### 5/5 — One of the best games I’ve played!

*2021-05-15, version 1.81*

I love almost everything about this game. The look of it and the music is fantastic. The story is excellent. The pace of the game is perfect. I never once wondered around confused on what to do, well after I figured out how to garden, It was clear. Which I love. Literally the only thing that was annoying at times was trying to gather seeds. Sometimes I would try to pick it up and walk by it like 5 times back and forth. Other than that it was a great game to play and I was sad when it was over but the ending was on point. Thank you developers for this wonderful game. You did amazing.

### 5/5 — Such a beautiful game

*2021-02-05, version 1.8*

I loved everything about this game: the story, the landscapes, the sounds and music, the animations... just everything! I didn’t want it to end. I’ll be looking forward to other games by the creators. Congratulations to the whole crew that worked on it.
The only thing I got annoyed at was that it was a bit tough to click on some of the speech bubbles, I had to walk by and quickly click on the bubble but it would take me a while to finally click on it. That’s the negative which is not that bad. I highly recommend this game to everyone!

### 5/5 — Beautiful

*2021-01-06, version 1.8*

I love everything about this game. The story, the art, the characters, the gameplay etc. It’s one of those games that you can still enjoy even if you’ve finished it before. There are so many plants in the game I haven’t collected every seed yet, but the gardening is so enchanting and magical and the exploration is such a nice experience even if I have to go back and forth. I would love to live in Mutazione if it were real. A small but friendly community with lush flora and interesting fauna as far as the eye can see. I love how they design the animals as well. It’s such a small detail but it really helps tie the atmosphere together.

### 5/5 — Fun Game, Great Story, Amazing Characters

*2020-12-25, version 1.8*

Okay this game is amazing. It really managed to find that sweet spot where it’s both a fun story and a great game to play, so you never feel like your just reading a book with occasional tapping, but you also don’t feel like the story is just put on the sidelines. The main character is fun to play and she feels like a real and genuine person, and what’s extra impressive is she actually feels like someone who is a teenager rather than a bunch of Hollywood cliches of what teenagers are like turned into a character. I never found myself feeling like she could never be an actual person. The story is super fun, and I love how they manage to have an overarching main story, and then a more wholesome soap opera story that still feels just as important as the main one. The characters are super fun and easy to become attached to, so you get quite invested in the story. The small side story with the red dots was also cute and it was always a little extra fun to see what they were up to. The songs were also really catchy, even when they where just gibberish. This was a great game, I’d totally recommend it to friends and I would really recommend giving it a play through!

### 5/5 — Amazing game

*2020-12-20, version 1.8*

This game was amazing. It had a heartwarming, touching story with elements of darkness, hope, and resolution. The sound and graphics were very calming/shaped my mood very well, and I loved Miu’s punk rock! I grew to love the characters and story very much, and I will admit I cried quite a few times while hearing the pain many characters had to go through. Though sometimes trying to harvest plant seeds was buggy, overall the experience of the game, through the storytelling and atmosphere, was an amazing one. I would strongly recommend to anyone who needs a heartwarming story in their life

### 5/5 — The BEST

*2020-12-07, version 1.8*

Okay, I've never have written a review for any game ever in my life. I purchased Apple Arcade because this game looked interesting. All I have to say, is that the story line of this game is beautiful. At first I didn't really get it, but it completely game together at the end. I stayed up to finish the game until 3am because I couldn't stop playing it. GENIUS. huge credits to anyone who had any take in making this game. I truly truly wish for another game to play by the creators. The only thing I would suggest is to.... MAKE ANOTHER GAME 😂 honestly this was so much fun to play. Game was easy to get and fun. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Wonderful, beautiful game w/ variety

*2020-12-03, version 1.8*

This one's different -- in such a good way. There's a clear story with engaging characters; searching for things and building things and choosing dialogue. I've not seen all of these various components together in one game. It was great! Also this game is very beautiful both visually and musically. I enjoyed talking my time to play which is unusual for me -- I actually finished it (rare) and was sad to have completed it. It was lovely, interesting and one can be creative in garden building -- which i really enjoyed. It's a unique sort of game and that's too bad because I'd like to play others like it. I noticed a tiny bug in the garden controls: I couldn't do the same action twice in a row -- the second time deselected. Barely noticed -- Highly recommended. Calm. Enjoy.

