It’s an excellent way to teach kids about money management. And my kids always remembered the money I owed them, but never the money they owed me. This app solved that problem for us. Our kids don’t have bank accounts or debit cards yet, so it’s nice to be able to track their money and allowance without having to connect yet. I’m a busy mom of three and there is very little time to manage apps so this works really well for our family. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App doesn’t load *2024-11-16, version 2.0.1* It worked fine for a couple of weeks then app stopped loading any data , have been trying to use it from past couple of days, but nothing all I get is a blank screen ### 1/5 — WASTED 2 HRS FOR NOTHING *2024-06-21, version 2.0.1* I just spent the last 2 hours trying to set this thing up. Between the glitches and lack of necessary features and abundance of unnecessary features, I'm just really angry now. I have 3 children, I wanted to make each of them a daily, weekly, & monthly chore checklist. I forgot to include something on one of their lists, it took me forever to figure out how to add a chore. I've tried to delete 2 of the chore lists over & over to no avail, not even when I restart the app. says it's deleted, but it's always still there. Best part? When I go in to see what it looks like on my kids' end, ITS BASICALLY USELESS. the lists are smashed and some words can't be seen, and there's no checklist for them to look at anywhere. If they want to see what they have to do today or this week, they have to click on the puzzle and then scroll through and try to read and figure out what needs to be done. every single time they would log into the app they would have to switch to the chore screen and then select the chore list and then scroll through the overcrowded list with lines overlapping each other, looking for what they need to do. they would have to do that every time and separately for each list into the daily list scroll up and down multiple times, into the weekly list, scroll up and down multiple times, into the monthly list, scroll up and down multiple times… If my kids were that self motivated I wouldn't need an app in the first place. There should be way to easily edit the chore lists. There should be a way to assign one list to multiple kids. There should be an easy way to reward individual tasks rather than just when they are all completed, there should absolutely be somewhere in the kids side where they can just easily see the checklists of chores, and in 2024 there's no reason why some of the words in a list should be getting cut off or overlapped. You don't give the same amount of space for every line, you have it so that the line adjusts in size to accommodate what is written there. If not, give a character limit so I know I can't list the individual steps of some chores because they're not gonna be able to see it anyway. two freaking hours of my life I spent trying to set this up just to find out it's basically useless. ### 1/5 — Not for Littles *2024-03-22, version 2.0.1* I wanted to like this app, especially since it’s marketed for those under 6. But there’s no supports for pre or emergent readers. Moreover, the app itself isn’t super user friendly and there’s no time of day settings. (I.e. a task for teeth brushing but for a task rabbit kiddo, they want to check it off right away. I need two of those - one in the morning and one at night. There’s no way to do that and set reminders. At this point, idk what I’m enabling for notifications. I love the financial literacy component, but emergent readers need someone to read and guide them through these lessons. ### 3/5 — Brilliant concept, very effective, but needs some tweaks *2024-11-15, version 2.0.1* I started using this app with my 8-year-old daughter, and I think the idea of completing chore puzzles and daily educational challenges is brilliant. It's perfect for younger kids who are just starting to learn about staying on schedule and doing chores. I’m genuinely excited about where this app could go. I’d be happy to pay for a subscription if few improvements are made. Those are my frustrations: 1. The Login Frustration: Every time I close the app, it logs me out, and I have to sign back in again, wasting my time. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen on my daughter’s device. 2. Editing Puzzle: Right now, if I make a typo or want to change the image on a puzzle, there’s no way to edit it. I know they’re working on it, but it’d be super helpful to have this feature soon. 3. Endless Confirmations: After I approve her puzzle pieces, my daughter still has to click to accept every single piece. Why? She already knows she requested them, so it feels like a lot of unnecessary clicking (it feels like the app "has a stroke"). Accepting just the final completed puzzle on her side would make much more sense and would also serve a purpose—it shows her how much money she earned by completing it. 4. Routine Chores: It would be amazing if I could set daily chore puzzles that just stick at the top of her list instead of having to duplicate them every single day (where they end up at the bottom of the chore list). It’d save me so much time and effort for me! 5. Kid-Friendly Visuals: The stock photos for the puzzles aren’t very fun for kids, and I’d rather use cute illustrations. Yes, we can upload our own, but I’d love not to have to! Maybe bringing in an illustrator could give the app a more fun, kid-friendly look. 6. Leaderboard & Avatar Issues: My daughter doesn’t get the leaderboard because she doesn’t know where she is relative to other kids, so she doesn’t see any reason to look at it. Plus, she was upset when she picked an avatar she doesn’t like and found out she can’t change it. 7. Daily Challenge: I think the daily challenge is a fantastic feature, but the questions are really easy, and there's only one per day. Expanding this feature to add more challenges, maybe even some games that teach finance, would be amazing. ### 3/5 — Can’t back up or close tutorials *2024-09-25, version 2.0.1* Update: Their team contacted me and are working on it. Eager to see the changes. …. You need to have a back button to reselect when you select the wrong option during setup. And there needs to be a way to escape out of the tutorials. There arent any close buttons. It’s extremely frustrating. ### 3/5 — Just not user friendly enough for me *2024-06-12, version 2.0.1* I was excited to use this app for my 8 yr old but within the last 24 hours from download I have determined this app will waste my time instead of helping us manage it and money. The chore puzzle is a WONDERFUL IDEA, but the functionality needs a lot of help. You have to have even, not odd numbers of chores or routine steps, because they don’t have odd numbers in the app. Then if you make a mistake you have delete and do it all over again. That’s not a fast set up for busy single parents like me. I need to get in there and quickly duplicate a puzzle that’s customized to the routine my child does regardless of how many that day or time of day. Then add it to a weekly calendar so we have structured chores and routines for each day of the week. I will have to go with an app that’s less fun for my child’s goals but that is functional according to a calendar. They responded within 24 hours and solved it within 48! Second, the app works well for me because we struggle with a chore list/weekly allowance concept. My First Nest Egg helps me connect how chores can simultaneously be a requirement of living and also a source of earning money. It adds extrinsic motivation without destroying existing intrinsic motivation. It supports the ideas of save/spend/give buckets, which we will build on when discussing budgets. We are more spontaneous, so chore lists don’t work for us (for example, some days, my kid sets the table while other days, they have too much homework.) The app gives us flexibility to earn when there’s time and intention. It also grants control to the child—allowing them to give themself credit for their work when they remember/feel they went above and beyond/have a financial goal. Odd numbers work with thought. You can add an extra task, like “say thank you” to your 5 day chore to make it a 6 piece puzzle. (Wash dishes x5, smile x1) I eventually used the pieces as a checklist to make sure the chore is done correctly. Wash the car becomes (soap, rinse, scrub tires, dry glass) 4 pieces. The flexible chore option lets you assign a chore to both children, so they can choose extra chores.
