It malfunctions and gives “API error” messages. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it doesn’t help. I enjoy it when it’s working, but that is rare anymore. ### 2/5 — App been malfunctioning for months - pro version *2024-01-06* Bought the pro version because I thought it would improve performance. Basically can only see “my location” and no other locations. I’ve deleted app and re-installed it. No performance improvements. Sorry I spent the $ on it. Disappointed because when it works, it’s great. ### 2/5 — Problem with ads *2023-05-26* There are problems with the way the ads display. I get the same banner ad displayed 10 times in a row on my screen, to the point where I can’t even see the location information. Also, sunset prediction is accurate about 50% of the time. ### 2/5 — Latest version still doesn’t work *2023-02-17* No data loads ### 2/5 — Inconsistent *2020-08-09, version 2.1.12* If I pan the map slightly the color contours for the sunset change significantly. Spots on the map can go from bright yellow to blue with a simple repositioning. In another case experienced today, a map displaying a uniform percentage shows a wildly varying color contour. Shouldn’t the color be uniform? I have no idea what to believe. So my general impression is this app is buggy and unreliable. Sticking with TPE. ### 3/5 — Update Reviews *2020-03-01* I haven’t used this yet but was encouraged by a friend to get it. I usually read the reviews before I download an app and if I had done that before downloading this one I wouldn’t have done it. The ver first review slams it for them not being able to access it at times. The review was written 2 YEARS AGO. What’s the point in having an out of date review as the first review. The people who run this whole App site need to sharpen up, you aren’t doing you customers any favours. ### 3/5 — Looks like it might be awesome... Super interested *2017-12-28* I downloaded this and I LOVE that it runs free but the add overlay is so intrusive I cant even run to to the point where I can make the choice to buy or not. There should be a way to shut it off for maybe a week or a month. Let us see what these features you want me to purchase include! Then you might get me to buy it. Yes, thanks for the response... the add overlays the text entry fields so the app is unusable. I am on a iPhone 10. **Developer response:** Hi there! Thanks for using the app and submitting feedback. I definitely don't want the free version to be difficult to use. Are you saying the ads are intrusive? They should stay up at the top of the app and never intrude. If it's acting differently, I definitely want to change that. Is that what you are seeing? As for the notifications upgrade, I have considered adding the ability for a trial, maybe I'll look into that again. Thanks for the feedback! ### 1/5 — Be warned *2017-12-22* I really wanted to give this App 4-5 stars, after listening about it on Improve Photography. However, there are fundamental problems with it, namely the source data that gets used can only be accessed by a certain number of people, once this number is exceed the App doesn't work. Well at least from the UK. I've had the App three days, tried accessing it, at various times through through those days, but only managed to access it once. On the occasion I did access it I saw some worry data, namely, highly repetitive 'cells' of data across large areas. I found it hard to believe. Bottom line, I'll keep trying, and hope things get better. ### 1/5 — No map or data *2017-12-20* Installed this app after listening to the interview on the improve photography podcast and even after multiple tries there is absolutely no data being downloaded and the map is blank and there's nothing I can do about it. **Developer response:** Hi there! I'm so sorry you've hod a poor experience so far. Unfortunately, sunsetWx limits the amount of data per day and we have been running into that limit ever since the podcast. The limit gets reset every day, so the best possibility to see the data is later in the evening or early in the morning (assuming you're in the US). I've also been working on some performance improvements, but Apple isn't accepting app changes over the holidays. I really hope to have this fixed soon. Thanks for trying it out! ### 3/5 — Good Concept, But Needs Polish *2017-09-09* I like the concept of this app - it saves me from having to check the SunsetWx website every day. However, map navigation is laggy, it will only zoom out to a certain point (can't see my entire state, let alone a whole region), and for some reason I keep getting prompted for my iTunes password when using this app (I am logged into iTunes and no other app does this). I did pay for both in-app upgrades before testing the app (my fault), but I expect more from such a relatively expensive app. A nice feature addition would be a customizable range for the notifications. For example, if I don't mind a short drive, it would be nice to know that there's a much better sunset 30 miles away. