### 3/5 — No notification features is annoying

*2026-07-15*

It would be nice to have a notification feature option to remind you when your books are due and not have to actually open up the app every time you remember you have items checked out to avoid fees, but you’d be surprised that this app doesn’t have it

### 4/5 — Update

*2026-04-30*

Overall the app is good it just want the audio book to also show what it’s saying to follow along with it.
If update possible that would be awesome!!

### 2/5 — Fix Server/Log On Issue

*2025-09-12*

please fix the server issues. i can never log on to see my account. its a blessing when it decides to work :(

### 3/5 — App won’t stay logged in

*2025-07-26, version 2.19.0*

Since the last update, the app won’t stay logged in. I have to enter my username and password each time I go into the app. I love the app but it’s very inconvenient not to be able to just open and use it. I hope this issue can be addressed.

### 3/5 — Log in every time?

*2025-03-30*

In today’s era of password reuse, it would be greatly appreciated if the app could either persistently remain logged in or support the use of password AutoFill (Apple has published a workflow for this). Logging in should be a straightforward process, not a time-consuming and challenging endeavor.

### 2/5 — Useful when it works.

*2024-05-16*

This app is useful when it works. The browsing could be better. And making our own list of collections would be nice.

The issue is when I click on a title the screen goes blank. I can't request to hold the book when this happens. It's been happening for weeks now. I had to log in outside the app to be able to request a hold and check location availability. I shouldn't have to do that. Hope this bug is fixed soon! 🙏🏼

### 4/5 — Really helpful

*2024-05-07*

I have been using this app for just over a year now and have not had any problems. I really enjoy the audiobooks and being able to save books in your “For Later” and “Completed” shelves. I have used the hold feature various times and they have the books at my preferred location within a couple days. The only things I would love to see from this app is the ability to filter books saved in your For Later shelf by available location, and an easier way to browse books by genre, rather than just typing in the name of a specific one.

### 3/5 — Beautiful but lacking

*2022-03-18*

Awesome concept. I really want to use it but having to log in every time I open the app is a pain. Please add a “keep me logged in” option. Otherwise, I just use the browser on my phone (since it has a password manager that auto fills my library card # and pw)…

### 3/5 — After system updates, this app is not working correctly

*2020-09-02, version 1.4.4*

After the recent system updates, this app is not working correctly. Takes long time to los and the location map just shows two libraries.

I hope you can work on it soon.

### 3/5 — Ability to filter broken by last update.

*2018-09-13, version 1.4.2*

I use this app all the time but with the latest update the “done” button for filters is now broken which prevents the filter from being applied...can no longer filter results. I have submitted steps to duplicate to the support email listed in the app.

Other than this it is a great app.

### 3/5 — Update issue

*2018-09-11, version 1.4.2*

Loved this convenient great app until the latest update. Now there are “refine” issues when trying to sort and filter on order items.... please fix!

### 4/5 — Very helpful and useful app! (But could be better)

*2018-03-22*

This app helps a lot to find library items and look up my account information. However to make this app better and make it stand out from the regular mySAPL website, another helpful addition such as the ability to add my library card to Apple Wallet or being able to pay for fines directly from your phone would make this app even more convenient for library patrons. The app also needs to be optimized for iPhone X.

### 3/5 — Glitchy app

*2018-03-16*

Glitches need to be fixed. There are times that the app logs me out/kicks me out. There are times when I cannot renew and item because it says my account is in use by the system. If I have an item out that has a hold on it by another person but other copies of the same item are available, I am not able to renew that item until a copy is reserved by that system too. Otherwise, a great app. The glitches just bring my rating down. They are annoying and frustrating and make this app user unfriendly.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes daily

*2025-09-09*

I rarely can use it because it ALWAYS crashes.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2023-06-06*

I’m able to log into my SAPL acct via web browser, but not thru the app. Tried it on both my iPad and phone. No dice. Junk App.

### 1/5 — Amazingly AWFUL!

*2022-02-07*

Just incredible! The whole entire San Antonio Public library system online is completely ridiculous, non-logical, non-intuitive, form not following function in any way shape or form. It’s virtually unusable. Wow! Just wow!

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2021-09-20, version 1.4.4*

Always crashes when I select For Later. Makes the app almost useless.

### 1/5 — Waste of Time & Tax Dollars

*2021-02-01*

1.) Slow load time. Safari will open library site in about 1.5 seconds. The app takes over 20 seconds.

2.) Why does it require location services? It's a good feature, but that might be why it takes so long to load.

3.) No landscape mode? Modern iPhones rotate with your hand of course. Portrait only looks like something from 2011 not 2021.

