As time went on, I felt like I stopped progressing and I was not at a point in my learning the piano that I felt I should have been. The program did not explain things very well and I was not learning the notes on the keyboard. I searched for another app that was better, and I found that in the Musiah app. The Musiah program uses artificial intelligence, and I have to say it’s pretty good. It’s just like having your own personal instructor sitting right next to you. The AI explains things well. If I didn’t understand things the first time, I can play it over until it makes sense to me. The program points out what I am doing wrong and tells me what I need to do to improve. The Musiah app has games that has really helped me to learn the notes on the staff and keyboard. It has helped me learn the music symbols as well as the terminology. This was something I was really needing in the other program. I have been using the Musiah app now for a couple of months and I have aspired to the fourth of 13 levels of learning. I don’t feel stuck anymore. When I am having a hard time playing a piece of music, the program has a practice area that lets me play at my own speed until I can play at a more regular tempo. The program is a great value, considering the cost of having a live instructor, and it offers a lot of support and encouragement both within the app and online. One must be committed to learning to play the piano. Learning takes time, and with the Musiah app it is making the process for me both easier and more enjoyable. Thanks, Brendan, for creating this wonderful program! ### 5/5 — Musiah *2021-09-28, version 2.6.9* This is more of a story about me and how Musiah played a role in restoring a hope I thought was all but dead. I always hoped of being able to learn an instrument and grew up with a seldom used piano in the house. After several traumatic grade school attempts with teachers, I entered life at 18 without being able to play a single song on any instrument. I attempted piano lessons with a local teacher in one of the first towns I lived. I practiced at a local church and I was self-conscious of the childish sounds I was producing; I only practiced there a couple of times. I started using a sheet of paper where I drew piano keys to scale. Although the teacher thought I was doing fine, it was not that satisfying playing on a sheet of paper. I stopped after the second lesson and walked to a nearby music store and bought a cheap classical guitar and a Mel Bay lesson book. For over 40 years I carried that guitar and a small box of necessary paraphernalia. Several times I pulled it out. For a few weeks or months, I would struggle to learn. Nothing more than a couple of songs here or there and eventually I packed it up again. A couple years back in a downsizing event, I sold it at a garage sale to someone that could put it to use. I convinced myself that learning an instrument was a child’s game. Young hands and minds with plenty of time and a lifetime ahead. All hope gone, but a lingering desire remained. I believe one nemesis of my playing was tempo. I had no real issues learning the notes and reading the music, but I struggled when it came to playing at the proper tempo. Fussing with a metronome, I struggled, not really knowing if I played anything at the correct tempo with accurate timing and duration. Stumbling with notes while trying to play at the correct tempo, I never knew for sure when I had learned the song well enough to move on to the next. I soon would hit a wall of discouragement where I saw no improvement and the guitar would just gather dust until I put it away again. 62 years old, and one last attempt. Digital pianos in a digital world, like a word processor to a manual typewriter. Could I find a solution, was there still hope? My research indicated only one learning option that satisfied all my concerns and gave a spark to my dying hope of playing an instrument. That was Musiah. I basically read everything on the Musiah website regarding practice tips, several videos regarding hands and positioning, and many articles of interest. Based on the many resources available on the Musiah website, I researched and purchased the best quality digital piano I could afford. I made sure that it was compatible with the Musiah App and an iPad. The piano arrived, I put it together, downloaded Musiah, hooked up the iPad, and began another attempt to learn an instrument. There was a bit of a learning curve with using the product, but within a few weeks I had progressed to be able to play beyond anything I had done before. Hope was returning. Each song presented new challenges, I thought, how will I ever learn this. Note by note, Measure by Measure, Musiah teaches a structured lesson plan through an interactive interface with audio dialog and visual feedback. When it comes to applying the teaching and preparing to demonstrate what I have learned, it is the practice area I find