## What is Multiplex?

Multiplex is a terminal for people who live inside persistent remote sessions — built native for iPhone and iPad.

THE WALL
Hosts probe concurrently. Every session is a live monitor: its actual last screen lines, one spine segment per window, red LIVE while attached. See the whole fleet before attaching; NO SIGNAL reconnects in one tap. Run tmux, or switch a host to herdr — one tile per session, its workspaces on the spine, agent state read from herdr itself.

A SESSION WHERE YOU NEED IT
On iPad, attach opens each session in a real scene for Stage Manager, Split View, and external displays. Merge windows into tabs and split them back out — the SSH connection, buffer, and scrollback move with the tab, so shells never drop. On iPhone, the wall and terminal share one adaptive full-screen shell.

Start Claude Code, Codex, Pi, Grok Build, Antigravity CLI, or Hermes with an optional setup script, model, and first prompt in one step. ### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-26

Multiplex 1.4.1 — links and paths open beside the terminal on iPad, the app speaks Traditional Chinese and Japanese, and Antigravity CLI and Hermes Agent join the agent roster.

• On iPad a confirmed web link or file path opens in a side panel next to the pane instead of a new tab — the terminal never changes size. Drag its edge to resize it, open another and it takes the first one's place, or press TAB to move it into a tab. Open File from Shortcuts lands there too.
• Traditional Chinese and Japanese: sheets, alerts, menus, the Guide and notifications are translated. Pick the language per app in Settings ▸ Multiplex ▸ Language — the LANGUAGE row in Multiplex Settings takes you there. The short key labels stay English.
• Antigravity CLI and Hermes Agent join the agent roster: both are detected in panes, each with its own chip strip, NEW SESSION launch with model and first prompt, and a place in widgets and Shortcuts. Hermes Agent runs the prompt, then reopens on that conversation.
• Copy a session's attach command: long-press a session tile and pick Copy Command for Handoff — the clipboard gets the line that attaches that very session from a terminal on the host machine itself, tmux and herdr alike.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-20

Multiplex 1.4 — hold CTRL for the chords your keyboard cannot press, write to your agent in a message box, and watch every host's latency from the deck.

• Key Commands: hold CTRL on the key rail for saved chords the software keyboard cannot press — Shift+Enter, a double Ctrl-C, Option+Backspace to delete a word. CUSTOM SETUP adds any Ctrl/Shift/Option chord or a one-line text macro, repeated up to five times, closing the panel or not, synced to your other devices. Free keeps five; Pro raises the set to twelve. The Guide gains a HOLD CTRL card.
• Message box: the speech-bubble key opens a chat-style field under the terminal — write with autocorrect and your keyboard's dictation, attach photos or files (uploaded to the pane's folder), then send it all as one message. The key rail keeps driving the pane while you write.
• Connection Stats: a live latency chip on every host rail, and a Pro board with per-host drill-in — round-trips, typing echo, mosh loss and roams, reconnects, and data volume. Off switch in Settings.
• Keys tap back: the key rail, panel buttons and agent chips give a light haptic on press.
• The TMUX panel stays open while you switch or move between windows, workspaces and panes, with ACTIVE following where you land. An arrow row resizes panes — tap to nudge, hold to repeat. Commands run over the control connection, so no more stray letters from a dropped prefix; Rename Window gets its own name field, and the cycling rows are gone.
• Dictate in your own languages: tap the globe in the LISTENING bar to switch among your preferred languages.
• Tap a link or path and its sheet comes up on the first press, tmux mouse on or not; a file name at the right edge no longer swallows the next row's word.
• The File Viewer opens PDFs — continuous pages, pinch to zoom, page readout, UNLOCK for locked files — and plays MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, AIFF and CAF with a scrubber, 15 s skips and a remembered volume, on while you type elsewhere.
• Grok Build joins the agent roster: detected in panes, its own chip strip, NEW SESSION launch with model and first prompt, and Pro alerts when it needs permission or an answer.
• Theme edits show live in open terminal windows — Save keeps them, Back restores the old theme.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-18

Multiplex 1.3.1 — pictures in your READMEs, file paths that work in split panes, and a cleanup pass over selection, scrolling and mosh.

