### 2/5 — App has not been updated in years; no sound for IOS 15

*2022-08-28*

I liked this app for years. But I recently found for iPhone and iPad running IOS 15 no sound plays. You can still load the script and it has the other functionality but won’t play TTS.

### 2/5 — Clunky UI; needs some tweaks for better usage

*2019-05-12*

Just used this to rehearse my lines for an audition by myself. I only had two pages of dialog, but they were from a screenshot, so I had to input them manually over the existing script. I used the voice to text of my iPad however, so it didn’t take long.

After figuring out the controls, and found the best way was to hide my lines and use TTS to play the cues. The pause/resume button is too small, and often I would tap it, but the TTS playback continued - very frustrating. It would be nice to have an “auto pause” after each TTS cue, and then simply have the button to tap to resume once you have recited your own line(s).

Haven’t tried logging in to upload a script. Can’t imagine having to use this UI for a whole script, but it worked for me for this audition.

### 2/5 — Alright

*2017-12-13*

I love the app but recently it keeps crashing. Please fix :(

**Developer response:** Thank you for the crash report. We release bug fixes every quarter.

### 4/5 — Great tool with great potential

*2017-10-16*

Yes, the interface can be tricky to navigate and, yes, preparing/importing scripts is a bit convoluted, but this app has helped me so much over the last couple years. I usually now just dictate scripts (even lengthy ones) directly into the app... I think of that process as yet another way of studying/learning lines. Then I assign voices and start working. I haven’t tried any other line-learning apps, so can’t compare. One odd thing recently: a few certain words like “it” end up being pronounced “eye tee.” Can’t understand why, but hope that’ll be corrected at some point. Of course, though, even hearing mistakes like that in your cue line actually makes it more memorable, which is the whole point.

### 1/5 — Kept crashing...

*2015-11-16, version 2.0.6*

I never actually got to see what the app is supposed to do, because it never ACTUALLY WORKED. It repeatedly crashed. Yes, I tried deleting it then downloading it again, and yes, I tried restarting my phone. Maybe it works for someone else...

At least it did one thing right- stealing my money! :)

### 1/5 — Want a refund

*2015-10-03*

I downloaded this app to help me learn the lines of the script I have been given to learn for my As drama.. However it will not let me create a script or download any scripts. I am very angry about this as I paid £1.49 for this app. I want a refund.

### 1/5 — Can't believe I spent $1.99

*2015-08-01, version 2.0.5*

They make you buy every script you need to learn! Don't they know that us actors are already broke? It is also very confusing to use.

### 4/5 — Wonderful

*2015-07-15, version 2.0.5*

Best way I've found to learn lines. Uploading and editing scripts could be more user friendly, but it's great once you figure it out.

### 1/5 — Worse app ever! Don't waste your money!

*2015-02-12*

I honestly wish I never purchased this! Worst £7.99 I ever spent.
The set up on the phone is so hard to follow and trying to edit the scripts is even harder! After spending endless hours writing up the script and the scenes I need to learn on word document on the computer and following the not so simple instructions on how to import the script after making sure it's set out the right way, I uploaded and can view it on the computer but when I go onto my iPhone to check the script it says it's not there! I registered on the computer and again on my iPhone and it keeps saying I have numerous devices registered when in fact I don't, it's just the one phone. Then I email them as the help section is not at all helpful it only has a handful of facts and questions - no one replies back to me!
Please don't waste your money. This app is not worth it! It's highly frustrating and by the time you've written out your parts - you won't need this app to help you learn them as writing them out has probably sunk in!!!!

### 4/5 — Great app, but one big problem

*2015-02-07*

Love the app. I'm a New York actor who has used this for plays, scenes, and monologues. It works particularly well on mobile when used in conjunction with a computer to upload scripts to the web platform.

My big issue is with playback on voice recordings. Sometimes they work with headphones and sometimes not. For me, someone who does a lot of line work on trains, buses, plains, and subways, this is a big problem. Other than that, great and simple app that works wonderfully once you understand it.

### 1/5 — Won't let me register

*2013-10-16*

I just bought this app. It says my phone is registered for its product under someone else's email. This make the app unusable to me. Help!?!?