to be priceless. What training wheels are to learning to ride a bicycle, the practice area is to learning ride the metronome. Keeping balance with tempo, time, and duration. Being able to hold myself accountable for playing each segment or the entire song in tempo and knowing precisely how well I was doing. Each lesson passed with that feeling you see in a child when you remove the training wheels, and they look back realize no one is holding them and they are riding on their own. That is the feeling I am trying to convey. I could describe experiences with each lesson, but one that stands out was with the developer’s arrangement of Fur Elise. At first, the song seemed out of reach. When I did reach the end of that lesson and first played the piece with the backing track, it was a euphoric feeling as goose bumps rose on my arms and my eyes started to water from the joy as I realized; I am playing this! It was an e-ticket ride as hours of practice diminished to that 5-star moment of joy. Hope was alive again and I credit Musiah with being a critical component in its resuscitation. Don’t tell the developer, I don’t want it going to his head. After all, with 2 years and hundreds of hours of practice it would be unrealistic to say I don’t have any issues or suggestions for the App, but nothing that is a deal breaker that I couldn’t adapt to my strategies. Such issues and suggestions I discuss directly with the developer who is quick to respond with gracious words that acknowledge my concerns and provide support and encouragement. That human response and the information provided on the Musiah website are extra credit in my view. I am about to begin my third year with the Musiah course, and I only have two lessons remaining to complete the course. It may have taken hundreds of hours of practice, but with Musiah’s practice area there is a game like feeling. Each attempt displays your accuracy with a “score” that includes Notes, Timing, and Duration. Adjusting your game “tempo” until you reach full tempo a 100% accuracy. The problem for me is knowing when to stop. Like when I got my first home video game and played space invaders until I couldn’t move my hands. It seems that many other people complete the course in much less time, but I am a not like other people, or so I am told. I tend to take my time, especially with foundations and fundamentals. The last two years have been an amazing journey that have taken me to destinations I could only dream of reaching. For me, Musiah becomes less about on counting the hours and more about making the hours count. David Upstate NY US ### 5/5 — Fun, organised and rewarding *2021-08-30, version 2.6.9* I love Musiah. I decided to try piano as a complete beginner this summer to give myself a challenge. I bought a digital piano with Bluetooth (mine is the Roland FP10) then subscribed to Musiah on my iPad. I initially took the free trial but found I didn’t want to give up the progress I had made in such a short time. It’s like having Brendan beside you as a teacher as you make your way through the lessons and is much cheaper than paying a private piano teacher. The lessons are fun and put you through your paces while gradually building up your knowledge of how to read music. I do one or sometimes two lessons a day and 2 months later I’m about to start level 3 which I’m quite proud of (as someone who didn’t even know how to sit at a piano 2 months ago, never mind play one!) I know that Brendan has been playing since childhood and teaching for many years so as a primary school teacher I can see that he uses professional methods like gentle encouragement, repetition and revising, and knows when to go back over something if he knows that’s what’s holding you back. So I’m not exactly a beginner. My biggest hurtle is timing. This app actually points out where you played the note and where it should have been played. The accompanying metronomes,very nice. I like how the lessons are structured and the progression. The different keyboard sounds with each lesson is also helpful to develop your ear. I gave it a 4 because the print is just to small. I have to lean to far forward to read the notes and anything else written. It’s not a matter of putting on glasses, the print is just to small. I use a ipad 12.9” and can’t pinch it bigger. It doesn’t matter if it landscape or portrait its to small. Please make the print bigger PLEASE! ### 5/5 — Impressive Piano teacher *2021-07-09, version 2.6.9* I found Musiah when I googled an online Piano lesson for my kids during the Covid lockdown. Since nobody in my family has any background in music, I was not sure how this is going to go. Amazingly, Musiah's approach is so structured and easy to follow that my son (6 years old) immediately fell in love with it. Musiah's instant feedback helped him correct his mistakes on the spot. Also the fact that he can do it at his own pace and whenever he wants to helped him gain