I played OG mushroom wars on console. My 2 biggest gripes about this app/ game. Every single turn is paywall after paywall. Also watching the ads / videos NEVER works and you don’t get the reward. Seems scamming/ suspicious. I completely understand a free game having some paywalls to pay for the development team and etc. but it’s seriously every single turn you have it. You get 1 free story/ campaign chapter then it’s boom. Pay for more or go play multiplayer. Which is actually a fun game mode with very few P2W problems. @ Developers : PLEASE fix the ads/ rewards. Not everyone wants to crack open their wallet and drop money into games especially when they can’t even watch an ad and get something for free! ### 3/5 — Pay 2 win *2026-07-28, version 2026.1.0* Great game but they’ve turned it into a pay to win game. However they completely ruined the balance of the game when they added a feature that allows you to use an ability from a different hero as yours and it doesn’t even cost energy to use. If you have the additional ability and your opponent doesn’t you are almost guaranteed to win. I wish they’d add a mode where you can play only against other people who don’t have the extra ability. Especially when doing challenges or special events. Asides from that the game is great very playable with out paying for unlimited charges with your characters in fact makes it fun because it forces you to use other characters instead of sticking to just one. ### 2/5 — The game cant start after last update !! *2026-06-25, version 2026.1.0* After the last update two days ago, the game no longer opens, only the start screen appears and after the reloading bar ends, the game hangs, I try to redownliad the game but still same problem. Please issue a repair update to solve the problem. If i turned off the internet the game open and works fine but once the internet is on the game immediately stop and freeze till i force close the game. ** my mobike: iPhone 12 / ios 26 ### 2/5 — Decent game *2026-06-20, version 2025.8.2* To many unfair match ups in ranked mode. You get people with super high level skills and items even when you are newer and lower level. Also I have noticed a bunch of cheaters that blow right through you cause they use cheats for way faster than normal upgrades and troop growth far beyond what you can actually do and there is literally no way to report they are cheating. Cause that makes sense. Makes it seem like the devs don’t care about people cheating in their game or having a fair system for a “ranked mode”. For perspective, it’d take years or lots of real money to achieve tier 7-9 yet they’ve got me going against them nonstop. Each tier is magnitudes better in equipment and power so it’s impossible to win btw. I child could come to their developer meeting and explain “hey, pair tier 6 with tier 6. I understand the monitization, but maybe a happy medium would be the option to play a gamemode WITHOUT the powerups, but also leave the current mode for p2p players too. Also remove the upgrades. The way I see it as a new player, If i Dont want to spend money I need to play matches to upgrade, this is normal, but it just becomes who has more upgrades, not being a better player. Why would i play alot to upgrade when im only matched against upgraded with overpowered powerups people. Whenever i match with someone with simmilar upgrades and we both use no powereups im reminded how incredibly fun and addicting this game is! If you read anything, read this. I think i speak for EVERYONE when i say we just want to load up a match, and even if the other person is better and wins, I just wana start a match knowing we are even with only strategic planing allowing a win, and loosing cause I got outplayed! Deliberately slowed down to give the payed players the win, soldiers literally evaporating, forges mean nothing, 2…3 doesn’t matter. Or, pitted against some level 5 player (which u cannot see), whom you thrash, to no satisfaction. If not for the adage: ‘once started, better finish’ and the lack of alternatives, would be long gone. Best not to even start, as the long wait for higher levels to bring better game play is an utter farce. In the last week they’ve slowed me to a crawl. Everyone beware these creators are extremely greedy. ### 1/5 — A Dire Fall From Grace………… *2026-04-22, version 2025.8.2* I remember first playing the original Mushroom Wars on the PlayStation 3 back in 2009, the year before I started high school. I have vivid memories playing that game, and I had an absolute blast. Those were the days, man! Fast forward 17 years later, and I stumble upon Mushroom Wars 2: TD Strategy. I was originally trying to find an app that provided information on various psilocybin mushroom strains — with no luck whatsoever — however, I ended up finding MW2TDS in the process instead, which immediately caught my attention through a wave of obvious and warm nostalgia. I got over this app fairly quickly, and it just did not have the charm like it did back in the day. The thing that annoyed me the most was seeing how much of a pay-to-win micro transaction game this has become, and the recent reviews for this game are rough, sharing very similar sentiments. The game also feels too complicated for newcomers, and there are too many changes and features. The user interface or main menu is too intimidating and much too complex, with most things requiring money to use anyway lol? If the devs end up responding to this review, please do not give me your generic-copy-pasted-corporate-PR message that you send to everyone who criticizes you; I do not use discord (nor do I actually care), and strategy does not even mean anything anymore when whoever’s wallet is biggest matters most over everything: this is a damn shame! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Bring Back Random Maps *2026-08-16, version 2026.1.0* I played this game back in 2020, and honestly, it used to be really good. Back then, the game was much more rewarding. You could earn enough diamonds through rewards and other activities that your character never really felt starved for power. Progression felt satisfying. The maps are a completely different story now. Before, the game would randomly choose from the entire pool of maps, so every match felt different. You never knew what map you were going to get, and that made the game much more enjoyable. Now, with this seasonal system, there are only a few maps available in each season. And it doesn’t even feel properly random. Somehow, I keep getting the same few popular maps over and over again. Playing the same maps repeatedly gets boring really fast. I miss the feeling of loading into a match and actually wondering which map I’d get. Another really frustrating thing is ranked mode. Most of the time, it feels like I’m playing against bots. I’ll play a ranked match, quit, start another one, and somehow I’m matched with another bot again. It makes ranked feel pointless and takes away the competitive aspect of the game. I really miss how this game felt in 2020. It had much more variety, progression felt more rewarding, and matches were more exciting. I hope the developers reconsider the current map rotation and seasonal system and bring back more variety and truly random map selection. ### 1/5 — Pay 2 Win x Infinity *2026-08-10, version 2026.1.0* First off, how is this 4.5 stars when you read reviews and every other review is 1 star? Game almost always has you as the underdog. Skill matters early on as you easily wreck bad gamers. As your ranking improves though, you are constantly pitted against people twice your level with way more advantage from the passive skill tree/items etc. Download if you want to feel the urge to buy packs every other game, because an upgrade only lasts as long as your next bump up the ranking. Some suggestions that would keep me playing and spending money: Fix match making. It should be based on a power number using skill tree progress/item power. Make the skill tree more dynamic. Can you still play free? Absolutely. Will you ever have fun in your matches without getting completely stomped by someone who has their upgrades way higher than yours? Probably not. Game is big on paying for artifacts that make you overpowered and not to mention the matchmaking is garbage and you can match with someone who is way higher level than you that you have no chance of beating. Don’t worry though they’ll match you up with bots so you win a few rounds every now and again. Only major flaw is that the items, upgrades, and abilities are extreme which negates a lot of skill based play and just benefits whoever is higher in rank. If you’re level 5,000 your odds of beating someone that is under 4,000 is easy and if you’re matched with someone 6,000+ then you’re done. Same goes for if they’re have all yellow artifacts and you’re at purple.