### 5/5 — So Human it Hurts

*2020-10-22, version 1.8*

I was initially unsure about this game, but it reeled me in so quickly with its beautiful music, wonderful atmosphere, and characters who’s lives feel richer than you could really hope to fully explore. The amount of times I gasped and grabbed my boyfriends arm in bed, shaking him to tell him about the drama that just happened chapter per chapter is probably a bit more embarrassing than I’d care to share.

It feels lived in. It feels loved. Amazing animation and work; thank you to the team for an experience I can’t wait to be able to relive!

### 5/5 — Really lovely drama gardening

*2020-10-16, version 1.7*

I didn’t have super high hopes for this game, just sort of tried it on a whim. However, after a few minutes wandering around the main area, I was hooked. The story is more complex that it seems, with characters that surprised me multiple times. The way it deals with loss is so perfect and sad, and the garden model is a wonderful way to bring it together. I also happen to like gardening, so it was captivating in that way as well. Gorgeous soundtrack... just clearly a labor of love.

### 5/5 — What a delight

*2020-10-05, version 1.7*

I play mainly puzzle and adventure games, and have been looking for something with a deliberate pace and low stress. This was a perfect game for me. It was loads of fun, has some degree of thinking and logic but does not try to “stump” you, and has the most engaging storyline I’ve come across in a couple years. The art is thoughtful and thematically linked to the story, there is humor, intrigue, it was honestly a much better game than I thought it would be. Very much like a little movie. I was actually sad when it ended, I could’ve played it for twice as long. I hope there is a sequel, and more games for sure from this developer. Quite a brilliant little piece of art this is.

Edit: Oh and I want to add, I noticed some complaints about the UI. I didn’t find it to be that bad. I see what they’re referring to, but I found the issues a little annoying here and there at most. The game seems to be confused at times what you’re trying to click. No big deal. It doesn’t cause you to “die” or lose hit points lol

### 5/5 — What a joy to have come across this game.

*2020-09-29, version 1.7*

This game was such a pleasure to play. In many ways it reminded me of games that I’ve played before, Trace Memory (anybody remember Trace Memory?) and Oxenfree specifically come to mind, but it is also a truly unique experience all it’s own. I felt so moved by the characters, the music, the themes, the atmosphere, the narrative, the art, everything. It’s a story about forgiveness, mistakes, loss, and the perils of intimacy. The idea that we are, all of us, living symbiotically, that we all need one another, in spite (or because) of how difficult closeness can be...it felt especially poignant given the state of the world right now. I found this a great comfort to play. It was exciting and mysterious but it was familiar in a dream-like way. I’m glad I played this game, I’m going to remember it forever.

### 5/5 — Best game I have ever played

*2020-09-27, version 1.7*

I usually would not write reviews for any apps, but this will be an exception. This is genuinely the best game I have ever played in my entire life. The art was beautiful, and the characters, the dialogue, it all felt so incredibly REAL, to the point I miss it all now that I am finished. I have never played a game that has caught my attention and kept it like this, every second I played I was wanting more. You truly immerse yourself into this game and it is difficult to come out, I cannot even describe how wonderful the experience of playing this was. Thank you so much to the developers of this game, this will always be a favorite of mine and I will play this again and again.

### 5/5 — Amazing Game

*2020-09-25, version 1.7*

The storyline is great, every little sound in the game is great, even when they’re talking each character typing has a different sound that’s gentle and pleasing to the ear. I love that you don’t have to buy anything to make gameplay better, it’s just a good game that you can play start to finish. In your responses to people you have the option to be stern or passive and I think that’s great. You also always have an option of meat or veggies when it comes to food. All mutants and POC, which is also AMAZING. Very well thought out.

### 5/5 — Absolutely incredible!

*2020-08-02, version 1.7*

Possibly my favorite game to ever play, on mobile or otherwise. The game is a joy to explore through, each character unique and interesting in their own way. The only complaint I would have is some slight UI issues, but after playing it for a short while it’s easier to get a hang of. All I can say, is more of this please! Beautiful story, beautiful world, with beautiful, strange, intriguing visuals. It might not be the kind of game one might expect a sequel or second chapter of, but a guy can dream. Spellbinding!