his momentum. He was homeschooling because of the Covid pandemic and every time he gets a break from his class, he is at the Piano doing Musiah. He started the lesson 9 months ago and he is now at the final level playing like a pro with his little fingers. I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon Musiah as it is truly amazing. Whenever we need to take a break, pausing it is as simple as one click and Brendan always sends a personal kind note to acknowledge the request. Resuming is also simple and you can pick back up right where you left off. Musiah is our go-to to satisfy home-school music requirement. The platform is enjoyable and the kids did make progress quickly. In particular my son- the lessons sparked an interest in him we did not know existed. Thank you! ### 5/5 — Structured learning with real time feedback *2021-03-09, version 2.6.7* I’m an older adult learner and have been using Musiah in pure-mode (game interface turned off) for one year. I’ve just started the final song. I’ve progressed further using Musiah in one year than I did in about three years of college piano classes (that I took 20 years ago). I believe the acceleration was due to the instant feedback I got with Musiah. My college classes met only once a week so I often incorrectly practiced a piece for days before we met. I’d then have to unlearn and relearn the piece... Musiah’s practice area is simply outstanding. It allows you to control which measures to practice, which hand(s), the tempo, backing track or metronome, and more. You can have Musiah demo the song so you can hear what it’s supposed to sound like. Musiah gives you instant visual feedback about note accuracy, timing, and duration so you know immediately when you’re not playing the piece correctly. You need to commit the time to get the most out of Musiah. You need to treat this like a real class with homework and tests. Musiah will not let you advance levels without achieving minimum passing scores on auditions. In summary, Musiah’s structured approach kept me on track and I learned a lot. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been rewarding and has given me the confidence to continue on. ### 5/5 — A great experience *2021-02-09, version 2.6.6* As a “senior” adult with decades of experience playing guitar I looked at many different programs and options to fulfill a life long desire to learn the piano. I was starting with music knowledge but no piano experience. The instant feedback in Musiah had me hooked at the first trial. If you are off on the note, timing or duration you will know. That got me started but what kept me going for the long haul was developing a sense of trust in the pace of development, and because of that confidence that I would succeed. The pieces were interesting and fun but sometimes seemed impossible...at first. Impossible became possible with patience and practice. Near the end of the course when I started playing more outside of Musiah I used the same philosophy and techniques successfully and with a great deal of personal satisfaction. Plus this had made me improved and I can’t stop playing this game, ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Hoping v2.8 issues get addressed *2026-05-15, version 2.8.0* I've been a happy user of Musiah on the previous version (2.7.x) — minor bugs aside, it would have earned 5 stars from me. Unfortunately, the 2.8 update has made daily practice difficult enough that I felt I should share some specific feedback. A few issues stand out on iPad: – In portrait orientation, the bar view jumps and flickers, and selecting bars through the UI is nearly impossible. – Lesson 88 ("Lazin' Around") used to display 23 bars; it now shows only 11, and repeats no longer seem to be accounted for. This makes it hard to drill into the specific subsections I want to practice. – In loop mode, the option to loop with breaks appears to have been removed. When practicing a passage that doesn't begin and end on the same hand position, that pause was essential for repositioning. Without it, I either wait through a full repetition or hit restart and lose my count. I'd love to keep using the app, and I'd gladly update this review to 5 stars if these issues were addressed in a future update. You have to pay straight away, and I never got to figure out what the password was!