Although I know not all mushrooms are in the database, the search option is still inaccurate for the the ones that are in the database. I am honestly not pleased with the app and I wish I could have a refund. ### 2/5 — Dangerous *2019-10-13* It’s not possible to edit a mushroom identity, if it’s not in the predefined set of possibilities. The app identified a destroying angel as a stinkhorn, and wouldn’t let me edit the details. Also can’t update the location if you upload the photo somewhere other than where you took it. ### 3/5 — Not great for identifying, but... *2019-09-28* This app does not do a good job identifying mushrooms from your photographs. In fact it has never correctly identified anything I’ve submitted a search for. But it does give good descriptions and pictures of many species found in my area. ### 3/5 — Good app *2019-07-08, version 4.10* Needs more mushrooms ### 3/5 — Not bad but not worth the price *2019-05-28, version 4.10* Good info on lots of mushrooms but lacking in bracket fungus. ### 2/5 — Hunting mode? *2018-08-01* Can’t seem to access any sort of map or gps enabled “hunting mode”. Can I have my mooolah back? That’s the only reason I bought it. I have an up to date iPhone so all the features from your picture advertisements should work! **Developer response:** Hi Junior, the mushroom map is being created along the identifying process. After you make a picture and identify the mushroom press the YES button. Thus, you confirm that the fungus is recognized correctly and create a photo-note with reference to the map. After you have at least one photo tag, you can access it from the main screen, and open the map with all the places marked there. Don't hesitate to contact our tech support - support@app-grade.com and ask any question you have! ### 2/5 — Camera Feature Not Accurate *2018-06-18* Incorrectly identities 3 out of 5 photos that I ran through the camera-search feature. The app has loads of information on its available species, but it simply doesn’t function as advertised. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future update, but for now, there are free apps that do a much better job. **Developer response:** Please contact our tech support - we would examine the pics that weren't identified. Looking forward to hear from you at support@app-grade.com ### 3/5 — Please expand your database *2018-05-16* The database of mushroom for search is not too comprehensive. Please beef it up. Please also include more real-life pictures of the mushroom for id purpose, since I don’t find drawings that helpful. In any case, I’m rather disappointed to pay for the app but it’s not very useful. A lot of searches with camera pics don’t yield any result. Shazam, this is not (yet). The idea of it, when it works (as Shazam does), is great. This app is not quite there yet. **Developer response:** Hi! The reason we include drawings is to highlight some features you should check while scrutinizing the mushroom - it is the safety. And we do not include too much pics to keep the app not that large. But we shall keep your advice in mind and if we get more requests shall definitely do it. It identified bright red Gandomera tsugae as birch polypore. The illustrations it uses if you are searching through the app for a match could be a lot better. **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Can you send us the one (or more) of this pictures? Then we can check our neuro-net with this data set. After identification, are you checked the whole list of similar fungi, or looked only at the most likely? ... since not one mushroom is identified, but the whole list of similars sorted by probability. If recognition is not done at all in half the cases - it's very strange, and we would be very happy if you send us (support@app-grade.com) screenshots or pics of those mushrooms. Thank You! ### 3/5 — Psilocybin should not be categorized as poisonous *2018-01-09* Psilocybin containing mushrooms should not be categorized as poisonous, they should be in a category of their own, perhaps not under edible, but definitely not poisonous, a separate icon other than skull and cross bones to describe inedible. Needs more work.. i will keep the app as it contains useful information non the less. **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Its for security reason, hope You can understand us. But if you looking at list with mushrooms, You will see little difference in visualisation for all psy-mushrooms ;) ### 2/5 — Definitely don’t trust *2017-12-15* The “shazam” feature is experimental at best. The database is incomplete at best. It incorrectly ids some of the easiest mushrooms; chicken of the woods, beefsteaks, turkey tails. Even some popular mushrooms you can find at the farmers market like lions mane or maitake are missing from the database. It does id some correctly and gets close on others but more bad than good at least for the South East US. Im an amateur mushroom hunter, and I would recommend not eating anything identified by this app. **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! We will try to add some missing mushrooms in future releases. ### 1/5 — Ugh *2017-12-09* I wish I could give this horrible app negative stars. I have never gotten a correct ID from my pictures. Not once. Just today it identified oyster mushrooms as golden chanterelles and gave a 66% probability. If I shudder to think anyone might actually use this thing thinking it was foolproof. Thank You! ### 2/5 — Nice information, that’s it *2017-10-09, version 3.5* Nice photos and information, but other than that not great, used it when out mushroom picking and 90% of the time it either gave a 50/50 chance of working or recognising. Was it a waste of money? Yes as the app didn’t really work. Every time I took a photo of them I got the message that they were probably not mushrooms. This app is rubbish. It identified a dyrad saddle mushroom as 7 different mushrooms in a row... not an app you can use to be trust worthy. How can I get a refund? ### 1/5 — Not worth the money 😩 *2019-06-01* I was excited to try something that might narrow down some of my unknown mushrooms and let me record my locations, but after trying it out with the known species, I was very disappointed in how inaccurate the App’s photo identification is. I used multiple photos of the same species (different angles and lighting) to see if a better quality photo would make a difference in accuracy. It misidentified every photo and species except the Chicken of the Woods and black trumpets. It could not ID Hen of the Woods, chanterelles (2 sp), painted bolete, Old Man of the Woods, Dryad’s Saddle, and several other inedible species, each with multiple photo ID attempts. Also, the app froze every time a photo was deleted from the photo ID list. As for the location record, I could only record the current location while using the app, it would not let me pin a location for a previously found mushroom, not helpful for places with no cell and/or gps service. Bottom line, if you’re spending money, get a regular ID app if you want something reliable and DEFINITELY don’t rely on this App for edibles vs poisonous varieties!!! **Developer response:** We kindly ask you to get in touch with our support@app-grade.com and send us pictures that were not identified correctly, we thrive to provide the best identification and deal with every issue. Of course, not all mushrooms are in the guide (this is impossible), but more than in other similar apps and in most books. Certainly not all my photos are recognized by 100% correctly, but in my experience, in most cases, the correct answer among the top 3-4 in the list of the most similar. This is not bad i think. So I will wait for spring and check it all in the forest.
