### 4/5 — Limited default oscillator waveforms

*2026-03-23*

It’s a really fun tracker. Make more waveforms available for use with the default oscillator. I want to see more waveform options that can be used as default oscillators, sine, triangle, sawtooth, noise, etc.. The sounds are limited using only pulse/rectangular, but I guess it’s possible to load sound files that sound similar to a generated waveform. The output from sound file will probably create interference or imperfections.

### 4/5 — Crashes

*2024-12-22*

It’s great app, but it often crashes on IOS18 and iPhone 13 Pro

### 4/5 — Amazing idea creator!

*2020-10-22*

Very small learning curve for people that understand ADSR and synthesis / sequencing at a general level. Getting “quick” at plowing down an idea on this app takes practice as you develop the muscle memory, like any musical interface.

Love everything about this app! It provides just enough to feel basic while surpassing something like a “toy”. This app is capable of generating full length, semi-mixed tracks. Or layers. Or one-shots. Really capable.

Until you want to export. EASIEST, SIMPLEST thing is just to save your .nan files for recall within the app, ignore every other glitchy option, AND

RECORD SOUNDS OUT THE IPHONE > dongle > auxiliary > 1/4” mono splitters > Interface/DAW/8track/vhs/whatever lol p

Maybe an in-depth guide to exporting could help.

Please though an update with levels & easier exporting would be so appreciated. I bought this and gifted it to someone, who doesn’t care too much because of how difficult it is to export on new iPhones. Love u guys and would gladly py for this app again if the end-game features worked as advertised. 💖

I swear I’ll press the same save twice and this app will output .nan usually with the occasional successfully sequenced .wav.

*2020-08-24*

### 3/5 — Saving broken?

*2020-05-28*

Loving the app so far, really dynamic synths and easy to pick up and sketch. I think the save feature is broken though, it keeps crashing when I hit the save menu.

### 5/5 — Amazing Little App

*2020-05-15*

I am far away from being very competent in electronic music, but nano loop is so simple that it’s terrific for just playing around a little on the one hand and learning more about synth waves and the power of tweaking sounds with just few options on the other hand. And the look is just amazing. And it even features a sampler, how cool is that? One of my favourite apps, and one of the single apps I spend money for. Love it!

### 5/5 — Best iPhone Instrument

*2020-03-04*

Thanks to the super-smart UI, the most usable “all-in-one” groovebox I’ve found for iPhone. Seems limited at first, but each of the sound modules has real depth! Comparison to the Elektron workflow is accurate, as some have stated before.

My one gripe / feature request would be to improve the “looping” mode in the sequencer. I’m much more likely to want a 2-bar pattern than a 4-bar. And maybe I want 3 or 5? I know I can copy paste, but this doesn’t really work for live performance / kills the vibe when composing. A simple slider interface for number of bars (1-8) would be much better.

Also while we’re complaining, maybe a filter for the sampler module? ;-) pretty please (would make sampling straight from the mic a lot more usable).

Again, lovvvve this app, literally making an album entirely in nanoloop right now!

### 5/5 — Awesome app! But needs a few things...

*2020-02-24*

Having trouble playing samples. I upload .wav files into file sharing through iTunes to nanoloop, but not all samples are available. I know you guys are working to fix this due to sample rates. They populate into the load browser, but do not play or create a waveform. Please fix!

Also, can you guys add a sample slicer that chops to pads? Doesn’t have to time-stretch. But I think this would be an awesome addition to nanoloop.

### 5/5 — Incredible, Powerful, Simple and Free!

*2020-01-12*

Such a beautiful minimal appearance! The app designer should get a prize for how much functionality is packed into an uncluttered and easy to use interface. Completely usable on my tiny iPhone without any difficulty.

Rest assured that it’s not a toy, though. I actually prefer this to more full featured sequencers because of the all in one interface design in which all note parameters can be adjusted from the main grid. 👏👏
The learning curve was not too bad, even for me (I have the bad habit of refusing to look at any documentation).

If there’s one tiny con, it’s that there is no way to get a satisfying drum sound easily, the ‘noise’ mode is okay for this, but a dedicated choice would have been nice. But ... for other instruments, it has both PWM and FM, and they can be layered! The decay shape is not changeable, but that would be another control, and perhaps it’s not worth it to clutter up such a clean interface.

TLDR: Get it, spend some time with it, and you’ll love it!

### 3/5 — Frustrating

*2019-08-18*

It’s really cool when it doesn’t crash, which is about 50% of the time. After that, you have to open it about 15 times before it will stop crashing for awhile.

