## What is Murder Maps?

Step into the world of true crime like never before.
Murder Maps reveals the chilling reality of homicide cases that happened right around you — the same cases you’ve seen on true crime shows such as Forensic Files, 20/20, and Cold Justice.

When you open the app, Murder Maps scans a 30-mile radius around your location and uncovers nearby murder cases featured on real investigative shows. Each pin on the map marks where a body was discovered — along with the victim’s story, case details, and what investigators uncovered.

Whether you’re traveling to a new city or exploring your hometown, the map updates automatically as you move. Every region has its own dark history waiting to be explored.

The Map
	•	Over 440 incidents!
	•	Daily "Incident of the Day" from outside your area
	•	Daily "On This Day" shows incidents that have happened today
	•	Share Incidents
	•	Built with privacy in mind — your location data never leaves your device
	•	Too busy to dig deeper, archive up to 5 incidents to view later
	•	Each case includes a title, description, and background on the victim
	•	Explore real murder cases near your current location
	•	Map automatically updates when you travel to a new area
	•	Clean, intuitive interface for true crime fans

Unlock a deeper connection to the stories that once made headlines.
Because sometimes… the past is closer than you think.

### 3/5 — Misses the mark

*2026-05-20*

Obviously this app is underdeveloped so I’m not taking it too seriously but I might as well give some constructive criticism.

The idea is interesting in theory, but there’s not much to it. For one, you’re only able to view the cases that occurred “near” you; in other words, within your state. This makes the app kind of pointless in my opinion. I live in NC and there were only 3 case locations for me to click on, even though I live near the South Carolina border and know of plenty homicides that occurred within a closer proximity to me. If there were an option for users to submit cases themselves, then that would significantly improve the app.

One thing that bothered me was the “tutorial” you cannot escape from, upon opening the app for the first time. It makes you click on a case, then “favorite” it. For starters, there are like 3 buttons on the app total so I doubt anyone needs an unskippable tutorial, but also, when I’m bombarded by the pretty well-known murder of a college student and am forced to “favorite” it, I just find that pretty insensitive as someone who has lost a family member to murder. Maybe change that?

Cool and interesting concept. But doesn’t seem well fleshed out. Perhaps it’s not an app meant to be taken seriously in the first place and was just an experiment, idk.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the thoughtful feedback — this is genuinely helpful criticism!

You make a great point about the onboarding experience. We’re going to make the tutorial skippable, and I also agree that asking users to “favorite” a real homicide case can come across as insensitive. Definitely going to fix the wording.

You also raised a valid concern about incident coverage and location limits. Right now the database is still growing, so coverage can feel sparse depending on the area. Incident suggestions can currently be sent through the “Contact Us” section, but I agree that a dedicated user submission feature would be a much better approach and I can build that and have it on the next update.

I appreciate you taking the time to write a detailed feedback. Comments like this help improve the app. So thank you!
