## What is Mycelia?

Mycelia is a field journal for mushroom foragers. Photograph a find, name it yourself, and pin it to a private map that fills in over the seasons.

It does not identify mushrooms for you. That's the point.

FIND
• Snap a photo in the field and pin it to the map with GPS
• Name the find yourself — you're the one identifying it
• Location, weather, and days since last rain attach automatically
• Record quantity, habitat, and your own observations
• Your spots stay private by default

EDIBILITY IS YOURS
• Give each find your own label — edible, unsure, toxic, or leave it blank
• Mycelia never sets one for you and never checks one
• Reference material is shown as what field guides say, attributed rather than asserted
• Look-alike warnings name the dangerous confusions for a species and the one feature that separates them
• Your local poison-control number, one tap away on anything you've flagged toxic

REMEMBER
• Finds collect into a dated timeline, a by-species view, and a map of your spots
• Return predictions estimate when each patch is likely to fruit again
• Open directions straight back to a spot you logged last season
• Send any find to iNaturalist when you want a human expert to look at it

OPTIONAL: AI SUGGESTIONS
• Off by default. Turn them on in Settings if you want a second opinion.
• Suggestions offer species names to go and check — never an edibility verdict
• Offered only after you've written up a find yourself, never before
• With the setting off, no photo ever leaves your phone

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
• Your spots are yours. Nothing is shared unless you choose to share it.
• Sign in with Apple, Google, or email to back up and sync across devices — or skip the account entirely and keep everything on your phone
• Share individual finds with the community as cards, while notes and quantities stay private
• Delete your account and all its data from inside the app at any time

SAFETY
Mycelia is a notebook, not an authority. It does not identify mushrooms and it will never tell you that something is safe to eat. Mushroom misidentification can be fatal — always confirm with a printed field guide and an experienced forager before eating any wild mushroom.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.0 — 2026-09-08

Mycelia has changed its mind about one thing: who decides what a mushroom is.

It's you. The app is a notebook, not an expert — and this release makes that true everywhere, not just in the small print.

YOU NAME THE FIND
• Photograph a mushroom and go straight to your own field note. Nothing guesses at it first.
• The green button is now "Pin it" — it opens the camera and pins the spot, and that's all it claims to do.
• Home opens on your own foraging map once you've logged a few spots.

EDIBILITY IS YOURS TO SET
• Every find carries the label you gave it — edible, unsure, toxic, or nothing at all, which is the default.
• Mycelia never fills it in and never checks it.
• Where we hold reference material, it's shown as "what field guides say", clearly marked as theirs.
• Look-alike warnings are unchanged and still lead: they're the part that protects you.

AI SUGGESTIONS ARE NOW OFF BY DEFAULT
• Turn them on in Settings if you want a second opinion. Left off, no photo ever leaves your phone.
• When on, suggestions are offered after you've written up a find — never before.
• They return species names to go and check. No edibility verdict, and no confidence percentage dressed up as certainty.

SAFETY
• The poison-control number now matches your country instead of always showing a US line, and you can set your own.
• A one-time acknowledgement at first launch, so nobody meets this app without knowing what it won't do.

Mycelia does not identify mushrooms and will never tell you something is safe to eat. Misidentification can be fatal — always confirm with a printed field guide and someone who knows the species where you forage.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-28

Mycelia has been rebuilt around one question: what's this mushroom?

IDENTIFY FIRST
• Home now opens on a single Identify button — photograph a mushroom and get an answer in seconds.
• Today's finds shows what you've logged since this morning, pinned to a mini-map.

SAFETY BUILT IN
• Every find now carries a "Before you pick" card naming the toxic look-alikes for that species, and how to tell them apart.
• Edibility is labelled on every entry in your log.
• One tap sends a find to iNaturalist when you want a human to confirm it.

A SIMPLER APP
• Five tabs became two — Home and Collected — with the lens always in reach at the centre.
• Collected holds everything: a dated timeline, a by-species view, and your foraging map, all behind one switch.
• Private and Community finds share a single toggle, so it's always clear whose finds you're looking at.

ALSO
• Return predictions estimate when each spot is likely to fruit again.
• Share a find as a card, or open directions straight back to the spot.
• New pine-dusk theme.

Never eat a wild mushroom based on an app alone. Always confirm with an expert forager or a field guide.

### 0.9.9.11 — 2026-07-16

Mushrooms, meet your match. Now Mycelia IDs first and asks questions later — snap a photo, get instant guesses. Spot the deadly look-alikes, keep a Poison Control button in your pocket, and share your finds as swoon-worthy cards (spot stays secret ). A weekly field note gets its own screen, saving's quicker, and there are two fresh 'shroom-named themes: Chanterelle & Inky Cap. Never eat on an app ID alone

### 0.9.7 — 2026-07-15

Foraging is better together — 0.9.7 introduces the community.

• See what other foragers are sharing: flip the new Private/Community switch on the Map and your log, with live counts on each side.
• New map pins show whose find is whose — a lock for your private finds, people for community finds.
• Community finds now include full photo galleries: the mushroom, its gills, and the habitat it grew in.
• Share one find of your own to unlock the whole community feed — after all, you don't find mushrooms, mushrooms find you.
• New foragers start with a sample find to learn the ropes, and handy first-run tips throughout the app.
• Capture extra photos with automatic labeling and swipe through them on every find.

### 0.9.6 — 2026-07-14

• Return reminders — get notified when a spot's return window opens, now right from the Home screen and map
• Last rain at your spots — see when it last rained at a find's location to judge fruiting conditions
• Smoother photo capture with swipe gestures and easier keyboard dismissal
• UI polish: new add button on My Mushrooms and cleaner return-window info
• Bug fixes and small improvements
