The old version was shockingly bad so hopefully this will be better. Others have commented it is difficult to see your 8 counting scores - I disagree (the green flags next to the counting scores is quite obvious). However I agree with others that the “news” section should be somewhere else away from the main homepage. At least let the user reorder the sections (so we can stick it down the bottom out of the way). ### 2/5 — Could be so much better *2026-03-20, version 2.0.8* Given that this is the main Scottish Golf app you would think that the powers that be would develop something that is intuitive, easy to navigate, with good UI and UX. This is app has none of that. I use a free golf app on the course then enter my score into this app in the club house later as this app is so problematic. ### 1/5 — A poor App *2024-11-13, version 2.0.0* Updates are almost non-existent as nothing happens usually. When an update actually takes place, membership number is lost and sign in is start again!! Functionality could be better !! ### 2/5 — Test this App FFS *2024-11-08, version 2.0.0* Latest ‘update’ 2.0 has now clicked up the booking of friends onto your tee time. Unbelievable some people are actually paid to produce this untested rubbish. ### 3/5 — Update *2024-10-20, version 1.015* Keeps asking to update to newer version and when I click on it takes me App Store but doesn’t allow me to update ? Good app tho for bookings and keeping track of your handcap ### 1/5 — Only Scottish courses 🙈 *2024-10-11* I was playing in England last week and discovered that the new app only works with courses in Scotland. This is a backward step from the old previous version which allowed the entry of a ‘General Score’ (GS) on any course in the UK. The older version of the app also allowed the entry of a GS from any course in the world, but now it’s only Scotland and the performance is dreadful. Scottish Golf, you need to get the functionality sorted out if you want to offer Scottish Club Golfers a decent reliable service. After all we are paying for this through the levy we have to pay each year, with no choice in the matter. ### 3/5 — Updates *2024-10-07, version 1.015* Keep getting told to update the app, when I click update and I am forwarded to App Store the app is up to date. Please sort out, other than that the app is ok. ### 1/5 — Only App I’m Forced To Have *2024-10-04* Forced to have it for my handicap but several flaws: 1) Keeps saying update available yet when you go into the App Store it says it’s on the most recent version. 2) If you’ve added a Guest as your marker for General Play Score, despite you being allowed to (confirmed via Scottish Golf), app says Guests marking don’t count towards handicap (it does!) 3) If you lose mobile data during your round, round exits and can’t get back to it. Because you’ve started a round, can’t finish the round or sign for a score, forcing you to have an incomplete score and having to get your club to manually remove the score. 1st version of Scottish Golf app was good - this is atrocious! ### 1/5 — Poor app *2024-10-01, version 1.015* App crashes all the time. Constantly tells me to update but is up to date. Poor ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Truly awful *2026-07-05* Not for for purpose. An absolute disgrace of an update/app. Can’t find friends, can’t add friends, asks you to pay a guest fee when adding a friend manually. But you can’t create a general scorecard without a tee time so you either book multiple tee times (on each) or only one person can do a card. The news feature is waste of time. No one wants o use the app for that. Handicap, booking tee times and submitting scores. That’s it. ### 1/5 — Not a great app update *2026-06-11* The recent upgrade has made this app even worse. Search friends criteria/options are very confusing and do not work properly most of the times. Even when you manage to find one and send a friend request, the other person never receives the request although on the my app it says ‘pending request’. Next time I login to the app, ending request will have disappeared and instead add as a friend will appear against the same friend who I had added previously. There is no way adding new friends to the list😬. Absolutely useless app. ### 1/5 — Can’t see scores properly *2026-05-25* A strange update, which now means that I need to look at the same data, but just in a much smaller font, and takes more effort to see the only thing I need to see - my scores. What exactly is the point of launching an app that is worse at the one thing people use the app for. Please ask your USERS what they want out of the app. No one cares about news, or adverts. They want to see their scores, and you have just taken a significant backwards step - truly baffling. ### 1/5 — Version 3.0.0 update *2026-05-22* I’m very impressed with how bad the recent changes to the Scottish Golf app are. The previous layout made it very easy to identify your 8 counting scores at a glance, with the fully green-highlighted scores providing a clear and intuitive visual system. The new flag-based layout feels like a significant step backwards in usability. What was once quick and straightforward to understand is now unnecessarily cluttered and harder to follow. For an app feature that many golfers regularly rely on to track their handicap, clarity and simplicity should be the priority. I would strongly encourage the development team to consider either: * reverting to the previous design, or * adding an option for users to switch between the old and new display styles. The previous version was far more user-friendly and effective. If I could rate 0 stars I would. ### 1/5 — Useless *2026-03-19, version 2.0.8* I can login to my account on the website without a problem but if I try to use the app it says the membership number and / or password are not recognised. If I use “forgot password” the link takes me to the English golf website(!), which not surprisingly doesn’t recognise my CDH number, so a complete doom loop! ### 1/5 — Too many ADVERTS *2025-10-11, version 2.0.8* Very annoying with totally unnecessary ADVERTS unrelated to golf. ### 1/5 — Flaky *2025-09-21, version 2.0.8* It’s hit or miss that the App opens to the main functionality or if it requires logging in yet again!!! ### 1/5 — Terrible and useless *2025-07-28, version 2.0.8* Downloaded the app and managed to create an account for OpenPlay and submitted my first score. Now when I try to submit scores there is literally no option to do so. A massive waste of time and money. ### 1/5 — Not very good *2025-06-28, version 2.0.7* The app is useless for booking Tee times. It’s meant to be a free app to support golf handicaps in Scotland, shouldn’t have adverts. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Ratings from VMS using Clubs *2025-04-16, version 2.0.7* Golf Clubs that use Scottish Golf Free to use Club management SW get full functionality from the App. At my golf club, over 95% of members now use the App to consume all Club Services. The App is fully integrated. Well done SGU. ### 5/5 — Much Improved *2023-02-03* I didn’t mind the old app and although there are some features missing at the moment, the new SG app seems easy to navigate and does everything that is required. Pro - Use it for being able keep a handicap, do like how it has the trend. ### 3/5 — Option request *2025-02-18* A useful app but I would like to see an option to display a list of all tee times for a selected date showing players names (rather than little grey or green squares as now). Yes it’s possible to see the names by tapping on the individual time slot but that adds your name whether you intend playing or not, which you then have to delete. Display size shouldn’t be a problem, I had BRS Golf on my smart phone which showed players names OK. ### 3/5 — Getting better *2025-01-22, version 2.0.2* Scoring easier than other apps, comp entry improvements making it easier to enter and pay.