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — New update lost subscription *2026-06-15* This is a 5/5 app for me, but after the last update, not only were all my locations lost, but it is shows I lost my access to my Pro subscription. I cannot restore purchases subscriptions via app. Through my iPhone settings, it says I’m subscribed. Please help! ### 1/5 — Worked well until I upgraded *2025-06-30* Completely malfunctioning ever since I upgraded. Can’t load new locations, can’t reset settings, tried restarting phone and reinstalling app, still doesn’t work. ### 1/5 — Not working *2025-06-12* It seems the app is not working anymore for some reason. That’s unfortunate ### 1/5 — Pointless *2024-08-12* I wanted to love this app and I get that this is not an exact science, but the same thing happens every time I use this app. I check for sunsets two days in advance and make plans for photography. If I see a 70% chance of a good sunset, I plan on going to that location. Almost every time, when that evening arrives, it changes to 20% or less. Last night, as I was staring at a grey sunset, the app was telling me it was a 65% chance of a good sunset. How about a 0% chance? Thank goodness I did not pay for this. It is being deleted. I am tired of wasting my time on this useless app. ### 1/5 — False predictions *2024-08-08* We attempted to use this app while in the Pacific Northwest and it was completely inaccurate. It would forecast a great sunrise or great sunset but change within 12 to 24 hours so you’re not able to plan any locations for photography. Quite disappointing. ### 1/5 — Add Location feature does not work! *2024-03-30* Hi Emily, multiple people on here have been complaining about the add location feature not working. I don’t see a follow up or response to any of them. When is this going to be fixed? I paid for the pro version and it isn’t a friendly experience. Feedback requested. ### 1/5 — App is useless since new update *2023-12-05* Can’t add additional locations anymore. Only shows current location. ### 1/5 — Great idea, bad implementation *2021-02-08* It may have to do with the way that the SunsetWx data is processed, but I saw, as other did, wildly different data with small movements on the map. The UI is “okay” and I’d say it works fine if the information being displayed was accurate. Sometimes you just see a giant circle that indicates a GREAT sunrise/sunset, with a low score, but then a small swipe and it’s gone. Something I noticed was that the highlight always seems to have an “X” pattern to it, highest in the center. Just doesn’t help me. Cancelled trial and deleted the app. ### 1/5 — The worst *2020-08-28, version 2.1.12* Drove 45 min to a sunset spot as the app said 73% for the sunset. We got there and it was pouring. Huge thunderstorm. Spoiler alert: there was 0% visible sunset. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2018-09-24* No update from Dev except “working on it” for ages. Thank you very much for a wonderful app. ### 5/5 — Just wow *2023-09-17* When I first came across this app, I looked at it as a backup or confirmation to TPE and considered it to be more as a curiosity than a serious app. When TPE began to give me spotty results this year I decided to give MySunset a second look. All I can say I I wish I had done so much earlier. I live in the DC area and it’s batted 1.000 for me this year. It’s been so good, I’ve traveled as far as Gettysburg or Fredericksburg (70 or so miles) based on its predictions (80% or higher) and I’m 1000% satisfied with the results. It has been simply outstanding! The map is buggy and inconsistent and the colors change when you zoom in and out. (I have no idea…) Yes, highly irritating but I’ve learned to ignore it completely when I realized how good the tabulated data are. If you’re into sunrises and sunsets I can’t recommend this app enough. Wish I could post photos. Give it a try! ### 5/5 — My go to photography app *2023-02-17* This app has been amazing over the past few years I’ve been using it. So much data and information in one place. The map/predictions change frequently so I always double check if I am really looking to get some color. It’s reasonably accurate at predicting good sunsets/sunrises. I’ve only used the free version as I can’t justify paying a subscription for the pro version. If it was a one off payment like PhotoPills, I’d go for it straight away. ### 3/5 — Cool but only current location works *2024-02-06* Really cool but I can’t seem to add any locations. I’ll type something in and locations will pop up as I type but when I click on one nothing happens and it still only shows my current location.