4.) App "Support" takes users to the Library homepage. (The latest books and library sponsored events.) No tech support if expecting link to help pages.

5.) Log-In Error: "Invalid barcode or PIN."

I have my library card in front of me. I doubt the problem is the barcode or number below it. Incorrect PIN? When was this app written? In 2018, a librarian helped me change my "pin" to an easy to remember alpha-numeric password. I have no problems logging in via Safari or second party browser.

6.) The app's feature, "Get PIN" simply emails a link to *reset* your PIN (password?) not retrieve it.

7.) In App rating opens up a draft mail to be sent to a gmail account. Seriously!

The e-mail address is *not* San Antonio (dot) gov associated with library, or even a (dot) org associated with community relations and events. I'm mailing some dude with a gmail account? Creepy.

Conclusion:

I hate to sound so harsh, but this app is an embarrassment. This is the best our library could do with limited funds? I guess so. That's a shame because the money could've gone towards more books, movies, and music. It could have gone towards community events to promote reading, education, and entertainment. Instead, library patrons seem to have been given an app that simply doesn't work as advertised.

Very regrettable. I hope the devs can salvage it.

### 1/5 — Worst app I’ve ever used

*2020-09-07*

This app is a complete waste of my time, the storage on my phone, and the money SAPL has spent on it. It’s obvious that the people who are responsible for this app put the least amount of effort possible in making it and keeping it running. Any respectable app I’ve ever used is updated at least every 2-3 months. This app was last updated A YEAR AGO. I understand that the biggest part of SAPL’s money is tax money, and that it is limited, but at the very least keep the app running as smoothly as possible with the available time and resources.

Everyone has a fundamental right to affordable access to knowledge. This app does nothing to make sure people have that right.

### 1/5 — Totally broken

*2019-01-17, version 1.4.3*

For whatever reason, the app doesn’t let me log in. It’s completely bugged out.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2018-09-17, version 1.4.2*

Gets stuck in a loop trying to enter your credentials. Totally unusable in its current version.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2018-02-22, version 1.4*

This app has always been glitchy, but now I keep getting an error message saying my login information is incorrect

### 1/5 — Please update

*2017-09-05, version 1.4*

This app, along with the desktop version, needs a major update. For example (and this is probably all that needs to be said), the resolution appears to be made for that of an iPhone 4/5. Also, asks for pin instead of password along with barcode. Very difficult for people who have just downloaded the app in 2017.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Better now

*2025-05-13*

Used to be logged out upon opening the app, but this bug was fixed, and so was the login error “Something’s not right! The server responded with an error.” Now I can use this app, it’s awesome checking out the selection of the SA libraries and having the ability to place a book on hold and read ebooks and control and own an account for a library.
Overall, this is a great app, Thank the city of San Antonio for willing to put in the effort and time to make this app so good.

### 5/5 — Good

*2024-08-16*

I love books

### 5/5 — love it

*2023-03-26*

I love this app!! It’s very helpful and I find myself referencing it a lot. The way it allows you to organize titles and it’s ease of use help me want to read and visit the library more. I really have no complaints other than mayyybbeee wishing there was a follow feature for other users, just so I can find books through other people who seem to have similar tastes. But it’s definitely an awesome app without it :)

### 5/5 — Always G🕕🕒D Hours for Wife & I

*2022-01-13*

### 5/5 — An improvement. Finally.

*2021-11-08*

Miles ahead of the old app. I don’t feel the need to open the website anymore to manage my books.

I still don’t understand why won’t you let multiple login sessions though. Signing in on the website kicks me out of the app and vice versa. There are ways to manage two sessions and keep it in sync. Hope to see that in future updates.

### 5/5 — Really wish more people got this

*2019-10-17*

Hey y’all this app is amazing just because not many people got it don’t mean it’s bad maybe it’s a bit glitchy but every app has its problems it’s very helpful with putting stuff on hold and you can put stuff you might read later on a shelf (virtual not literally)

### 5/5 — Great!

*2019-05-19, version 1.4.4*

Very helpful app!
San Antonio Public Library has tons of books, dvd, and audiobooks. This app is very well done

### 5/5 — Love it!!

*2018-04-11, version 1.4.1*

I absolutely love the SAPL app. It makes it extremely easy to request holds on books, check the status of my loans, and download e-books. Since downloading the app about 3 months ago, I am reading and being a more active patron of the library than ever before!!

### 5/5 — Just Discovered

*2017-10-27, version 1.4*

I’m so excited to have discovered this app. Can’t wait to familiarize myself with it.

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2017-07-13, version 1.4*

Very easy to use and lots of great features. I use this as my library card which saves me from having to carry another card around in my wallet. Putting holds on books is easy, as is tracking due outs and renewing items.
