The bead animation and low sound for each bead movement are my favorite things in this app. However it will be really nice if the app gives an option to 'Restart' or 'Continue' the earlier count. Also having a vibration for each bead movement while in silent mode will be a nice addition. ### 3/5 — Needs a tweak *2013-05-21, version 1.1* I like the idea of this product, and I'm using it, but I have one issue and one request. My issue is that the sound it makes when you advance a bead is inconsistent. As a result I have to look at the device frequently to see if the counter has advanced. I find this distracts my attention from the chanting. My request is that, in addition to fixing the problem with the bead sound, that they develop an additional tone or chime to designate the completion of a cycle, again so that I don't have to refer to my device. With these issues fixed Mala will be a very useful app. ### 4/5 — Simple, works by touch *2012-06-23, version 1.1* Put the phone on silent vibrate, and it works by touch alone. Now there is no need to carry your prayer beads with you, and can use iphone in its place... ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No reset option *2020-06-08, version 1.5* I could not find any option to reset. ### 1/5 — Wrong way! *2018-10-08, version 1.5* When doing the mala it should be turned towards you, where as in the app the mala is turned the wrong direction when tapped, this is a disgrace as it is not accurate to what it’s meant to be. ### 1/5 — Tap sound is inaudible … *2018-02-06, version 1.5* … on an iPod used by someone with older ears. The frequencies that make up the tap sound don’t carry well, or turn corners at all. I have to max the volume and aim the speakers at my face to hear the tiny, tinny tap. Suggestion: make the tap adjustably louder, and then test it on your parents. A choice of tasteful taps would make it easier to choose an audible one. Also — It’s not your fault that the standard (non-iPhone) iPad doesn’t have a phone buzzer to vibrate after 108 beads. It is your fault that you rely on the imaginary buzzer. Maybe, optionally, the app could instead make a chime sound with the iPod’s speaker, so the user will know they’ve completed a lap. While you’re fixing it, you should consider adding a setting to adjust how many beads constitute a lap. If I could set it to chime after 72 audible taps, this app would meet my needs, and be worth five stars. As is, it’s more of a distraction than a useful tool. ### 1/5 — Junk *2017-03-05, version 1.3* I would expect it to count each bead. It rotates the mama and has no vibrating. ### 1/5 — Doesn't work for me *2017-02-23, version 1.3* I was happy to learn of this app from Lion's Roar. Unfortunately it doesn't work for on my new iPad. There's no sound whatever when I touch the bead and nothing when I finish 108 beads. There's no way to restart a count, and no help button or information about the app in the app. It does make sounds on my iPhone but I cannot adjust the volume. Works on a KISS principle - KeepIt Simple, Stupid. Simple is what mekes it the best. Note to a developer: it would be very nice if you could add “play a sound on completion” Vibration is great for an iPhone, but doesn’t work on my vision pro. Convenient, easy, and private. I would like to make some suggestions though such as being able to change to different sounds for 'clicking' bead and would love to be able to upload a photo of my guru on the bead and the option to change the back ground would be awesome.
