil metric and civil hh:mm time. iOS offers a much richer collection of services and more display real estate than the Arduino clock did, so the original "Time" display added sunrise and sunset times and other information.

Some users requested a display that matched the original Arduino version. That's been added as the second UI tab in this release, between the "Time" and "Converter" tabs.

### 2.3 — 2024-05-10

All three of the tabbed displays -- Time, Converter and Info -- now behave the same way if the "Keep display live" option is set in the iOS Settings app for MultiClock. Previously, the Time display tried to obey that setting, but the others did not. This led to confusion and apparent randomness in the user experience. For simplicity, all tabs now obey the setting.

### 2.2 — 2024-05-08

Fixed a bug in behavior of the new "Keep display live" feature for users who want to use the MultiClock as a desk clock.

### 2.1 — 2024-05-01

You can now keep the display active, so that it does not dim or go blank, by turning on "Keep display live" in the iOS Preferences for MultiClock. This allows you to use the app as a desk clock.

This option is turned off by default, so that the screen dims and goes blank after the idle interval has passed.

### 2.0 — 2023-10-24

Fixed a bug where the 24-hour clock displayed the wrong time.

Combined the version 1 civil and solar time displays into a single time display.

Added a new Converter page that allows you to enter a time, solar or civil, hours:minutes or metric, and convert to all the other available time types.

Now handles rotation to landscape mode on phones better -- adjusts the display to use the screen real estate sensibly.

You can now swipe left or right to switch among views, in addition to tapping the tab bar icons at the bottom of the page.