### 5/5 — My favorite music app!

*2019-04-15*

This thing is so much fun, I was so sad to see the sample recording feature broken with OS updates but looks like they updated to fix it, YAY!!! A little bug exists where when I first open it, it comes out of the earphone rather than the speaker. Thanks for not forgetting us!

Update: New version seems to have fixed everything and is a delight. This is likely my favorite app for mobile music creativity. Couldn’t possibly recommend this enough, not just for chiptune stuff, the sampler is in a world of it’s own!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing

*2024-11-30*

Would have it’s limited uses if it didn’t crash every other time I opened it on the latest iOS

### 1/5 — Saving doesn’t work on iPhone

*2023-04-23*

The app installs and functions on my iPhone and functions just fine, tricking me into putting time into making a song, but all file system functions fail silently. It works on my ipad but quietly does nothing on iPhone. Meaning that making a song is pointless.

The sound is bad it makes strange noises...

### 1/5 — Crashes upon opening

*2019-10-19*

Unusable

### 1/5 — No sound

*2019-03-30*

Doesn’t work anymore

**Developer response:** I'm sorry for that. A fix is on the way.
In the meantime, please use headphones (always recommended) or record a sample and tap the stop icon. This resets the sound setting to play through the speakers (rather than earpiece) and bluetooth speakers / headphones as it should.

### 1/5 — Cannot remove notes from the séquencer

*2019-03-12*

iPhone 8 iOS 12.1.4

Adding notes hors without problem but removing them does not work most office the time. Please fix!

### 1/5 — No sound

*2019-02-21*

You did a so called update (??????) . There’s a faint sound .... it was an interesting app , but you mess it up .... hope you’ll rectify the situation (????) . R pilon

### 1/5 — Too retro and minimal for me

*2019-01-25, version 3.26*

Also, iPad refused to access microphone so no sampling possible. Very fiddle and MIDI sounding. There’s way to much great tech available to have patience with something like this. Kudos to Doc Pop for making an explanation video... I get exactly what the app does even though I can’t get it to sample. Hard pass.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Please revert to previous version!!

*2026-01-05*

Something changed in the last update and the sounds arent the same now!

### 5/5 — Finally I can mix up that good good

*2025-08-10*

I love this app! Easy to use, fun to sample and mix, and an overall booming blast!

### 5/5 — As good as the gameboy one

*2024-10-13*

This app is a very nice and fun sequencer, takes a bit of time to get the hang of it at first but once you get it its very easy to make a nice sounding little track

### 5/5 — So epic

*2024-10-12*

This is a long time favorite. There’s really nothing like it, so much fun, never glitches, never crashes, always ready for the job!

### 5/5 — really good

*2023-12-29*

I like this sounds great pitch effects sound great nice looking user interface, able to make some drumnbass on this, awesome music program

### 5/5 — headphones

*2023-12-10*

Bluetooth headphones on the latest generation iPad air do not work

### 5/5 — Simple but great synth/sampler with a rich history

*2023-02-28*

It’s great to see this available on iOS. Nanoloop has a long history that AFAIK started with Gameboy and now available on iOS. It’s a unique music synth with sample loading support and once you get used to the work, makes you create really interesting music and works well for live music making. It’s deceptively powerful. Glad to see it getting updated to work with new iOS releases and hope that continues.

I still have my game boy cartridge from decades ago and every now and then start it up on my game boy - touch screen is nice, betters are better!

### 5/5 — Welcomed update

*2023-01-17*

Thanks for keeping this app alive! 👍🏻

### 5/5 — Awesome little app and now the file system is working as well

*2023-01-15*

I love this little app and with the last update the iOS filesystem is working fine. Thanks so much for this update.

### 5/5 — My favorite inspiration tool on iOS

*2020-11-24*

Nanoloop is the first app I pull up when I want to get something down quickly. What I love about this app is that I don’t need much of an idea to get started, just start plopping triggers on the grid and start tweaking parameters and I’ve got something I like in no time.

What surprised me most about this app was how deep it is. It can be a bit confusing at first, but if you spend some time with the interface, things will start to click and you’ll realize how well thought out this app is. It keeps you focused with out being bogged down my too many options. However, the step-based parameters offer a whole world of sonic options.

My only wish is that I could use this send the midi out from Nanoloop to other synths or at least play nanoloop within AUM. Still this app is an amazing standalone groovebox optimized for the iPhone.
