I was expecting to relive one of my childhood fantasy moments by playing this game, but was surprised when I had discovered that this software’s volume-sound did not work. (So, I requested a refund…) now understanding that some memories in life were worth having, but certain moments you will never be able to relive or get back! No matter the cost. However, it’s really finicky on an iphone. I’m sure that’s because it’s just a straight port of the PC version and isn’t optimized for a mobile device, but sadly it’s just too hard to play in any serious manner. I’ll try it on my iPad and see if it’s any better, but if you don’t see this updated, that means it wasn’t any better. For nostalgia it’s kind of cool, but not worth $4.99 or even .99 for that matter as you’ll give up after a few minutes of exploration. Nope. Deleted within 5 minutes of opening due to graphics and game play being so much worse. Sadly, this is a poor port. First, it’s an iOS (not iPadOS) game, so the graphics on the iPad are grainy. Second, the navigation is the EXACT same as the original and doesn’t use any gestures. Thus tap to turn 90 degrees in that direction, tap to move forward, tap to activate something. Compared to other games, particularly The Room, Myst is lame. No zoom in, zoom out, just finger taps instead of mouse clicks and poor graphics. These limitations take away the enjoyment of navigating and exploring, which is the whole point of the game. The clues are hard, but there are so many guides out there if you really want to find them. I wish that there were puzzles and in-game hints (like The Room) so I wouldn’t use my bored frustration to go look for a guide just to get through it. I suppose it might be okay on the iPhone, but then you don’t get the immersive experience of the larger screen. Myst should either be kept as a laptop game, or updated to use the screen for more than just a mouse-click stand-in (and add some puzzles, in-game hints, something). I beat it fairly soon after buying it but I can always let my young family members play it when I see them. It's still fun to explore. Don’t get tempted to look up the walkthrough... you get so much satisfaction completing the game without it. If I can do it, anyone can. You just need patience. That’s what we all used to have to do with point and click adventure games before the internet existed. I got this game before real Myst was released but I still found the graphics to be great. Up to you what you want to do but if you choose the original version, the graphics are fine in my opinion.
