### 1/5 — Unable to Explore Trails without being a Supporter

*2024-03-14*

My user experience was the following. I normally hike without any app on paths I know through word of mouth or reading online. I was in a different city, on vacation and heard/read about a couple of trails. I then tried googling them and found myhikes.org the companion website for this app (which looks like a great resource). I noticed there was a “Send to App” button on the website, upon selecting this I was prompted with a Become a Supporter. I decided to download the app regardless as I thought the sending of trails from the website to the app was the feature that was locked behind being a Supporter. As in the App Store description it clearly states explore x number of trails etc. I figured I would just search the trail in the app and be on my way. Once opened I realized this is not the case and you must import them from another source like the website. Which is where my user journey ended.

Kind of disappointing because the features I cared about are locked behind being a supporter. Maybe allowing for “sending to app” of one trail is something to consider so someone in a similar situation as myself (which I believe to be common) can find out if becoming a supporter is worth it.

This is an updated review to state more clearly why I gave it the review I did. As the developer stated in there response I cannot attest to any of the other features in the application and I apologize for stating it as “useless” previously. It just didn’t meet my expectations for it based on my understandings.

**Developer response:** Howdy Nicholas, you may not see this but as of v2.4.0 (launched in May 2025), MyHikes now has a free 7-day trial Supporter feature which allows users to explore all of the features, like downloading routes to the app. Previously launched, v2.0.0 MyHikes includes in-app search functionality, with filters, to allow users to browse trail guides in-app as well. Thanks so much for your feedback!

### 5/5 — Invaluable Tool

Finally! Trail maps that I can follow live. Thomas took one he should become my favorite hiking tool.

### 5/5 — Amazing hiking app!!!

*2025-08-30*

Perfect hiking app for finding and exploring trails wherever you are. I’ve discovered lots of new places and trails - me and my dog have really had a great time.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! Glad to hear you and your dog are enjoying the trails, happy hiking

### 5/5 — So Helpful!

*2025-08-05*

I stumbled across this app when looking for a new hike as a relatively inexperienced hiker.
The directions were so descriptive and clear that it made finding parking, navigating the trail, and knowing what to expect so much easier!
There was even a little bonus info about a great view just off the trail that was well worth it.
Highly recommend!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review and kind words! Very glad that the app is helpful to you, happy hiking!

### 5/5 — Good App!

*2024-10-26*

I like this app, it does what I need it to and is very easy to use. It has a nice and simple design.
I like the ability to create routes and save them. I wish there were some editing tools, such as being able to combine multiple routes into one and to name individual routes.
Bottom line it makes my hikes easier, and I would definitely recommend it.

### 5/5 — Good Alternative/Backup Hiking App

*2024-07-21*

I have now used this app a few times. It seems very good and does all the basic things I would want from a hiking app! I think it tends to overstate mileage and altitude gain (and although one can edit a track, I don’t wish to feel the need to edit). So with that one caveat, this app will be my second hiking app (to be used simultaneously with a more high profile and long establish hiking app).

**Developer response:** Howdy JPneus, thanks so much for the feedback and review! I'm really happy to hear that the app is working well enough for you, especially when compared to other well-established apps. Edit: I released v1.10.11 on July 24 2024 which addresses both elevation gain and total distance issues thanks to your bug report. Hope you find the update useful and happy hiking!

### 5/5 — Tracking works great!

*2024-06-06*

Used this app with no cell service in Rocky Mountain National Park while in the backcountry and tracked accurately for over 6 hours. I downloaded an offline map region before the hike and then got a bit lost along the way as the trails had minimal signage and multiple routes to take. The app displayed all possible routes and I chose the right one each time I got confused - without the app I would’ve been lost.

**Developer response:** Howdy Neeners1515, very happy to hear that the app is working well for you and as intended. Happy hiking!