### 4/5 — Very good so far

*2013-07-26*

Purchased this app as I have three plays on the go at the same time. Once the play is imported to the web site and downloaded back to my iPad I love it. Only criticism is that I forget each time how to get it back on my pad and the instructions are not clear. Only wish is to highlight more than one part in different colours.

### 2/5 — It used to be ok, now it doesn't work

*2013-06-21*

The app was a great concept...distributing scripts to the cast and they can each highlight/black out their lines as needed. The interface was a bit clunky, and you had to either import a script from a vaguely described format or type it in manually to the app which was a royal pain. BUT, once it was in there, it was an extremely valuable tool!
Now, the web site has been down, which means no syncing to other actors. After upgrading to the pro version, I now feel a bit ripped off as I can't use the features that I paid for.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No pricing disclosures

*2023-05-08*

The free iOS app is limited to 50 lines of script. That isn’t disclosed anywhere. Keep it in mind before you spend all day reformatting your script to conform with their strict requirements on your pc.

### 1/5 — Can’t Sign In

*2019-05-07*

I’ve tried so many times to log in, I can’t. The app will not let me. I’ve deleted it, tried a new email, confirmed it, but nothing. Every time I try to log into the app, it brings up the pop-up and will not let me sign into my account. I can access it through Google, just not the app.

**Developer response:** Sorry for the delay. Just noticed this post. If you still are having trouble please email info@mylines.com if you need more information on how to correct the log in issue.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time with this app

*2019-01-02*

Seriously, it’s the worst. I just wasted two hours of my life.

**Developer response:** Sorry that you had a bad experience with the app. We are constantly making improvements and it appears that you wanted to use a PDF version of your script which is not supported by the MyLines app

### 1/5 — Doesn't work and no support

*2017-09-17*

I would not recommend this app. Number one reason: it doesn't work!

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2017-09-15*

I should have listened to most of these reviews where they said the app crashes because it does! Never even had a chance to use it! I have requested my money back.

**Developer response:** Sorry that the app crashes for you. We offer refunds. About once a quarter we release a new version with bug fixes. Our newest version is free for the first 50 lines.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2017-05-30*

This app keep continually crashing. I cannot input any of my lines. This is not worth $1.99! I'm getting my money back from Apple.

**Developer response:** Sorry that the app crashes for you. We offer refunds. About once a quarter we release a new version with bug fixes. Our newest version is free for the first 50 lines.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2017-05-05*

Apparently you have to create your own version of the script on your own computer in the exactly correct format before you can use it with this ap. I expected a library from which I could import a ready made script. Not so. Useless for me.

**Developer response:** In our discription it states that the app only works with correctly text formatted scripts not PDFs. We are adding new titles to our library every month.

### 1/5 — Really bad... don't buy

*2017-02-21*

Bought it to rehearse lines but was not good at all. Waste of money. I WANT A REFUND. Had to write out the whole script and it was too confusing to get it to actually read out. Horrible. Not worth 2p let along £2

### 1/5 — DO NOT BUY!!

*2016-09-20, version 2.0.6*

Useless, keeps crashing!! Cannot use!

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2015-12-21, version 2.0.6*

In order to have any script to memorize, you have to make an account on some website and pay for scripts. I understand this is your just grabbing scripts for fun but I'm memorizing a script I already have a hard copy of from school and I just need to write the lines into the app. Stupid app. Don't buy it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easy to use and one of the oldest and best.

*2024-12-30*

I’ve used MyLines for more than a decade and it’s been my go-to system for learning lines quickly and easily. It took some time to figure out how to import (what format, etc.) but then after I had a master file to use as a model, I find it easy. In the early days, I had a lot of emails to the support team and response was quick, detailed and always kept responding until I fixed my issue. I haven’t used the other features, but as an actor, the memorization part is perfect. I can bookmark problematic sections and go to them quickly with hand bookmark labels that make sense to me. Super great to use while waiting or have moments of spare time. Makes learning quick!

