### 4/5 — Great music player

*2026-08-15*

Used this for years - like the layout and deals with my 3500 tracks on USB stick really well. Wav. Files so high quality.

### 4/5 — Super, aber noch Potenzial

*2026-07-11*

Ansonsten wirklich toll!

### 3/5 — Can’t EQ with gapless playback

*2026-05-30, version 8.17*

I see that other players are able to EQ and maintain gapless playback. Any plans to address that in this player? It’s a real bummer for albums that aren’t meant to have silent gaps between tracks.

### 4/5 — Stuck on Apple Car play

*2026-03-15*

Very good apps but after latest update get stuck on Apple car play. Please fix.

### 2/5 — Je revois mon avis en bien, mais !

*2026-02-04*

8 mois plus tard, rien n'a évolué... 🤬

**Developer response:** Thank you for your update! I have made a note in our system about play lists. If you have any questions then please email support@stratospherix.com and we will be pleased to help.

### 2/5 — Not using tags correctly

*2026-01-14, version 8.12*

Why wouldn’t you not take the album name from the file tag!? To go even further, the first folder under the artist folder is usually the album name, which you ignore and instead take the subfolder as the album name. So most of my albums show up in the app with the name “Disc 01”. Just dumb coding. Use the tags for their purpose.

### 4/5 — Best Player for large music library

*2026-01-10, version 8.12*

So glad to find this app! After getting rid of Sonos speakers that didn’t support Airplay, switching to Apple speakers then being upset at passing Apple’s track limit in my library I had no way to play it from my NAS. While looking into purchasing an expensive device to interface with my library I came upon this. Does exactly what I want, sure not all album covers show but at last I can listen to music I own that isn’t on Apple Music! And no track limit so I can buy and add more!

### 5/5 — Richtig schnell!

*2026-01-05*

Kein Abo, nix monatlich, kein Abzockmodell. Ich bin Mega begeistert. Danke danke danke!!!

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2025-11-09, version 8.12*

No other app comes close for streaming from my music library which is stored on a WD Mycloud device.

### 5/5 — Freedom

*2025-10-22, version 8.12*

People looking for the old Winamp, unplugged experience. Get an iPhone case that allows a microSD insert … find your old MPs … and you save $10 a month on Spotify

### 3/5 — Works as intended

*2025-09-26*

This app scanned my music library really quick. I have 50000+ songs in folders and sub folders on an smb share (I.e organized) and not only did it find all of them it did so much faster than I thought possible on an iOS device. I’m just not a fan of the look of it but it’s gonna have to do because so far it’s the only one that did do so.

### 2/5 — Yeah…but no.

*2025-09-25, version 8.11*

I really want to love this app. Streaming directly from iCloud Drive is a fantastic feature as I have about 5TB of music stored there. However the UI is horrid. Why can’t I tap on a song and then just hear the rest of the album? The whole “play this”, “queue up” option is just stupid. Larger text would be nice. The player is just strange…the artwork all the way at the bottom with all of that wasted space up top?

### 3/5 — Painful to use, but works well over VPN.

*2025-09-23, version 8.11*

I had recently set up a Raspberry Pi NAS for my home and have been looking for a mobile app that would allow me to stream my music when outside the home. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like MusicStreamer will do this without backend server support, but with some creative Docker use I was able to set up a tunneling network that allows me to play my media anywhere I have a connection to the Internet. MusicStreamer handles this extremely well.

However, the one thing that bothers me about the app is that everything is a manual action. Clicking a song from an album to play will only play that song; the app won’t roll over to the next song on the album unless I specifically put all of the songs into the play queue through one of four different methods. I have no idea why this was the design decision; I’ve never encountered such a cumbersome interaction in any other music player I’ve ever used.

### 5/5 — great

*2025-07-07, version 8.9*

Works great with my Apple Airport router & NAS.
Proper and fast indexing where other apps fail or come to a crawl.
(And just a hint in case anyone has a problem with SMB NAS, hdd's need names and names can't e.g. have spaces ;-) )

### 5/5 — Simple, effective, perfect 👌

*2025-06-20, version 8.9*

This app is perfect for my set up with a home music server. I can listen to all my music when at home and download any tunes I want to listen to on the go.

It’s simple to use and one the apps I constantly use.

