### 2/5 — Can't customize pictures:(

*2014-10-06*

I bought this because I thought it familiar voices & objects were associated with each letter it would help my toddler learn letters more easily. You can customize the voice, but when you try to upload a picture the whole app crashes. Very disappointing. I'm glad I didn't pay more for it since the main feature I wanted does not work. If you want something customizable, I'd look elsewhere. Hoping they fix the bug that causes it to crash soon.

### 2/5 — Cute, but crashes constantly.

*2014-08-16, version 2.1*

Before we can even get started, the app is crashing constantly. The personalization option, which is the reason I bought it since it's such a great idea, isn't working. I can't add words or photos, it just returns to my home screen. Booooo :/

### 2/5 — New version needs help

*2013-10-13, version 2.0*

Love that you reworked the train. Unfortunately, it keeps freezing now :(

### 4/5 — Love

*2012-01-10, version 1.08*

My 18 month old loves this. It's cute and fun. Somewhat educational.

### 5/5 — The boys love this one....

*2011-12-23*

This is app is great at teaching alphabet and word recognition while keeping them interested. Great app.....

### 5/5 — Awesome app for a child learning the alphabet!

*2011-11-22, version 1.08*

My kid loves this game. It goes through the Alphabet and not only gives great verbal for the letter but also applies it to things my child likes! It's a must have to entertain and teach!

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2011-11-20*

Thanks for making this. I am an SLP and use it often in therapy with my kids & ASD kids. I just noticed that you could customize it / change the pics but how do you change them back? I want to change them back & forth to keep them from memorizing them and to keep them interactive with it.

### 4/5 — Cute and Customizable

*2011-09-23*

What We Liked:

My 3-year-old has been having a lot of fun with this app, it’s right where she’s at developmentally and is great for her learning stage as well. She giggles away to herself as she taps the interactive elements behind each set of doors and often says the name of the object as she taps on them, she loves to show me what she’s discovered behind the opening doors.

What I REALLY love are the customization options. Phonics geek moment coming….most ABC apps are just that – learn your letter apps, and this is no exception, phonics aren’t built in. BUT with the addition of the customization options, not only can you put in your own photos etc. you can even add in your own audio. So you could insert your own photo, your own word text, and your own spoken phonics-version of the object name, such as, “C says k for cat.” That really helps to make the connection, you’ve got the letter name, the most common letter sound, and an object starting with that letter sound. You could even get very Orton-Gillingham with this one and say, “C says k and s as in cat and circle.”

What We Didn’t Like:

Because the letters for the child to tap on to hear the name are off-set (they are over on the lower left of the train car), my daughter often skips touching them, and goes straight to opening the doors, so she never actually hears the letter name if she’s playing with this app on her own. I’d love it if the touch screen area to hear the letter name was increased to include the front of the doors, so the first tap gets the letter name and opens the doors, the second tap starts the interactivity with the revealed object. Also, it was a bit tricky to get the O to say it’s name, instead the octopus always wanted to come first, ink, and then you could get the O to work.

I’d also love it if I could customize just one of the three options (custom word, image, sound file), as it is you need to customize the word AND the image together with the option of recording your own audio. I’d love to be able to just record my own audio and leave the original word and interactive animation in place.

Overall:

My ABC Train is a fun interactive alphabet experience for small children – especially preschoolers. The built-in customization options offer valuable opportunities to include personally relevant photographs, phonics content, and customized narration by a parent.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2011-08-11, version 1.06*

My two year old loves it, we just got it and I know this will be one of his favorites!
Thanks Loeschware! Cheers!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2011-07-03*

My 22month old LOVES this game. He's never been interested in any other apps but I cant get him away from this one. Very educational too so I don't mind. ; )

### 5/5 — Like the update

*2011-06-28*

I use this app A LOT when working with children with autism. The kids LOVE this app, and there are so many things to talk about. It motivates some of my most reluctant clients to talk. I used to have to swipe quickly over the V since it upset some of the children who didn't understand that it was pretend and that the cat wasn't really hurt, so I appreciate the change. Like other reviewers have said, it is very touch sensitive and requires careful handling. For the amount of language this app motivates children to use, it is well worth 99 cents.

### 4/5 — Good enough app, not well thought through

*2011-06-11*

My 28 month old son loves this app, as he loves trains. However, when he touches the "P" car, the ipad says "DON'T GIVE ME THAT ATTITUDE, I'VE GOT ONE OF MY OWN." Seriously, people - you have to think this through if you are going to make apps for small children. Now my boy is listening to that part over and over and trying to repeat it. It will be the reason I have to uninstall the app, despite that he loves it. The media may find mouthy little children to be cute. As a parent and as a Teacher, I DO NOT.

