## What is MusicTools?

No spare hand to turn the page while you're playing? MusicTools turns it for you.

KEY FEATURES

■ PDFs, photos and scans
Import PDF sheet music, or make a score from photos of its pages or a camera scan, straightened by their corners and put in order. A PDF from another app opens straight in MusicTools. Folders, search and your recent songs keep the library in order.

■ Full-screen reading
A song's score fills the screen, the white margins trimmed so the notes come out larger. Tap the sides or swipe to turn the page, or use a Bluetooth page-turn pedal; tap the middle for the controls. On an iPad in landscape two pages sit side by side, every song opens where you left it, and the screen stays on while you read.

■ Setlists
Songs in the order you play them, a practice routine or a concert program: turn past the last page and the next song opens.

■ It reads the bars and repeats for you
When you import a score, MusicTools finds the bars on every page and reads repeat signs and 1st and 2nd endings, so the playing order is ready. It reads cleanly printed scores best; any line it can't read, you add in the Song Form editor.

■ Auto page turn: hands-free practice
After a count-in at the song's own meter and tempo, each page turns the moment its last bar ends, so your hands never leave the instrument. The bar you're playing is marked on the score, filling beat by beat, and the seek bar takes you back to any bar. Or choose Simple: the metronome plays over the score while you turn the pages.

■ Repeats, D.C. and tempo changes as written
In the Song Form editor, mark repeat signs, endings, D.C., D.S., Coda and Fine on their bars and the playing order follows. Mark tempo and meter changes, rit. and accel., fermatas and pickups too: the metronome and the page turns follow them all.

■ Write on your sheet music
Pen, highlighter, eraser and text, plus one-tap stamps for fingerings, dynamics, accidentals and more, with undo and redo. With an Apple Pencil, the pencil draws and your finger turns pages. Your original PDF stays untouched.

■ Arrange, share and print
Reorder, turn, remove or add pages, or split some off as a new song; your notes follow their pages. Share or print the PDF with your notes.

■ Play along
Attach an audio file or a recording to a song and play it while you read: slower without changing the pitch, or looped from A to B.

■ Record your practice
One tap records your practice. Recording carries on in other apps or with the screen off, and a take cut short by the app closing comes back. Folders, favorites, search and slower playback.

■ Hum to MIDI (experimental)
Hum a melody and get its notes as a MIDI file for your DAW or notation app. Works best with one voice, one note at a time.

■ A precise metronome, and a tuner
- Quarter, eighth, triplet and 16th clicks, swing and shuffle
- Odd meters grouped the way you count them (7/8 as 3+2+2)
- Enter the tempo as the score gives it (dotted quarter = 60), or tap it in
- Per-beat high, low or silent clicks; click, bell, wood and beep sounds
- A tuner beside it: the nearest note and how many cents off, with A anywhere from 415 to 466 Hz

■ Backup
Your scores, notes, Song Forms and setlists in one file, to keep safe or restore on a new device.

■ Fully offline, no data collected
No account, no internet connection required. Sheet reading and transcription run on your device; the microphone is used only to record and for the tuner, and the camera only to scan a score. Nothing leaves your device unless you share, print or back it up yourself, and there are no ads.

WHO IT'S FOR
- Wind and string players who don't have a free hand to turn pages
- Anyone moving a pile of paper scores onto a tablet
- Players with a practice routine or a concert program to keep in order
- Anyone drilling a piece at a strict tempo, or recording practice to listen back

Best experienced on iPad.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-10-30

New
- Several songs at once: Select in the Library picks songs to move to a folder, add to a setlist or delete together. The check on a folder's row picks every song in it.
- Share a score: Share PDF in a song's ... menu sends it to a friend or another app, with or without your notes.
- Select and move your notes: in the sheet editor, the Select tool picks notes you draw a loop round, or the one you tap, to drag them somewhere else or delete them.

Changed
- Deleting asks first: scanned pages, play-along tracks, recordings and more.
- Library folders sit closer together, so more fit on the screen, and a folder you collapse stays collapsed the next time you open the app.
- Apple Pencil on the page turns on Pencil only: a finger moves the page instead of writing.
- Scores made from photos or scans are straightened by their staves, and every page comes out the same size.
- Pages can take out several pages at once.

Fixed
- A hand resting on the screen while writing with Apple Pencil left dots.
- Add Play-Along Track did nothing on iPhone and iPad.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-10-28

MusicTools is now a sheet music app.