Just perfect 👌👌

### 5/5 — Still using years later in 2025

*2025-06-11, version 8.9*

Still use this app as nothing that delivers what I need is available on the usual platforms.
I would like a connection to WDMyCloud via web or their app rather than just via the home network. Also the ability to rename the custom equalisers (currently ABC) would be great as I can never recall which device I set it up for.
But being able to easily get my own music on my phone still makes this app something I can’t do without.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2025-03-20, version 8.9*

Brilliant app. I can drive from Brisbane to a town 200 k away without loss of connection to my modem/ router. Highly commended.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2026-03-16, version 8.16*

Everytime I choose to play all albums now it crashes. That’s all I paid the app for. And it doesn’t do it Free one doesn’t crash

### 1/5 — Ok for connecting to M2 Air, but only stores music on iPhone not external drives

*2024-12-31, version 8.7*

I was looking for a way to put my music on an external drive for my iPhone.
Elsewhere it was suggested that I needed an apple certified drive, which I bought, the app that came with it only backs up your phone.
I bought this app, it connects to my M2 Air brilliantly and plays music from the Air through my phone, why anyone would wish to do that I have no idea.
You can also download music to play later.
This app does not recognise the music library or the music on my JD Drive, alternately the phone does not recognise a generic USB drive even when formatted for Mac, but neither does this app
So a waste of money

### 1/5 — iPad Air 4

*2024-06-09*

### 1/5 — This is *not* the app for you if your songs have long file names and no cover art

*2024-04-24, version 8.1*

Most of the things I want to listen to on my iPhone, especially in playlists, are tracks I recorded myself. They don't have cover art, and they have lonnnng file names that start the same. For example, "My friend's concert recorded at home on May 4th part 1.flac" and "My friend's concert recorded at home on May 4th part 2.flac". The detailed information about each track is important, and really can't be omitted.

FileBrowser Pro, which I adore, handles long file names by rapidly scrolling them side to side so you can see the end of the file name. But it doesn't let you create play lists or have an equalizer. Clearly sound fidelity is important to me, or I wouldn't be recording the tracks in lossless FLAC.

I was very excited when I read that Stratospherix also makes a music app. However, MusicStreamer has unmoving file names and no portrait mode, so there's no way to tell them apart on a small iPhone screen. There are also no indicators in the screen about how they're sorted (by date, filename, etc.) so you just can't tell them apart in the app's UI.

My workaround was to create playlists in VLC (I refuse to use iTunes) and one in MusicStreamer, then alter the ones from VLC so they'll play in MusicStreamer. But you'd better make sure that all of the tracks are in the order you want, because if you need to change them in MusicStreamer, you're back to the problem of not being able to tell which one's which in the UI. It's madness.

Another big downside... the user guides were clearly written by the marketing department, and contain very little step by step info, and only for functions that are intuitively obvious anyway. If you want to use it in a way that most people don't, you'll get to figure it out for yourself. Or you can go to the user community on X (formerly Twitter, no thanks, I left that platform when it started undergoing its radical transformation).

I'll probably keep using it because FileBrowser Pro is absolutely perfect, except for the lack of playlists and real audio file handling. MusicStreamer integrates with it beautifully.

Or, I may give up and go back to using VLC. The only reason I stopped using VLC in the first place is because in the iOS version, connecting to Windows vs. Linux network shares is complicated and a matter of trial and error. With almost 27,000 audio tracks, there's no way I'm downloading them all to my iPhone. Setting up FileBrowser Pro and MusicStreamer network share connections is super quick and easy.

Better yet, I'll find a real music app that handles high quality audio files, long file names, various types of network shares, and does not depend on thumbnails for you to tell the files apart. Wish me luck!🤞🍀🙏

*2023-12-18*

### 1/5 — Unfortunately doesn’t do what I need

*2022-12-09, version 7.3*

Even after knowing it can’t do it I still can’t work out from the description whether it can or can’t stream FLAC Internet Radio

It can’t. It can only search for computers or storage devices on your home network. I need to stream FLAC Internet Radio and send it to my Marantz via AirPlay - seems a basic requirement to me

### 1/5 — Pas abouti

*2022-06-21*

### 1/5 — Will not resolve for servers behind a reverse proxy

*2022-04-08, version 6.8*

This doesn’t support reverse Proxies for the server. My server is in a container on a virtualization server that serves my my music via a reverse proxy. The program tries to resolve the ip instead of the subdomain associated with the container. Therefore the purchase is pointless.

