### 2/5 — Not user friendly

*2026-08-01, version 7.01*

After using this software for about a year and a half in our pool house in our Landscape speakers, I have to say that it’s very frustrating to try and use this program. It’s very hard to find the volume control or get back to certain parts of the program. Every time I use it I have to try and figure out stuff for about 10 or 15 minutes and it’s very frustrating.. You folks should spend some time having somebody go through this and try to use it. That’s not very familiar with it and see how difficult it is to figure things out.. Then you should revamp it and make it much more user-friendly.

### 3/5 — Very Difficult to Figure Out

*2026-07-31, version 7.01*

I love the A8A receiver and nothing but frustration from the app! Sad

### 2/5 — Was working great but now

*2026-07-30, version 7.01*

With 7.01 update, super buggy now! Slow to turn AVR on. Other buggy stuff.

### 4/5 — Yamaha Music Cast App

*2026-07-29, version 7.01*

Would give 5 stars if I could still control volume on iPhone before the last firmware update. Loved using my iPhone volume buttons , so easy and convenient…

### 2/5 — Confusing interface

*2026-07-28, version 7.01*

It’s nice to have an app to use the receiver but the software end of this is definitely not up to standards very confusing to use and not intuitive at all

### 2/5 — The ads they are putting on here like are crashing the app ie pandora.

*2026-07-28, version 7.01*

Actually good app but I have noticed that ads kill the continuous play you have to reset the whole thing. Lose the ads. Or fix your issues these links like pandora etc are through your app as well.

### 3/5 — Quirky and unreliable

*2026-07-28, version 7.01*

When it works, it's great. When it doesn't, you are in silence. The app and the actual unit have to be plugged in and then unplugged several times. My local sound guy still pushes this, but I have lost faith.

### 4/5 — Kinda slow to establish a connection with a ethernet.

*2026-07-13, version 7.01*

It works well.

### 3/5 — Update

*2026-07-10, version 7.01*

Took away the access to control volume through iPad/iPhone side controls. Would be nice to have this back. Don’t understand why it was removed.

### 3/5 — Update not the best

*2026-07-04, version 7.00*

Losing the ability to control using the iPhone volume sidebar takes away a wonderfully simple function. Restore that.

### 3/5 — Works well most of the time

*2026-06-23, version 7.00*

It works well i'd say 75% of the time. other times it just quits. needs full reset of all speakers. it can be annoying.

### 3/5 — Too Complicated

*2026-06-11, version 7.00*

In today’s day and age things just don’t have to be this complicated especially if you are just trying to listen to music with an AV Receiver.

### 2/5 — Does what it needs to, UX is awful

*2026-06-08, version 7.00*

It is workable, but there are too many small issues with the Ux for me to start describing them.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Difficult

*2026-08-01, version 7.01*

It is so freaking difficult to choose between sources. I can’t even play from my iPhone to my stereo. This whole thing sucks.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-07-29, version 7.01*

App connection to receiver continually drops. Interface is complicated and not intuitive.

### 1/5 — WTF

*2026-07-22, version 7.01*

Impossible setup. Instructions are useless. Cannot get BT to even light up. WiFi lights but no BT
Aaaaerrrgghhh

### 1/5 — You never know

*2026-07-08, version 7.01*

Very unreliable software. You never know what’s going to happen. Rooms disappear, things disconnect and massive random problems over 5 years. I have to much money in Yamaha to change.

### 1/5 — Why remove Tidal Service

*2026-07-06, version 7.01*

Tidal direct connection was removed , why???

### 1/5 — Never lets me play the record

*2026-07-01, version 7.00*

Unintiutive as to how to play a record vinyl

### 1/5 — Complete garbage

*2026-06-20, version 7.00*

I have a Yamaha 1080 hard wired and read Musiccast rear surround speakers. This buggy, poorly coded app makes it a PITA to get the speakers connected. Many retries with failed connection to my WiFi with valid creds. Then one day they just randomly disconnect and I have to repeat the entire PITA process. I will never buy another Yamaha product again.

### 1/5 — Used to love it

*2026-06-11, version 7.00*

While I never loved having to use the TV as a monitor to set up the system and finding what you wanted in those settings didn’t seem intuitive I muddled through. Now Not sure why Yamaha dropped the Alexa skill. It was great to control music throughout the house with your voice. Hands dirty from cooking? Tell Alexa to turn up down off on skip etc.
now nope skill has been discontinued. Might need to find different brand stereo head unit.

### 1/5 — Really Poor WiFi/airplay implementation

*2026-06-11, version 7.00*

Changed my wireless router and unfortunately had to change the SSID (it did work decently before). Now every time I stop listening to music musiccast looses connection to the unit. I have to reconnect by going through add a new device. It sucks. New WAP is an eeros mesh system and speed test shows >25Mbs and the Yamaha is 15 feet from the WAP. No problem with any other wireless devices.

### 1/5 — It’s great when it works

*2026-06-11, version 7.00*

Streaming cuts in and out randomly. My WiFi signal is extremely strong. I added a larger antenna to the receiver and still I’m having problems. I can connect up a Sonos speaker in the same location and have no problems. I’ve reached out to Yamaha tech support and the only advice they had is to send the unit in and pay for diagnostics. I should have just spent the money on a Sonos or blue sound. I’m pretty sure the issues are software related - the MusicCast controller/app is outdated and glitchy.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — ❤️MusicCast !!!

*2026-07-31, version 7.01*

Being able to play my Klipsch speakers outdoors is awesome !! I’ve had this system now for over 10 years and still lovin’ it !!!!

### 5/5 — Stable and easy

*2026-07-30, version 7.01*

Love the software. Stable. Easy. Excellent wireless sound!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2026-07-26, version 7.01*

Love my ability to stream music through my Yamaha receiver wherever I sit!

### 5/5 — solid

*2026-07-22, version 7.01*

Solid, stable app that works. I use it daily to control my audio setup and it’s reliable with no crashes. responsive.

The external service interfaces are a bit clunky, but that’s working third-party APIs. box of chocolates.

does what it’s supposed to do without drama. Happy with it.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-06-29, version 7.00*

Make my life easy

### 5/5 — Love minus one flaw

*2026-06-20, version 7.00*

Often when I open the app and I already have music playing, the volume will sink down to inaudible. I’m often going into the app to raise the volume so this is double infuriating. Otherwise it’s pretty great.

### 5/5 — Sound system

*2026-06-15, version 7.00*

So easy to use. Find Music Cast an easier system and superior to Sonos.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-06-03, version 6.20*

Great to be able to control my receiver blue tooth and small portable speakers remotely.

### 5/5 — Perfection

*2026-05-31, version 6.20*

Easy to use. Works perfectly. Eliminates the hassle of adding a streamer. I use the receiver for an outdoor television, switching between inputs and controlling is simple and very responsive.

### 5/5 — Great system

*2026-05-30, version 6.20*

Love our music cast at our home. We installed a complete rack and sound threw out the house media room, livingroom, pool, master bedroom, master bathroom, garage, and shop. My only request is that they make more of the the small controllers that you add an amp to… bummer that they stopped… awesome product though!