### 5/5 — Best game in the AppStore by far!!!!

*2020-07-05, version 1.7*

Out of all the games I’ve ever played, this one is the best!!! By far! The story is beautiful and calming! Perfect to play on a rainy day! I can’t get enough of it! The graphics are outstanding too! The twists and turns in the story keep making me go back in the game whenever I can to see what happens! It’s so intriguing!! All of the characters are super lovable and you get to love them even more as the story goes!! Also the music add so much to the game!!! It’s really pretty!! And makes playing the game feel cozy! Growing the gardens is actually super fun and I always try to make them as neat as possible. Also I could listen to the music that is played in the garden all day! It’s so soothing! It’s mysterious, beautiful, and exciting features make this game superior to all the others! I hope a new one comes out!!! And if it does I can’t wait!!!

### 5/5 — Absolutely Phenomenal

*2020-06-10, version 1.7*

Originally just a random download to pass my time during a long roadtrip, this game blew me away with its intricate world building, soothing and meaningful themes and incredible cast of characters. The story was intriguing, well paced and while Mutazione does not force any sort of tedious gameplay on the player, this game rewards you heftily for exploring — both the map and the characters.

I felt genuine emotions when the game ended and I had to leave the characters and island that I had only spent seven hours getting to know. I’m in my second replay right now. I have thousands of hours in all sorts of video games and this is, unironically, my favorite singleplayer game in the world.

I eagerly await more content from the talented studio and narrative writers of this game. As an aspiring creative writer myself, this game inspired me and is the kind of content I aim to create.

### 5/5 — So amazing!!

*2020-04-17, version 1.7*

I for one loved the game. The art was absolutely beautiful. The music and the way the villagers sound as they talk is the best thing to listen to while playing this game. The storyline had me completely pulled in, it was so great. I just finished the game, and I really wish there was more. It gave me so much joy to play this game. It is not hard to understand, and it is very easy with the controls. Never once did I search for help online. It’s all about exploring and making your own decisions. There were ups and downs in the story, and I felt what the characters were feeling. As I’ve said before, it was extremely amazing. I look forward to future games, (if you will make any more), by this amazing group of creators who made this game. You have my full support and I wish you luck on the future ahead of you!

### 1/5 — Why I gave up after 30 minutes.

*2020-01-06, version 1.4*

Sigh. After being traumatized by pixel-hunting misses in Lucas Arts adventures of the 90's(which I loved nonetheless), I was thrilled when developers got the memo that players wanted hotspot indicators available in some fashion. The developers of Mutazione apparently didn't get the memo. If they were understandably concerned about interfering with the art, they could have made a press and hold to highlight feature.

The way hotspots work is that they automatically popup when you walk past them. The problem is that many have a very fine margin of activation so I often found myself running around tapping near a hotspot I just walked by ten times to reactivate it. This problem is compounded by the fact that while the game is 2D in art design, you navigate in 3D. This means it's super easy to miss a path because you had no idea to tap down or up. Since there are so many things that look actionable that aren't, and many things that don't look actionable but are, I found myself tapping all over the screen 50 times for each area. The area exits aren't remotely clear so it would be easy to miss an entire area if you don't pixel hunt. The requirements to do this are in direct conflict with the supposed relaxing nature of the game. Oh and the map is of no help. There are too many good games out there to bother fighting a UI for a game that might be decent beneath it. It drives me nuts when developers miss such an obvious design problem.

### 2/5 — One Big Oversight

*2022-11-06, version 1.83*

I really liked this game and was into the story line pretty far and it finally got to the point where I couldn’t play anymore. As I was planting things in a new garden, I could never access the second or third page of my inventory. I found ways around it for a while, but now the one thing I need is on the last inventory page so now I can’t keep going. It’s possible that this is happening because I’m playing on my iPad and I don’t have a controller?? I’m not sure. I’m not going to buy a controller just for this. I tried emailing the company to find a resolution but they never emailed me back. So… good game - I wish they would fix the UI on it though.

### 2/5 — 3.5 hours in was enough

*2020-05-25, version 1.7*

This game needed to be edited. It’s far too long and winding with less than compelling characters. The premise is good, and you can tell a lot of heart went into making it. However after going back and forth to clicking one of two options over and over again for dialogue sequences that go on for ages longer than necessary, clicking far up on the screen for one of two options that are meaningless is repetitive and eventually just plain nonsense. I built my first garden and that was enough. If this is all I have to look forward to- super soft dialogue that meanders and lots of revisiting boring areas- count me out.

