Decent when it works. Half the time the app is stuck on the logo splash screen. Lacks a lot of features and often opens in-app browser to compensate. So why the two-star rating if I’m saying that? Well… the performance is a big issue. The app lags a lot—and I mean, really badly. It gets especially frustrating when I’m trying to add anime to my list, only for the app to completely shut down after five minutes (or more) of use. Then I have to reload it and start over, which gets annoying fast. I don’t think this is an issue with my phone—it’s fairly new, and all my other apps run perfectly fine. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t perform nearly as well. The app also hides all 18+ content so you have to use the website to track that. There also seems to be a memory leak somewhere because the app crashes after you open and close a bunch of shows (for example if you are looking for the English titles). The app starts slowing down and then content stops loading completely and then the app finally crashes. It takes quite a few shows to make this happen though, 50-100, and it usually lasts another 20 before crashing. ### 3/5 — Needs English Titles Option *2025-11-16, version 2.3.16* This really needs to have an option to display the English titles of anime and manga like their website. Login on web browser and it's there but try on app and its non-existent. Search on website via google and it shows on MAL. I literally login on website and added it! Yet its disappeared when I use the app and searching it doesn't come up. For those interested it's an anime caller 'Redo of Healer'. Sometimes I revisit my favorite series multiple times, and it would be great to have a counter or history log that reflects that. It’s a small change, but for fans who enjoy rewatching classics or rereading key story arcs, it would add a lot of value. Still, this app is one of the best out there for media tracking. It has all of the features that I really use, but it could use some slight improvements like advanced features. The ui, search, and anime news are all perfect and the app has no ads unless you want to watch a preview which significantly improves my rating for it. Lets you keep a log of which anime (and manga) you’ve watched, rate animes, find out about anime that are coming soon or in development, flag anime coming soon that you plan to watch and get notified when they are released (though not which streaming service carries them) and lots of info for every anime and voice actor. The database is very broad, and includes anime-style shows from outside Japan, and shows going all the way back to the start of anime as a creative medium are included, from the very popular to the very obscure. Very functional with a free login, if the paid version allowed a LOT more ‘favourite’ animes and voice actors to be chosen and I had the cash I would sign up for paid. I look up, update, or track anime with this app almost daily. (At the moment MAL services are undergoing maintenance (didn’t see any heads up about that, but oh well) so I figured it would be a good time to come over and do a review. ^.^) ### 5/5 — Needs Bug Fix *2023-04-22, version 2.3.8* I like the app and have been using it for a year or two now but recently a major bug has come up where the application will not open most of the time. It will just sit on the loading screen with “MyAnimeList” on the page and won’t open up to the regular home page. At first I thought my service was affecting it but I experienced the same issue on wifi in my home. Please fix as soon as possible as it rarely allows me to log on and do what I want to do. ### 5/5 — Pc vs mobile *2022-11-28, version 2.3.2* I’ve been using the app for almost a year now and I’ve had no complaints. I enjoy the socializing with other people as well as the base point of it idea. I did have no complaints until I saw the pc version of this and was surprised at the difference. I think it would be a good idea if you add more to the mobile version so it can keep up with the pc version ### 5/5 — Needs advanced options to match website *2022-11-20* Not much to say about the app, I like how it sorts things, how I can keep track of total time watched etc. everyone who uses it knows it’s basic but useful not only to keep track of what you have watched but also what you plan to watch or just heard about and want to know more about. One of the only issues I have is that unlike the web version that has advanced options when you are marking a show as “watched/completed/etc,” this app does not have a “rewatched __ times” section and other advanced options. I’d like to be able to do that on the app without migrating to the web version for seemingly no reason. I don’t see why you would have it available to anyone on the website but not for app users. Why not implement all features for both locations. It’s just convenience for users. That’s really it. Great app, would recommend for anyone who consistently watches anime and wants to keep track of what they’ve seen, how much they’ve seen whether thats per show, per episode or how many hours/days spent watching, etc. If devs see this, consider adding the advanced options for anime entries (and manga I guess) especially the rewatch counter (should also add the amount of time for that rewatch to your total time watched) -PS- Any anime nerds who partake in “communities” please stop being cringe for the sake of humanity. I’m looking at you MHA, demon slayer, etc fanbases. Stop cosplaying. It doesn’t work, you aren’t cool, and you presumably aren’t in Japan, so don’t act like it. Please check back soon for future updates! ### 5/5 — Wow! *2022-07-16, version 2.2* I have been using MyAnimelist for over a year ever since a friend recommended me this app it has made it so much easier to track anime I have finished watching, I watched but never finished, or an anime I dropped. Whenever your tracking anime to watch. You can also interact with forums asking about questions about a anime you watched though they can get pretty biased so I usually stay away from those. If you need something to track anime you watched this app makes it easier and I highly recommend it. ### 5/5 — Much better than I was expecting! *2022-06-08, version 2.2* Usually companion apps tend to be rushed, buggy, and ugly, but this app does not fall into that pattern! It is fast, awesome to look at, and it feels like I can do everything on the website on the app as well.
