### 5/5 — Great app!

*2013-07-09, version 1.2*

This app entertains my kids for hours! Plus I don't have to run to staples every week to buy more paper for them to draw on. Double win,

### 5/5 — Fantastic for Kids!

*2013-07-09, version 1.2*

I recently purchased this app for my four year old daughter, whom loves it! Great work Building Blocks Media! I look forward to what you will produce next for early childhood development.

### 5/5 — So cute!

*2013-07-09, version 1.2*

My kids love this. They love hanging their art in the gallery.

### 5/5 — Kid Approved!

*2013-06-27, version 1.2*

My 5-year old daughter loves this app! I personally enjoy getting paintings from her emailed to me at work. She's gotten quite good. Thanks for the app!

### 5/5 — Adorable interactive app

*2013-04-26, version 1.1*

I just love the finger painting concept behind this app. Been needing that in my life. Pairing that with the musical characters is pretty genius and makes for endless hours of educational entertainment for the little ones (maybe myself as well). Overall great app, easy to use, love being able to text the final products (paintings) and graphics are really well done in sync with the underwater musical chimes. Love it all! Want more apps from building blocks media!!!

### 5/5 — a fun and educational app!

*2013-03-30, version 1.1*

This is a great, easy to use app that allows young children to create both visual art and music. As an educator, I especially love the lesson plans that align to the Common Core standards! They offer activity ideas for using the app with children of all levels to help develop not only creativity, but also math and literacy skills.

### 5/5 — Great app for learning!

*2013-03-28, version 1.1*

The apps interface is intuitive and fun. Easy for kids to pickup and start learning!

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2013-03-25, version 1.1*

Musical paint is an amazing app!! Building Blocks Media created an innovative and creative app that is very educational for kids but fun for all ages! The characters are entertaining and the music is catchy - definitely keeps kids engaged! Well done!

### 5/5 — No mess!

*2013-03-24, version 1.1*

I am a single dad and I love encouraging my kids to make art, but it often means a huge mess. We don't mind the mess when there's time to clean up, but this app is a nice way for them to express themselves creatively when we are short on time or on the go. And I like that they can make 100 paintings and I still have paper left in my printer!

Another cool thing: my daughter asked if she could "play the double bass like the octopus." I love that she's inspired to play musical instruments.

### 5/5 — Well thought-out

*2013-03-22, version 1.1*

Writing educational software is really tricky… you have to strike a lot of balances, and you have a couple of very picky and fickle audiences (small children and teachers!) This app seems to balance many things quite well. Simple clear and engaging graphics, soft ambient sound effects, the transition animations that explain and lead the student to the painting area are helpful but don't get in the way, mostly intuitive to use, and a smirky-fun idea to couple drawing colors with instruments and scales. Of course, being an ex-clarinet player, I'd have preferred a less "goofy" sound for the clarinet example :-)

For those who remember the "old" children's software, this feels like a really polished merging of "KidPix" and "Putt Putt". I could envision many spinoff ideas/apps from this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Was a favorite of my daughters

*2020-01-09, version 2.7.6*

Needs another fix. It crashes when you click on the canvas to make a new picture.

### 1/5 — Crash crash crash

*2017-12-28, version 2.5.7*

This is one of the most unreliable apps I have, and it annoys my daughter entirely. It crashes, or opens up menus that aren’t even on the screen so the only way to get back to the game is to force quit, over and over and over.

### 2/5 — Music Paint

*2015-08-28, version 2.0*

My grandson loves this app. He plays it constantly, but it has just stopped working! He is so upset.

### 2/5 — What happened?

*2015-08-26, version 2.0*

Ugh my daughter loved this app but the past few days it won't allow her to paint. I've done all the tips it says (restarting it, deleting other apps and reinstalling it) and nothing works. Kinda disappointed now.

### 3/5 — Paint won't work

*2016-01-20, version 2.0.9*

My son used this app the first day and it worked perfectly but he has tried using it the last couple of days and the paint will not work. The audio from the characters work perfectly and he can click on finished to save or trash his artwork he can browse around just fine but he can't draw. It's a shame because he really enjoyed drawing with it before.

### 3/5 — Not working since newest update

*2015-08-23, version 2.0*

My 5 year old loved this app, but a few days ago, we updated the app and now it won't allow us to paint. I've tried restarting phone and reinstalling app, but no luck. :(

### 3/5 — Buggy

*2013-07-19, version 1.2*

Locked up in the first five minutes of playing. Had to delete and reinstall. The practice writing section is deceiving, too, as its only accessible to sign your painting. Was actually hoping my kids could practice their writing.

### 4/5 — Granddaughter enjoyed this!

*2016-01-02, version 2.0.9*

Granddaughter was here and explored the site. She is 5 and loved saving her art and seeing it in the art gallery.

### 4/5 — OK. Suggestions...

*2015-02-23, version 1.61*

As is, limited in age range interest. Could increase enjoyment & age span if you added:
1. An eraser for older kids who want to improve their work-- or is that what the white paint is for? If so, it's rather tedious to erase in pencil line thinness. You need something wider.
2. A playback for the finished painting. You know, either choose a left to right playback or "as drawn" so that it plays the sequence of the strokes as they were made.
3. Thick and thin strokes. Or, did I miss that?

Otherwise, it's an ok app.

### 4/5 — Musical Paint

*2013-06-02, version 1.1*

Musical Paint is a simple app which has some common cores lessons found in the adult section. The user has options found under the question mark to explore outside, go into the museum or paint. Painting on the easel provides a multi sensory experience and children will enjoy writing their name, or drawing pictures. The length of their stroke controls the beat, or length of time each note is played. Six different colors of paint provide the tones of the different instruments featured. The grown up section provides app instructions, lesson plans, tech support and developer information. A fun app for kids.

### 5/5 — Help

*2016-02-04, version 2.0.9*

My grand daughter loves this app and has played it for years. Today it needs an update, but I keep getting the message that it is not compatible with this iPad. ☹ I looked at the iOS...mine is 9. What happened?

### 5/5 — Great for any little ones

*2016-01-31, version 2.0.9*

Used it for my nephew when he was one to distract him and he loved the sounds now that he is two he plays with it joyfully and you can see he is trying to remember why he knows the music and sounds lol . When he is older I'm sure he will paint with it instead of just scribble and make music but it had a positive effect on learning I think.

### 5/5 — Musical Paint is a go-to choice

*2015-12-29, version 2.0.9*

We've had Musical Paint for about 2 years and it is still a top choice by my children, now 6 1/2 and 4.

### 5/5 — Fabulous

*2013-09-30, version 1.3*

Can play with this app for hours with all ages. Love the musical notes as you paint with different colors. Fun way for my little one to learn letters of alphabet.

### 5/5 — We LOVE IT!!!

*2013-07-24, version 1.2*

Beautiful graphics and an app that provides constant reinforcement to children to be creative. Well done!
