## What is Nagano Walking?

Nagano Walking is a timer for Japanese interval walking: a few minutes of slow walking, a few minutes of fast walking, repeated. It tells you when to switch with a sound in your earbuds — over your podcast or music, with the phone locked in your pocket — so after you tap Start you never look at it again.

WHY THIS ONE
• Cues you actually hear. A drum and bell, a singing bowl, or a spoken "Walk fast" / "Walk slow" plays at media volume through whatever you're listening to, briefly ducking it and letting it resume. Not a notification you might miss.
• Works with the screen off. Lock the phone, pocket it, walk. A lock-screen countdown and a "Walk fast" / "Walk slow" banner show where you are without unlocking.
• Pay once, own it forever. Try it free for 14 days or 10 walks — the remaining trial is always shown on the Home screen, so there is no surprise paywall. After that, one purchase unlocks everything. Never a subscription.
• Nothing to sign up for, nothing collected. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Your settings and walk count stay on your phone.

THE METHOD
Interval walking was developed and studied at Shinshu University in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The classic protocol is three minutes brisk, three minutes easy, five times — thirty minutes. Nagano Walking follows it by default and lets you adjust it: intervals from 1:00 to 10:00 in 30-second steps, sessions from 15 to 90 minutes. Every walk starts slow as a warm-up and ends on time, with its own completion sound.

ON THE WALK
• Big SLOW / FAST display with the set counter and time left
• Pause and resume; End Walk with a confirmation so a pocket tap can't stop you
• Optional halfway sound
• Choose the Japanese set (taiko drum and temple bell), the Singing bowl set (bowls and a wind chime), or spoken cues in English or Japanese — preview any of them in Settings
• A simple walk counter and the date of your last walk on the Home screen

BUILT SMALL ON PURPOSE
No step counting, no calories, no streaks, no reminders. It does one thing — telling you when to change pace — and does it reliably. Three screens, a few megabytes.