### 5/5 — Cute customized cars- cool feature

*2011-06-09*

My youngest cousins (ages 3 & 5) like playing this app the best when it's customized to silly things that they like in the cars. BUT they do like the P Car a lot (with the funny passengers) and the goat eating garbage gives a giggle too. Thanks for this super app. I only wish you could get through the cars a bit faster: may be in an update? ;-)

### 2/5 — Disappointed!

*2011-06-09*

This app would be great but there are several problems that make it very frustrating!!! First, it cuts off in the middle EVERY time my little guy uses it! Also, the pictures are very sensitive to touch & it's difficult to actually open the trains without swiping over to the next train instead! My little guy is very good at playing apps on the phone but this one is way too sensitive. I am SO disappointed! Please fix these things! Until fixes are made - don't buy this!

### 5/5 — My son wants the Vacuum back!!

*2011-05-29*

This was his prefered car and he used to jump straight to it. He loved the V car just because of the vacuum sucking up the cat. It's too sad to see his disapointment after going over all the cars up to V hoping the vacuum will be there that time and not finding it. Worse than that, he handles the iPhone back to me and saying "fix fix" and there is nothing I can do. Please, bring the vacumm back.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Garbage!

*2013-10-13, version 2.0*

This AP is garbage!! It keeps freezing and you have to reload it!!! I want my money back!

### 1/5 — Awful

*2012-06-23, version 1.09*

I am a preschool teacher and was hoping this would be a great app to use during my carpet time. However, the app often freezes in the beginning. Also, the letters are not clearly displayed because there is distracting graffiti in the background.

### 1/5 — Worked only a short time

*2012-05-07, version 1.09*

It stopped working the first day. Lots of scenery passing by but no train. I had to uninstall the app.

### 1/5 — Boring

*2012-03-07, version 1.08*

My son played it twice and won't play it again because "mom, it's really boring"

### 1/5 — Disappointed in updrade

*2011-05-13*

My little guy loved the letter V car, thought it was funny and very disappointed in the upgrade, now doesn't want to play it!

### 1/5 — Not good

*2010-11-19, version 0*

My 2 yr old was bored after 5 min and went to another app. The opportunities on this are weak. Learning comes from maybe listening to the sounds the they hear or I guess they're supposed to pay attention to the random letters.

### 1/5 — Good concept but.....

*2010-09-19, version 0*

My boys love trains and we thought this would be a great app; however, pictures are very blurry once inserted (even pictures taken from a professional photographer). Also, once customized you can't go back to the original! Please fix and I will increase my rating. Thanks!

### 1/5 — Update crashes

*2010-08-25, version 0*

My daughter liked the train, even though the recordings never saved. So I updated the version and now it keeps crashing!

### 1/5 — Frustrated!

*2010-03-24, version 0*

I customized the letter B, and the game just sticks there and won't move to any other car. What am I doing wrong???

### 2/5 — Used to be good

*2020-12-26*

Used to be good but volume hasn’t been working for a couple years now.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — My ABC Train

*2018-10-10, version 2.2*

It’s one of my favorite applications!

### 5/5 — Revised update

*2015-11-10*

NEW REVIEW: This app is now great after the recent update, my daughter loves it. Customer support was awesome and quick to respond by email to inform me of update status and even provided a free app for the inconvenience.

OLD REVIEW:
Apparently this is not updated for iOS 9. Cannot customize with pictures, will not access camera or photos, app just closes when I try to do so.

### 5/5 — My ABC Train

*2015-07-29, version 2.1*

Every time I put my photos on this app, it quickly stops itself! Something's wrong! Maybe the ABC train needs to update.

### 5/5 — Super!!

*2014-01-04, version 2.1*

This is super for toddlers very interactive and fun!! Great learning tool! I highly recommend it!

### 5/5 — Works great again = Happy son.

*2013-10-15, version 2.1*

Now that the update is working again, I'm so relieved. Fun app for my youngest son (2 years old). Recommended app

### 5/5 — My kids love it

*2013-04-25*

My 4 year old has loved this app for a couple of years now, and now my 1 almost 2 year old has taken up the reigns. A great way to get kids to learn their letters. Plus how can you deny the robot dance?

### 5/5 — Our cat is the star of this app!

*2012-06-23*

My almost 2 year old is loving this app. We inserted a picture of our cat under the M Car [cat's name is Maui]. She whizzes passed the letters and laughs when the door opens on the 'M' . We leave the phonics-version of the words to make it more educational. ;-)

### 5/5 — Great Train App.

*2012-06-23, version 1.09*

I've owned a preschool for over 4 decades: this app is perfect for rug time for the 2 & 3 year old classrooms. The teachers use the customization options and put in words & audio from the lesson of the week. One teacher even put in a child's face for her birthday! Big hit!

### 5/5 — Cool train app

*2012-05-25, version 1.09*

Just what we were looking for! My little guy really likes it, and I feel like he is learning at the same time.

### 5/5 — The App That Lasts

*2012-01-30, version 1.08*

My Son is 23 months and he's loved this app since he was 18 months. This app has longevity.
