Mystery Walks are an outdoor escape room combined with a mystery tour, and a fun social activity to do with family or a friend. For each one, there is a story with an overall mystery to solve. To do this you solve puzzles to unlock each direction of a walking route. Initially you'll have no idea where it's going to take you or end up, but you'll get detailed, well-tested walking directions and a live map that shows where you are at all times, which way you are facing, and the next location you're headed to. The route guides you through historic parts of Cornish towns or villages, often with spectacular views. Choose a mystery from a range of well-known locations across Cornwall. The puzzles also gradually build up a set of clues to solve the overall mystery when the end of the walk is reached. The puzzles are primarily designed for adults although children may enjoy helping to spot clues and helping to solve some of the easier ones. The puzzles vary in type (e.g. words, numbers, logic, or spotting things) and initial difficulty. Every puzzle also has a ladder of hints starting from harder and progressing to very easy to cater for a wide range of aptitudes. The walking and puzzles together typically take around 3 hours although this varies slightly with location (the summary for each one has more detailed info). Unlike an escape room, it's not a race so you can take your time, stop to take some photos, refreshments etc and have a relaxing day out. Once a mystery walk has been downloaded, it runs totally offline with no need for a phone signal or data/internet connection (it's designed and built in Cornwall to be Cornwall-proof). Exploring the town and learning along the way. Each one gives you about four hours of engaging entertainment in the fresh air whilst exploring parts of Cornish towns that you won’t have seen before, even if you are local I could write reams about the functionality, but why not download it for free and see for yourself? This one took us a little over 3 hours, a perfect activity for a cloudy day! ### 1/5 — Could be better *2025-08-02* In this day and age with technology, the user experience could be a bit more interactive. Felt a bit long winded for the price of a quest, which at £15 I felt was quite steep. Often taking you off piste away from main thoroughfares and my 6 year old got bored 1/2 way through. It might be worthy talking to local businesses to get them involved as a guy at the Stable I spoke to hadn’t even heard of this app. **Developer response:** As the app states, it's aimed at adults, so is probably not an ideal match for a 6-year-old. £15 for several hours entertainment for a couple or group is good value. It's an outdoor activity so the considerations are different from an indoor interactive game designed to be played in a low-glare, quiet environment with no distractions where there aren't stunning views to take in. The testers that have tried each of the mysteries found the balance about right. The routes are intentionally designed to explore some of the less obvious parts of coastal towns (typically earlier on a route) as well as the well-known parts (typically towards the end). ### 5/5 — Port Isaac, The Town Crows challenge *2025-07-11* Whoever put this mystery walk together is an absolute genius!! What a great way to explore a new area. The puzzles were challenging but not impossible and not patronising either. There was a few family arguments about who got the clue solved first and a few tears from our VERY competitive 10 year old when her sister beat her to it… but it was definitely a team effort that got everyone involved. We have never seen our 10 year old run uphill on a walk 😂 and she has declared it one of the best mornings of our 2 week holiday here in Cornwall from Scotland. Clearly this took a huge amount of effort, passion, imagination and local knowledge which is greatly appreciated.
