## What is MX?

The MX-Stream App gives you access to streaming content (Tidal, Spotify Connect), internet radio as well as directly connected USB storage and Network Attached Storages. The MX-Stream App allows you to control your Musical Fidelity MX-Stream with your phone or tablet. The App acts as a remote for the on-board operating system and playback software of the MX-Stream, which is - by default - set up to enable you 1:1 bit-perfect digital audio playback. You’re able to switch between the inputs directly from your phone for enhanced comfort. You can also customize your screen with different backgrounds. Additional features will be coming via Over The Air updates.

### 3/5 — Must try harder, Musical Fidelity

This app is, frankly, a disappointment. It is clunky, and looks like something developed not long after the release of Windows 95. I’m using Tidal within the app - Musical Fidelity was initially going to develop Tidal Connect functionality so we could play high-resolution tracks from within the superb Tidal app - but they have since dropped the idea and we are stuck with an old-fashioned, graphics-lite MX-Stream app. It requires several clicks on my iPad Pro to select albums and play tracks, and the user experience really is pretty average. Spotify Connect is available, but since it is three years and counting that we’ve been waiting for a premium hi-fi subscription tier for that platform, users who buy the MX-Stream as a hi-fi source have to make do with Tidal within this app. This is a shame, because the MX-Stream itself is a seriously good piece of kit: if you already own a decent DAC, this is pure streaming at an incredible bang-for-buck. But it is let down by a truly average MX-Stream app.
