I am blind and I am an iPhone user, so I use VoiceOver which is a screen reader. I am able to read posts and comments, I’m also able to post threads, however I’m not able to comment on the threads of other users or my own threads which is really irritating. Please could you make your app accessible with screen readers to as I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds this app very useful. Many thanks ### 3/5 — Man Hater *2023-09-26, version 4.4.25* I like mumsnet, as a man, I dip in and out of it. BUT it is filled with AWFUL people who are man haters. If you post as a man you will get some nice rounded advice, but also the man haters will also be out in force. It’s the age old story. If a woman says something, sympathy and understanding, if a man expresses the same thoughts. Watch out and beware. Some VILE people on there. The app seems very sluggish at the moment too. ### 4/5 — Where is dark mode?!? *2022-12-30, version 4.4.19* I love Mumsnet and have been using the app for years - but for a mums / parenting app which may be used at any time day or night the most interminably annoying thing about using it is there is no dark mode!! I don’t want to open a super bright AIBU or Chat subject at 3am so only use it in the day which is frustrating. ### 2/5 — Need a tough skin! *2022-10-23, version 4.4.18* The app itself is smooth and fairly simple to use but the boards need a lot of reigning in and moderating. There are a small amount of users who post unsuitable advice that boarders on dangerous especially in health topics, there are an awful lot of troll posts and finally there are a lot of users who are honestly just hideous bullies and lead to posts having to be removed either because they derail them or the original poster feels attacked. It’s a shame that somewhere to ask for advice has become a place where people cannot wait to jump down your throat. ### 3/5 — Medium *2022-07-18, version 4.4.16* Useful for parental questions. Several things you need to be on the website for that the app can’t do (like pick a username). Worst bit is the content - immediately feels like a load of bored mums ranting about rubbish. Easy to use. It crashes more than I would like, but the most annoying little niggle is how the same threads come up again an again in a sort of ‘loop’ if you scroll down the threads in a category. Why is this and can it be sorted? ### 1/5 — Unable to post because new user *2019-02-04, version 4.0.6* So I got this app to help with some things I’d been dealing with , to help with the explaining I attached photos but nope not allowed to post as new user ? What’s the point in having the app if you’re restricted from the get go !? I have deleted this now because I am fed up with problems that have not been fixed. Can this feature not be added? Also, it says the latest update has added push notifications, however despite enabling them on my device, they are not working ### 1/5 — Jackie *2018-08-31, version 3.11.4* I got this app as the site was recommend by a friend, the app is fine but the site is awash with transphobic hate and bigotry not a nice place to be and they call themselves feminists. Go to the feminist chat section and you will see anti LGBT hate speech. Please remove it. ### 2/5 — Eats the battery *2018-03-23, version 3.11* Really runs down the battery. There’s no way a text-based app should drain a battery so quickly when it’s only loading and scrolling through text and the occasional ad. Similar apps are less greedy in battery life. It’s a good app otherwise with decent usability. Reduce the battery hogging and add a night reading mode and it’d be great. ### 4/5 — Just be careful *2017-12-20, version 3.10.1* Some really nasty “mums” on there, be prepared for opinions. If your pregnant people dont mind hurting you .... ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Spoiled by ads *2026-05-21, version 45.3.6* This app is awful, which is a shame as the content can be so helpful. It redirects to Amazon frequently in threads. Absolutely ridiculous. Even without touching an ad picture you’ll still be whisked off to your Amazon app. ### 1/5 — Issues with animated ads *2024-04-07, version 4.4.30* Used to be great, but recently the ads have made the app unusable. Still ads would be fine, but so many animated ads all over the screen makes it almost impossible to read anything. ### 1/5 — Avoid downloading *2023-07-17, version 4.4.24* Nasty site full of bullies and trolls. Even asking for parenting help is met with abuse and hate. The transphobic hate is full on and hardly a ‘feminist’ site when they are nasty to women. Moderators encourage the transphobia and allow abusive posters to remain on the site. Constant fat shaming and competitive under eating make ‘advice’ dangerous. ### 1/5 — Latest “upgrade” makes it less useable *2022-05-14, version 4.4.12* Latest “upgrade” means that no paragraphs can be seen on the app: posts are just a solid block of text. Apparently the paragraphs can still be seen on the desktop and mobile versions so it’s definitely an app problem. Also, when a previous post is quoted, there is a) no separation from the quote, so you need to search for where the “large” quotation mark is to start reading the actual comment on the thread, b) the WHOLE post is indented (quote AND comment), making it more awkward to read (especially, if on the app, given the lack of paragraphs) c) and the most serious/annoying issue: the end of posts are truncated (by, I think, at least 5 words) on the comments on quoted posts. In some cases, if someone has used the “quote post” function, but only added a short comment, the whole quoted post is not visible, let alone the comment! This is having a major impact on the readability of Mumsnet. ### 1/5 — Lost my post *2022-01-27, version 4.4.6* Just wrote a massive long post, tried to post it, it said I need to create a username, tried to scroll up to see where to put the username and the post disappeared. So annoying. Deleting this app ### 1/5 — Tumblr,but worse *2021-11-20, version 4.4.6* This is genuinely quite a worrying app filled with so much hate and misinformation it scares me. If your looking for a positive space where you can get trustworthy info, keep looking ### 1/5 — Full of Bullies *2021-11-12, version 4.4.5* Just as the title says please avoid like the plague. Some really nasty people commenting on posts. The admin/people that run the site themselves are very understanding and helpful though. ### 1/5 — Crashing *2021-05-09, version 4.4.4* Causing my iPhone to crash requiring forced restart. Has happened a few times now and only with this app. Have deleted. ### 1/5 — Disgusting- congregation for bullies *2020-10-12, version 4.4.0* The amount of hate speech and bullying on this app is absolutely disgusting. Please do NOT download this app if you are vulnerable or let your children 17+ download this as it states. The moderators have no idea what they are doing. I asked for one of my posts to be deleted as the responses upset and caused me serious offence, I was told they would delete it ‘reluctantly’ and would not do this in future if I asked!! Apparently the ‘hurtful’ comments to myself were thoughtful and people took time out their day to respond to my post. Id rather have a post with NO responses than responses that I received! I am seeing it more and more on this app. The abuse and comments from these keyboard warriors is absolutely disgraceful. It has taken a tole on my self esteem for sure and I haven’t been on it for long. Don’t understand the good reviews on here. The app itself works well but that’s about it. A warning needs to be sent out from the moderators or they need to change the ‘not pre moderated’ just to get quicker responses ! ### 1/5 — BULLYING *2019-10-16, version 4.0.15* Would strongly advice not to get this, you would think with it being a mums group you wouldn’t get bullied and tarnished. It’s a mine of advice and information. There’s a lot opportunity to help and support others too as mumsnetters have such diverse experiences and knowledge. ### 5/5 — Superb app (don’t know why anyone uses the website) *2021-06-07, version 4.4.4* The best forum app I’ve ever used - simple and intuitive, and really fast. I have an 7 year old phone, and this app still runs super-smoothly on it.
