I am so frustrated that I got to what seems to be close to the end. There is an impassable glitch in the room behind the pool where are you cannot select any of the hidden objects to cross them off the list. I have restarted, deleted, reinstalled, etc. and it’s obviously a glitch in the game. So frustrating!! My guess is it is not compatible with more up to date systems. If you are using an older one, then you might be able to enjoy this game. Either way, I wouldn’t pay for it. If you are looking for a good puzzle point and click game, I would look up Blue Brain games, The house of Da Vinci. Now that’s an excellent game! Honestly, I’m sure it was a good game for it’s time. But Mysteries of the Past is nothing like House. Perhaps I should have read the reviews more and looked at some walkthroughs - but I didn’t. The premise is good but the game is super glitchy. Inventory is not very compatible with devices that don’t have a home button and the touchable areas are often too small. I was dealing with it anyway until the second chapter, where I literally cannot click the last item in a hidden object game. I even looked at the walkthrough to make sure I was doing it right. Clearly they have not QAd this game for the newer versions of iOS or for devices with a high resolution. Since it’s a paid game I would expect much better. Honestly a shame because the game itself is fun, but this port is just totally unplayable. What a waste. ### 1/5 — Frustrating Interruption *2020-10-25, version 1.0.3* This game was enjoyable with an engaging storyline until I got to the forest and then couldn’t find all of the hidden objects. Perplexed, I caved, and when I looked at a walkthrough, I discovered that I didn’t have the full screen option turned on in the game, and so some items weren’t even visible to me. The game would not let me turn on the full screen (there was apparently the option to do so, but when I clicked the button nothing happened), so I can’t finish the game, and I was just getting to the good part where the magic seemed like it was about to begin. I also noticed that there hasn’t been an update to this app in 4 years. I feel very frustrated and disappointed that I paid for a game I couldn’t even play all the way through and that I wasted so much of my time getting to the forest. I downloaded this game, because I had just finished The Da Vinci House by Blue Brain Games (absolutely incredible game) and expected that this game would be awesome since it was made by the same company, but not if you have a newer operating system. The graphics were great on my iPad Pro and I loved the hidden object games and puzzles. Either the problems others complained about have been fixed or they simply didn’t exist. I liked this game and I recommend it to you. ### 5/5 — Better than BF *2019-03-01, version 1.0.3* The bad reviews are unfair since they're in regards to an old glitch that was corrected. The game itself is a nice long length, fun puzzles, good storyline, and fun HOGs. I'm not a fan of HOGs in the first place...but this game made them bearable by using different styles (find pairs, place items into scene, etc). For context...I used to play every BF game that came out. But apparently, people complained about having to walk around too much in the game....so all BF games now find and solve inter-actives within the same scene. And half of any game is filled with HOGs. No brain or logic required. Just tappity-tap-taps. They lost a lot of gamers because of this. This game isn't difficult. And not a lot of walking or extended thought process required. But still better than all the developers that contribute to Bf games nowadays. And it was half price of BF games too. Good length, interesting puzzles, played on expert because I hate sparkles and did not need a walkthrough. The map has a helpful mark for where something needs to be done. Keep them coming. ### 3/5 — Mysteries of the Past: Shadow of the Daemon by LynxMinx *2019-03-02, version 1.0.3* This game was developed by Blue Brain, and I had never heard of them before. Obviously now I know why! This game had some redeeming qualities, but it certainly was not what I would say was fantastic. There were multiple difficulty settings. You were provided with a cohesive journal, which included notes, objectives and your map. The map could also be accessed from its own tab, and at least it was a marked teleport map which enabled instantaneous transport between locations. There were no morphing objects or collectibles, which suited me fine. The storyline was one we have encountered many times: an evil being stealing the life force of human beings to gain immortality. The graphics were of average quality, and at times it was difficult to find inventory items because they were so small. Inventory was labeled, but there were no complex items to assemble. The HO scenes had NO ZOOM feature, making them tedious to play, especially when items were practically off-screen! They consisted mainly of word lists, replacing items in the scene or finding pairs. The puzzles/games were mostly garden variety rotational types, jigsaws, and codes. Nothing was exceptional or extremely exciting. However the game was a decent length inclusive of the bonus adventure with a plethora of tasks to accomplish at each location. For the price it was a decent time waster. I didn’t encounter any glitches. However, this game seemed quite dated (no zoom, no complex items, boring puzzles and HO scenes) so to me it was merely average.