### 3/5 — LOVED this game but it was entirely too short.

*2024-03-26*

I was thoroughly disappointed with the ending, there was so much potential for this game to continue. We either could have been able to stay on for the rest of the summer returning for breaks (we only get to hear that this happens with no ability to play it), we could have been offered the ability to move on to playing one of the other characters. Even once the crisis is solved there is so much that could be done here, exploring locked doors, further investigation of the fung and under ground tunnels, the empty building, the small groups of plants in the background that could be accessed by one of the boats, filling in the missing information on the plants, utilizing the medical information given, planting outside of the 7 specific garden zones. I kept playing along the storyline hoping achievements would unlock a larger range of access and abilities but no such luck. I have to question why there are even so many save slots as there’s really only so much you can do and the small variations you can make don’t really affect the overall story. Hopefully the developers will flesh this game out a bit more and re-release.

### 4/5 — Well done, but use a controller

*2020-03-09, version 1.7*

So, first of all, a lot of the scathing complaints about the UI and navigation are...well...completely accurate if not understated. BUT I can honestly say that using a controller makes the game incredibly easier to play. I honestly wouldn’t stick with it at all if I didn’t have one, but my controller rectified 99% of my navigation concerns.

The atmosphere, the deliberate and slow pace, the richness of the environment and the ease of missing things actually work together for me to make it an engaging and interesting game. It’s like a well written short story that might be a difficult read but you’d almost feel a little guilt putting it down without finishing it. It drives you to patiently explore, to look at everything, and to adjust your play style to its pace instead of the other way around - if that’s not what you’re looking for then come back to this game another time and you’ll enjoy it better.

### 4/5 — Best game for Iphone

*2019-10-01, version 1.1*

EDIT: They did not fix the bug that sets you back 2-3 chapters. I started a new game after the update and I was on chapter 6 this time and it put me back to chapter 3 :( This is the only reason I deducted a star.

This one replaces OXENFREE as my all time favorite IPhone game. It’s like it was made with me in mind. If you love animation, stories, exploring, mystery, gardening, ambient music and feels, this game is for you. I can’t give a description that does it justice, so I encourage you to see for yourself. I really hope this developer makes more games like this. Paying $5 a month for Apple Arcade will be worth it if they continue to offer games like this one. They fixed the bug where it put you back a couple chapters, but I didn’t mind playing it over, which I will definitely be playing the entire game over again. This is a beautiful, cozy game you can lose yourself in. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

**Developer response:** EDIT: As of version 1.3 of the game, this save state bug has been fixed. I hope you have a good time returning to the game, if you choose to!

I'm sorry to hear that you had this trouble!

We're working hard to find the save state bug and eliminate it and would really appreciate your help in tracking it down. Email me here: buddy[at]akuparagames.com

### 5/5 — A Game You'll Remember

*2022-08-05, version 1.82*

Mutazione is one of those games you’ll just never get out of your head. The compelling storyline, the breathtaking visuals, the calming vibe, imaginative environment, and the lovable characters, really makes this journey a unique work of art. It may start of slow, you may be a little confused. But like picking up a book, the more you invest; the more you'll connect to the amazing experience. It’s always fun to predict what will happen next, your entire perspective will change once you finish the game. This is a game you simply MUST play. It’s one of a kind. I wish more games were like this.

### 5/5 — I didn’t expect it to be so good.

*2022-02-23, version 1.82*

So I was bored one day decided to browse through Apple Arcade apps see what’s new…i come across this app and I’m apprehensive about it because I have high expectations for games like these. I decided ultimately that I would play just 10 minutes if I wasn’t hooked I’ll just delete it no harm. I was HOOKED in 5 minutes. I pretty much didn’t stop playing until I got to the end and it still took me probably 3 days of playing whenever I could to complete. The story line…remarkable the graphics the nature of game play it was just so smooth and captivating. The sound track and satisfying sounds were an added huge bonus. I will probably replay this again. I want to lay it all out there for everyone but you really just need to start playing. If you like dialogue choice based games this is a winner!

### 5/5 — Amazing different game.

*2022-02-16, version 1.82*

I’ve never experienced this kind of game before. While it was a bit soap opera-like(too much at times), I stuck with it and discovered that the tasks were totally satisfying. I almost felt sad when the adventure came to an end and then I discovered that there was more to do via the gardens and letters.
A rare game that I didn’t need a walkthrough to get through it. A couple questions I might search online for tho. Great job guys. I look forward to your next work of art!
PS. I wish Kai could have changed into more appropriate jungle attire or something.