😾🤮🙀😡 ### 1/5 — Over hyped and slow learning process *2023-01-29, version 2.7.10* I was very intrigued and excited when I came across Musiah. I was puzzled as to why there is no independent reviews of the app on YouTube or elsewhere. I decided to try it since there was a trial. This app drills in sight reading but it makes the learning process overall very slow and tedious. It’s lacking images of hand placement, music notation screen size is small, for learning many other apps are quick to get you going with sight reading and playing songs. Musiah seems more focused on making things take more time because the instructions aren’t as intuitive as they could be. As hopeful as I was to love Musiah I simply find myself discouraged by it each time I go in for a lesson. I’m also confused as to where the artificial intelligence is really shining, nothing seems to really adapt to you that much unless you make a lot of errors and then it just repeats to you what was wrong with that pretty much like any video game that has boundaries of what’s correct. Overall I think the app has potential but seems unfinished and more about subscription and hype. Where are the independent reviews just try some google searches, the most you will get is some discussions on forums. Update: There is no independent reviews for Musiah except for what the developer has as links to provide? There isn’t any reviews on YouTube except for what is hosted by Musiah’s account. 16 times faster for learning piano where is the proof of that? Over hyped app, removed another star since the constructive criticism is met with outdated sophistry and logical fallacies as to what Artificial Intelligence means. This app could be really great if it actually had artificial intelligence teaching you, but as with the responses it seems more focused on marketing and getting your subscription than you actually learning piano, just learn it 16 times faster! ### 1/5 — No mention of needing to suscribe *2022-09-16, version 2.7.10* Wasn’t able to do anything but here the piano in the settings. I have a contest tomorrow. ### 4/5 — Wonderful training but flaky mini connectivity *2022-04-22, version 2.7.10* The training provided by Musiah is wonderful, well presented, challenging and I really like the focus on timing and general feedback. Out of all the piano apps I’ve tried (I’ve tried most of them) this seems by far the best teaching tool, at least so far for a beginner like myself. Customer support has also been first class, I’ve been having intermittent issues with the hardware midi interface to my iPad not always being detected correctly by the app and needing to be connected in a specific order, hopefully this is just an issue between my old piano and iPad that will soon be resolved with a new Bluetooth adapter. ### 4/5 — The best piano teaching app *2022-01-05, version 2.6.9* Definitely the best piano teaching app I’ve found. Obviously nothing can realistically replace an actual teacher, but I like how this shows ‘sheet music’ on the screen, rather than moving karaoke style notes or the weird block things that some apps use. Everything is broken down nicely, and errors are shown to you. I do find the ‘you played extra notes’ irritating after I’ve stumbled trying to shift positions, but there’s only so much an app can detect. It’s brilliant that you can just end the lesson and opt to practise independently instead before doing the performance/audition. ### 5/5 — Recommended for older adults *2026-01-27, version 2.7.11* I recently retired and the number one thing on my bucket list was to learn to play the piano. I spent an enormous amount of time researching different methods and apps and kept coming back to Musiah so I signed up and am so happy that I did. I find the app is easy to work with especially when I get stuck in certain areas, the games and practice sections provide the help needed to improve and move on. I’m amazed about how these exercises improved my playing. With this app I feel like I am learning to play the piano, whereas with other apps, they seem to concentrate on just learning to play a song, which is not what I want I also am quite pleased with customer service. They are responsive, polite and professional. It’s not like signing up to a service never again to have human contact with them. Even the inventor has responded to my help requests I would recommend this app to anyone that is serious about learning how to play the piano ### 5/5 — A really great app to learn piano properly *2026-01-06, version 2.7.11* Musiah is an absolutely fantastic app for anyone who wants to learn to play the piano properly. I’ve been using it for a while now and it’s been a great way to learn at my own pace. I really like how it teaches both the practical playing and the music theory behind it. The instant feedback on my playing has been especially helpful — it shows where I’ve slipped up and how to fix it. There are also lots of useful practice tools built in, like note‑reading exercises, quizzes, and memory games. I’ve found these surprisingly fun and they’ve helped me improve more consistently. There’s also a story‑based section designed for kids, which I think my young grandchildren will enjoy when they’re old enough to try it. It looks like a nice way to make learning feel more like an adventure. I’m grateful to have found Musiah. It’s become an ideal way for me to learn and practise the piano anytime. I have always enjoyed listening to music, but never played an instrument. While my former piano instructor was diligent, I