## What is Name Days Norway & Calendar?

In Norway, most first names have their own day in the almanac, and many people get congratulations on it, birthday or not. This app is that name day calendar in your pocket.

The whole calendar ships with the app: 961 names across 363 days, with only New Year's Day, Christmas Day and the leap day left out. Today's names are on top, the rest of the year scrolls below, and search finds any name with a countdown to its day.

TODAY AND THE YEAR AHEAD
Open the app and today's names greet you first. Below them the whole year rolls on, day by day, so you always know who is next. Jump to any month from the top bar, and tap a name to read about it on Wikipedia.

YOUR CONTACTS
The app can match your contacts against the calendar and list when each of them celebrates, soonest first, with their picture from your address book. Anyone celebrating today sits highlighted at the top. Matching happens on first names, middle names and nicknames, entirely on your phone.

REMINDERS AND GREETINGS
Turn on reminders and a notification arrives at nine in the morning when a contact has their name day. When someone celebrates today, one tap opens a text message with the greeting already written, ready for you to edit and send.

A short built-in read tells how the tradition arose in the early church and how the Norwegian name day list got its shape.

### 2026.1 — 2026-07-31

The app is rewritten from the ground up as a native app for iOS 26, and now speaks English as well as Norwegian. It is faster, works properly on iPad, and the name day calendar is refreshed against current official sources.

Turn on reminders to get a notification on the morning a contact has their name day, and send them a greeting from the same list with one tap. Contacts now show their picture from your address book.

I denne oppdateringen kommer to etterspurte funksjoner og litt enkel vårrengjøring:

- Navnedag gjør det nå mulig å søke etter akkurat det navnet vi leter etter. Og det er flott, siden det finnes så mange fine navn i Norge.
- Nick! Appen har nå også kommet seg inn i 80-tallet og vi kan nå se når en venns nick har navnedag. Wicked!
- Og en del tekniske rettinger og forbedringer.

### 2020.4 — 2020-08-31

Lovte tydeligvis mer enn jeg kunne holde sist, men i denne versjonen får dere:

- Høstmørket kom for raskt og listeoverskriftene i mørk modus var helt svarte. Beklager dette og skal har i denne versjonen større tro på sommeren.

Den nye fantastiske funksjonen er straks ferdig, men i mellomtiden måtte jeg bare fikse mørketidsproblematikken.