### 5/5 — One of the best games on Apple Arcade

*2021-11-24, version 1.82*

This game is honestly one of the most memorable games I have played thus far, amazing graphics, unique characters and plot. Not to mention how relaxing it is to play, with a calming soundtrack to listen to. It’s a rly well thought out game and I definitely enjoyed playing it. However, It’s a relatively short game that will probably take you a week to finish. And it doesn’t have a part 2 which is extremely disappointing, once your done with the game that’s it.

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — one of my favorites.

*2021-11-07, version 1.82*

This game is probably one of the best i have played. It’s engaging, the graphics are amazing, the storyline is entertaining, the whole game is beautifully designed. Once i finished this game it left me wanting more! the personalization and decisions i had in this game were perfect. I love all of the plants and the whole concept, and i was never left confused. This game makes me extremely happy, it’s super fun and interesting. i keep looking for more games like this because this one was so good. i love the little hints, and the notebook was super helpful. The controls were easy for me to understand, especially with the game variety that i have. this game was a masterpiece, i hope you come out with more to this storyline. <3

### 5/5 — Stole my whole heart

*2021-08-08, version 1.81*

The pitch for this game often is
“mutant soap opera”. You begin the story traveling to an isolated community, and over the course of the game, learn about its inhabitants and their world, their joys and their troubles. This is a game about nurturing and gardening, life and decay, caring for people and plants and helping them grow through obstacles. It’s a deliciously slow narrative with the pace and depth of a novel, populated with vividly realized characters, colorful visuals, and an unforgettable soundscape. If this unusual game pulls you in with its big heart and open arms, you won’t soon forget the experience.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Beautiful

*2021-07-31, version 1.81*

This game was perfect. The colors, sounds, individual stories, timing, and overall storyline was just beautiful. I was so eager to play and when I had the time, it felt wonderful to keep with the slower pace and not rush through. This was relaxing and rewarding and strangely enough, it was even a good lesson that I didn’t know I needed. Being able to roll humor, reflection, family, meditation, knowledge, grief, and growth into one immaculate package like this is amazing and this is just the game that I’ve been searching for. Even if I didn’t know it before I started my journey 🙂

### 5/5 — Great game but got reset?

*2021-07-05, version 1.81*

First off this is a great game I would recommend to any friend. It’s rare for me to write a good review because not many games capture my attention for long enough for me to keep or find interesting but this game does that. However, more than halfway into the game my progress got reset when I came back to it. It made me start from the beginning and any ways I could get my progress back would be greatly appreciated.

### 5/5 — Beautiful, stunning game

*2021-06-21, version 1.81*

I absolutely loved this!! I got to play it for free with my apple arcade subscription, but I think it’s worth it to even pay $20 on Steam and other platforms.

At first, I admit I was a bit iffy on the mechanics. It was kind of difficult to control as I’ve seen in other reviews, clicking to collect seeds etc. was tricky. But, I’m so glad I gave it another try because I fell in love with the story!

I would love to go back to Mutazione again because the characters pulled me in. I became enthralled with all of their stories and loved them. Not to mention the gardening mechanic is beautiful… especially with Miu (trying not to spoil, lol)

Overall, I really recommend this game. It’s funny, sad at times, but most of all great to get wrapped up into! Also a perfect summer game, thank you creators!!!

### 5/5 — Incredible game, play with sound and get immersed

*2021-05-17, version 1.81*

WOW. Just finished this game after spending every evening for a week playing and then a full day today. A nice respectable chunk of play time.
I have always loved mobile games but this is truly next-level. There is no need to forgive and ignore issues and lackluster features because this game is polished.
The story actually moved me, the music made me happy and actually added to the story and my immersion in it.
I like to play while watching something to keep me busy when I’m relaxing, but this had my full attention and intrigued me the entire time.
To me a good game is one that needs no tutorial but it challenging enough to make you consider searching one and keeps you attentive to the details along the way.
You can run through the tasks as written or detour in the semi-open world and talk to different characters throughout their day for Easter eggs and deeper connections with them.
The art is gorgeous and unique and the gameplay is almost seamless. I cannot recommend this enough and I truly think the paywall was worth experiencing this and some other games. (Guildlings🥰)
What are you waiting for?? Start playing this game!!