• In a rendered README the “image: …” placeholder is now a link: press it and the picture appears right in the document, sized to the text column — press the caption to hide it, or tap for full-screen zoom. Web-hosted images stay behind the link confirmation, which now offers a docked ⌗ viewport as well as the browser, and nothing is fetched until you press.
• File paths work in split panes. A path wrapped at a pane border is stitched back together, a match never picks up the neighbouring pane's text, and a relative path resolves against the pane you pressed.
• Shortcuts gains Open File: a host, a remote path, and an optional line — Sources/App.swift:10-15 opens read-only in a ▤ File Viewer tab with the range highlighted. Pressed paths in the terminal carry line ranges the same way.
• The key rail runs to the window's bottom edge on iPad instead of floating above the home-indicator strip — more daylight below the keys, in iPhone landscape too.
• Selection stays where you pressed. The SELECT block and the SELECT TEXT bar no longer drift upward on mosh tabs or in scrolled-back terminals, and with a second client attached the selection waits for the shared geometry to settle.
• mosh tabs keep one screen — the junk scroll area that stacked stale layouts above the live screen is gone.
• The tmux split shortcuts no longer type a stray % on iPad, and the File Viewer opens in the pressed pane's working directory on tmux and herdr alike.
• Every connection now verifies the server's SSH host key against the fingerprints recorded for that host — from Bind Host, a key pasted into Add Host → Host key, or pinned on first connection. Host Settings → Host key lists what's recorded.
• Settings → Terminal renderer can draw terminal text on the GPU with Metal — off by default, applied to newly opened terminal windows.
• Restore Purchases recovers when the App Store's restore sync fails, and its errors now name something you can act on.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-11

Multiplex 1.3.0 — run herdr instead of tmux, select text in any pane, and hear from your agents after you've walked away.

• Choose a session backend per host. Host Settings → Backend switches between tmux and herdr 0.7.5+: one deck tile per herdr session, its workspaces on the tile's spine, live miniatures, and agent state read from herdr itself. Attaching, merging, detaching, file attachment, shortcut panels, and agent history all work on either backend.
• Or show both on one host. Each refresh quietly asks the other multiplexer whether it has sessions; when it does, that host's rail offers to add them, saying what the extra checking costs. Accept and both backends' sessions share one deck, herdr's tiles in a lighter chassis; long-press the offer to stop being asked on this device. Backend is a check selection now — tick tmux, herdr, or both, with a choice of which one new sessions run on — and New Session, the Open Shell and Open Agent Shortcuts, the Host widget, and Add Host → BIND all carry that choice on a host running both.
• Long-press or double-tap terminal text — or secondary-click with a mouse or trackpad — for SELECT / SELECT ALL / PASTE right at the gesture. The selection stays inside the pane you pressed on split layouts, a floating bar carries COPY and DONE beside it, and taps stop reaching the remote until you finish. On herdr tabs the block adds MENU, which opens herdr's own pane menu where your finger was.
• Keep a host alive after you leave. Host Settings → Monitoring adds a second switch, off by default: that host's sessions and probing survive the extra running time iOS grants a departing app, and iOS can wake Multiplex later to check it again, so an agent finishing while you are elsewhere can still reach you. The timing is iOS's call, and nothing runs in the background for a host you did not switch on.
• Agent alerts now reach you about the session you were last looking at — the one most likely to be running an agent, and the one that used to stay silent. Notification permission is asked while Multiplex is on screen instead of riding your first alert.
• On iPad, a terminal window wears its own title bar: DECK, the session title, LIVE, A− A+, + TAB, FILE, TMUX, and DETACH on one slim row that matches the key rail at the other end of the pane.
• Drag window tabs into the order you want. The File Viewer gains tabs of its own — long-press a file in the tree to open it beside the first — plus ◂ ▸ browse history, and it keeps DIFF selected as you move between changed files. Reading size is yours: A− / A+ on the ▤ tab's rail or a pinch, remembered and applied to every file viewer tab.
• Every terminal carries a GUIDE chip, an illustrated field manual of that tab's gestures.
• Under mouse reporting each tap now reaches the remote immediately, one click per tap, so a TUI's own double-click lands. Widgets and Shortcuts can launch agents on herdr hosts and into an existing session. Settings → About lists every open-source component in the binary with its full license text.
• The agent strip no longer carries STOP: press ESC on the key rail to interrupt a turn.
• Rebuilt on UIKit throughout, for steadier typing, scrolling, and window handling.