### 1/5 — Music Streamer is no longer stable and reliable product.

*2021-08-12*

Don’t buy it! Use the File Browser application instead.

The music streaming product used to be so much more reliable, but recent updates has made it unstable. I find I’m using the File Browser product instead, as it seems to be more reliable. The Streamer just stops and looses its connection to the server and I have to keep reopening it, and the server reconnects automatically, but I have to keep hitting the play button.

I have found the same companies File browser products and I have found that I can connect to my server and listen for hours and hours without an issue.

I’m disappointed in the current Music Streamer Product and can no longer recommend it to others. The File Browser has less bells and whistles, but is much more stable and reliable. Same company, go figure!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Really impressed

*2026-07-09, version 8.18*

The interface works in a slightly different way to how I expected, but stick with it. It really does everything you need for Nas / local music.

### 5/5 — The Best

*2026-07-04, version 8.18*

Possibly the best FLAC streaming app I have ever encountered. 5 Stars.

### 5/5 — The one you need

*2026-06-27*

Just simply works great at home. No fuss. This is how you design a good app. Ideas: Option to “add and shuffle to play queue” artist or album would be nice. A watch app for offline runs would also be swell!

### 5/5 — Can stream my pc music easily

*2026-06-19, version 8.17*

Really good for my use case, pretty albums too

Update lock screen pauses playback on iPad

### 5/5 — The best - hands down!

*2026-06-09, version 8.17*

I got tired of trying to get Apple’s Music app to play music (ALAC) stored on my NAS. The Mac was fine, but getting it to stream from my iPhone was flaky at best. Having looked at several apps that could handle streaming from a NAS, I chanced upon MusicStreamer and haven’t looked back. It has a well-thought out interface, is feature rich but this doesn’t get in the way of using the app. A huge plus is being able to point the app to my local NAS, iCloud storage, downloaded storage or from a USB. My music library, now FLAC, works well, as do the meta tags and album covers. MusicStreamer is a great solution to a long running problem of how to stream my music library at home or on the move.

### 5/5 — Airplay has stoped working

*2026-05-24, version 8.17*

After iOS update the AirPlay functionality has stopped working

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-04-28*

My favourite app by far! A few glitches in the latest version related to editing the playlist which I expect will be fixed in the next revision.

### 5/5 — Perfect for My Use

*2026-03-12, version 8.16*

I have a NAS that holds my extensive music library across multiple genres, decades, and artists. MusicStreamer connects seamlessly to my NAS and stays connected. I can connect to my Yamaha amp, my Sonos speakers, even my TV. I can play across those devices all together or one at a time. I get no drops, no static, no issues in playback. I play an album start to finish or I can create playlists of my favorites tunes. I can shuffle or repeat play. All my cover art is shown as stored. Oh, did I mention support? They have amazing support and respect my specific needs. Absolutely love this app for in home streaming from my NAS. Totally recommend it!

### 5/5 — Spot on!

*2026-02-18*

When they say "Rediscover your music!" they are not wrong! Fantastic app! Keep up the excellent work! Software *can* be well done.

### 5/5 — Provides great functionality with great support

*2026-01-30, version 8.13*

TL/DR: I want to be able to play my music I’ve ripped to my NAS when I’m away from home. This provides that functionality. Not perfect (yet) but really good, with great support.

I’d tried various other apps but they were unable to scan more than ~5 albums before giving up and even then scanning was very slow (solution: scan library on desktop then transfer to device 😬). I have a few hundred albums.

I bought MediaStreamer, configured it to read my library and started a scan (entire library 5-10 mins?).
The albums were shown in a different order from my Sonos environment (the less said about Sonos the better!) which threw me initially, so I contacted support and after a couple of exchanges, I had an explanation and a solution. Currently the app doesn’t use (any?) embedded metadata in the files for the sorting/naming but the developers are working on that. TBH, this isn’t a problem for me now I know how it works - a few legacy inconsistencies in my library, mainly around my classical music albums.

My environment is a little different to a lot of users I think - I use Tailscale rather than Synology quickconnect for remote access - but that’s manageable.

This app provides me with access to my music remotely, it’s very usable and I’m confident it’ll continue to improve. Give it a go.

Update: new version of the app now does use file metadata so now my albums are in the order I was expecting. Really pleased, upgraded rating (4->5).