### 5/5 — Great way to learn lines

*2022-02-28*

It is often a challenge to learn lines especially in a long script with many actors. MyLines offers ways to filter out the scenes and characters. You can learn the script by scene, role or line. There is voice capacity. Highlighting is a great option. As a director it has been a great tool to offer to my actors who struggle to learn lines. See my write up of Stage pro as well because that is another great app and I give BIG kudos to the tech support.

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2020-07-06*

This app is a true game changer when it comes to ease of use and bang for your buck. If I can use it, anyone can use it. After purchasing, you simply select your script and voila! You can highlight your lines, edit your lines, hide your lines all with a quick tap. Your highlighted script goes anywhere you go on your phone. It is so convenient and much easier than recording an entire play as I’ve had to do with other line learning apps. MyLines is the best! You won’t be sorry!!

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2019-11-19*

I was looking for something to help Masons learn Ritual and have spent a week developing the ritual and uploading this.

The support received has been far better than I could have ever expected for a £1.99 app.

This app does what it says it does and in my opinion for what I was looking for, it’s very good.

Sure, things good be developed further but for £1.99 it’s outstanding.

Thanks Randy for the outstanding support.

### 5/5 — Quirky app that is my go-to for years now

*2018-10-20*

In terms of functionality for learning lines, this app is perfect. Gives you lots of options helps you at each stage of memorization. There is a huge learning curve to the interface, yes. And it force closes, yes (although the force closing is very predictable and I’ve never lost any work to it, so I’ve gotten used to it as just that one part where it force closes). But this app has become an indispensable tool of mine. Also I once contacted the developers about somehow only being able to download the free version from the App Store on a new device even though I own the paid version - they were responsive, helpful, easy-going and lovely.

### 5/5 — Amazing support - excellent app

*2018-06-06, version 2.0.12*

I’ve used this app for at least six years and love it. There’s nothing out there quite like it and it’s constantly getting improvements. If I ever run into a challenge Randy responds within hours or minutes. If you want to make the challenge of memorization much more efficient, get this app. It’s so nice to be able review lines, run cue to cue, etc. while waiting in line, commuting, sitting at home, just before hitting the stage. Thanks for a great app!

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2014-11-30*

I've used this app now for multiple shows and I am officially addicted. I love that it can select my role for studying and hide my lines when I am ready. I can also record parts of the script to listen to while I'm doing things in the house. Thrilled I can finally run lines by myself!

### 5/5 — Useful in my last show

*2012-10-28*

REVIEW OF MY LINES

Recently I appeared in a lead role in a play at a local theater. The challenge of learning my lines in a short period of time was abated by the use of a user-friendly piece of software called MY LINES.

This application was loaded on both my ipad and iphone thereby making the script extremely portable. Whenever I moved about my script was always with me, at places such as a waiting room or if dining alone at my table, while waiting for my food to be served.

MY LINES has features that afford you the opportunity to edit the script when necessary, highlight your specific lines and listen for audio cues. There are other features, as well.

I highly recommend this software to anyone needing to learn a script.

### 5/5 — I can run my lines with my phone!

*2012-10-22*

Awesome app. Not only do I have my script in my pocket at all times, I can save my voice reading my cues (mine saved just fine by the way...) and run lines with myself! My loved ones don't have to help (and keeps the plot a surprise for when they see me onstage). The other features were great too since I could bookmark just my scenes and study them from there. I see this as the future for actors for sure!!!!

### 5/5 — Smart Tool

*2012-05-28*

The updates made in 1.3 are so great! Being able to slowly see a line in redacted mode, or being able to see it all at once, is genius and such a great feature.

In my show there are characters that speak at the same time. With this new update, my lines or their lines are highlighted, depending on which character you are working with.

I appreciate the updates you've made, the great communication and the dedication to continue updating the app.

*********
Regarding version 1.2:

This is just what I've needed. No one in my family wants to help me run my lines. Forget 'em! I've got this app!

The only bad thing about it: your script has to be a digital file and upload-able to the website. If you aren't doing a Shakespeare play (many of his plays are already loaded on the website), you've got some typing to do.

Fortunately I found a copy of my script online so I only had to do a few minor tweaks to get it into the proper format for this app's website to convert it.

Had a few technical questions so I emailed the developer. Got an answer back in less than 24 hours. Sweet! And the suggestions solved my issue.