New
- The viewer: tap a song and its score fills the screen, the margins trimmed so the notes come out larger. Tap the middle to show or hide the controls, tap the sides or swipe to turn the page, and every song opens where you left it.
- Practice: choose Simple (the metronome over the score) or Auto page turn (pages turn in time). A song's tempo, meter and clicks are set from the metronome in the viewer.
- Setlists: songs in the order you play them, a practice routine or a concert program. Turn past the last page and the next song opens.
- Scores from photos and scans: Add Sheet takes a PDF, photos of the pages or a camera scan. Photos are straightened by their corners and put in order.
- Open PDFs from other apps: Files, Mail or Safari can open a PDF straight in MusicTools.
- Pages: reorder, turn, remove or add pages, or make some of them a song of their own. Notes and the Song Form follow their pages.
- Page-turn pedals: a Bluetooth pedal turns the pages, and starts and pauses Auto page turn.
- Search and recent songs in the library, and a backup you can restore on a new device.
- Stamps in the sheet editor: fingerings, dynamics, accidentals and more in one tap.
- A tuner in the Metronome tab, with A anywhere from 415 to 466 Hz.
- Play along: attach an audio file or a recording to a song, slow it down or loop it from A to B.

Changed
- The song setup screen is gone: its settings are in the viewer now. The app opens on the Library tab.

Fixed
- The first few clicks could come out bunched together when the metronome started.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-21

New in 1.1.0
• The Song Form editor replaces the step list: line the bars up on the score, mark them, and the playing order and timing are worked out for you
• Tempo and meter changes, rit. and accel., fermatas held by the beat, pickups
• The bar being played is marked on the score in practice
• Count-in at the song's own meter and tempo instead of 3-2-1
• Simple practice: tap or swipe to turn pages, and a seek bar for pages
• The screen stays on while the metronome or practice plays, and both stop when you leave the app
• Recording and playback carry on with the screen locked or in another app
• A recording cut short by the app closing comes back
• Unplugging headphones stops playback, the metronome and practice

Please check

Song Form
1. A song's screen, Song Form → Edit Song Form (Set up Song Form the first time): the bars are numbered on the score. In the Bars tab, touching the score with no tool picked changes nothing, and Add bar, Remove bar, Add line, Move line and Delete line work
2. In the Marks tab, pick bars and add |:, :|, 1. 2., D.S., To Coda and Coda: they show on the score, and Play order (the list button at the top right; the right-hand panel on an iPad) changes to match
3. A piece that starts with a pickup: first bar → Short bar → Pickup, and the bar numbers start at 0, and the count-in stops just before the pickup
4. Put a Tempo or a Meter on a bar and drag across a few bars for a rit., then practice: the metronome takes the new tempo or meter from that bar, and slows through the rit. as the tempo on the status line drops
5. Add a Fermata and pick +3: in practice the bar goes on for three more beats (three more clicks)
6. A song set up with the old step list in an earlier version plays as before, and Edit Song Form asks first

Practice
7. A Song Form song, Start Practice → Start: the number counts down with the clicks (4-3-2-1 in 4/4) and the music starts on the beat after 1. With the metronome off, the number counts down silently
8. The box on the bar being played fills beat by beat, and the button at the top right turns it off and on. On an iPad in landscape it shows on the right page of the two
9. Pause → Start: after the count-in it carries on from the top of the bar it stopped in. Tapping the screen during the count-in cancels it
10. A Simple song, Start Practice: a tap on the left or right of the screen, or a sideways swipe, turns one page. The seek bar's page number follows your finger, and the sheet goes there when you let go
11. With the metronome or Song Form practice running, the screen stays on past the auto-lock time. Pulling Control Center down and back up doesn't stop the metronome
12. Go to the home screen with the metronome running and come back: it has stopped, with no burst of clicks. After a long while in another app, Start still begins with evenly spaced clicks

Recordings
13. Start recording, lock the screen or switch to another app, come back a few minutes later: it's still recording, and after Done it plays back with no gap
14. A call or another app's sound during recording: it stops with "The first … is saved.", and Resume adds on to the same recording
15. Play a recording and lock the screen: it keeps playing, and play/pause, the 15-second skips and the position bar work on the lock screen and in Control Center
16. Unplug headphones while a recording plays: it stops at once, and so do the metronome and Song Form practice. The same when a Bluetooth headset disconnects
17. While recording, swipe MusicTools away in the app switcher, open it again and go to Recordings: the recording is there, same name and folder, up to the moment it was closed