was never going to learn to play. Musiah has been able to help me by providing immediate feedback and to a way to gradually move from untimed practice promoting physical memory to preparing for my audition. More than once, I thought I would never learn to play the faster tunes, but I did it. My learning to play at my age has been challenging, but Musiah sticks by me along the way even when I have not been a good student. The cost is less than tuning my hybrid piano and even less now with the new billing options. I loaded Musiah app on my iPad and connected the iPad with my digital piano. The app not only shows to me what notes to play but is able to find the slightest mistake I play and correct me. But people seems to be unaware of what this software can do! 5 stars because there are no 6. ### 5/5 — Musiah is Incredible! *2025-01-15, version 2.7.11* Plain and simple, Brendan Hogan and the Musiah Team have cracked the code on how to teach anyone (who really wants to learn) how to play the piano. I have tried books, multiple computer programs, even real-people teachers to learn piano, and although I learned a lot from all of them, after a period of time my motivation fizzled out and I stopped. When my son showed me what A.I. could do, I asked him to see if there were any A.I. piano programs. He checked and Musiah was mentioned. The program is incredible! Musiah is the best kept secret in the App Store and should be as well known as many other (inferior, IMHO) programs that pop up when you type in piano instruction. I wrote above that it can teach anyone who REALLY wants to learn how to play piano because Musiah is challenging, but the familiar structure of each lesson, very specific feedback on performance, practice area, metronome, and backing tracks all combine to create a “secret sauce” that keeps me motivated and coming back day after day to learn a little more. No other program comes close to Musiah in somehow intuiting just what is needed in any given moment. That’s clearly the A.I. part. Brendan even laughs (kindly and knowingly) when I totally screw up an audition, which causes me to laugh rather than criticize myself. Musiah is masterfully constructed and worth every penny of its very reasonable subscription price. Going through Musiah, I am leaning how to play piano, learning how to be patient with myself, learning how to be persistent, and learning I can accomplish more than I thought possible. Jerry ### 5/5 — Fantastic app! *2025-01-11, version 2.7.11* I am surprised there are so few ratings, this app is a real gem! The thought and care that went into it is incredible. Unlike any other app, this app gives actual piano lessons, taking the student through a piano learning curriculum with MusicTheory and complete piano pieces at varying levels of difficulty so that students of all backgrounds can benefit. There is also a growing library of pieces outside of the lessons. Regardless of other applications that students may be using, this app has a place, because it gives detailed feedback on how well you play and incentivizes you to repeat things until they are played well. It has features that no other app has in terms of giving feedback on your accuracy of playing noes, timing, rhythm and note duration. The visual feedback is particularly cool and very helpful for recognizing whether you are playing correctly or not as you play. Although the app is most useful for young students learning piano, I feel it is also for proficient players given the library of pieces outside the lessons and the very useful feedback on my playing. The app is constructed to be very attractive to younger audiences. It also has a mode for adults which I find fine, and I am fine ignoring being called “earthling.” The app truly uses AI technology by adjusting how it teaches you based on how well you are doing. It is like a real piano class with personal feedback and instruction by a teacher, as well as a practice area and then an audition, which gives you a score based on how well you play through the piece. Most helpful is that at the conclusion of each level you are asked to audition three random pieces from the level of the course that you have completed. It’s a simulation of an actual recital which you must complete well enough to pass to advance to the next level. Doing this I feel like I’m actually playing before a live audience, which is extremely helpful. Finally, I must commend the team who created this app, particularly the inventor, who provides very timely personal support for any technical issues. The inventor is a very experienced piano teacher, and this shows when using the app. It is truly high-quality and though more expensive than other piano apps it is worth the cost, and much more convenient and less expensive than in-person piano lessons (which it is not intended to replace). I plan on using this to become proficient enough to become worth taking the more expensive lessons.
