### 3/5 — I really wanted to like this app

*2026-07-29, version 2026.6.1*

I really appreciate that they have a free trial, and the app looks cool overall. But I tried for 20 minutes to get it set up, and just found the settings to be really confusing and tedious. The comment sections under posts ended up just looking like walls of texts so I was trying to figure out how to show people’s avatars. I also found it difficult to find my notifications. So just decided to give up on this app, but I really wanted to like it.

### 4/5 — Great App Be Warned Though

*2026-07-17, version 2026.6.1*

Reddit won't allow third party apps to update like the regular app. So no, you won't see a refreshed home page. Plan on every hour or two before refreshing. Blame Reddit for that.

### 2/5 — Album scrolling

*2026-07-10, version 2026.6.1*

Crazy that the terrible reddit website manages to support horizontal scrolling of album pictures without opening a post and this app defaults to just hiding the post. What lovely usability

### 3/5 — Needs Gallery View Mode

*2026-06-30, version 2026.5*

I need a replacement for the official app that has a media-only gallery view mode for subreddits. Narwhal interface isn’t different enough from the official app imo.

### 2/5 — Lame

*2026-06-23, version 2026.5*

Can't get any NSFW subs to loads and there is no way to contact support.

### 5/5 — 12/10

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

I would have stopped using reddit if it wasn't for this app!

### 5/5 — Good when working

*2026-06-06, version 2026.4.2*

It’s a 5 star app when working but lately on and off over the past few months it will say no posts found on any page. The current streak is 4 days (correctly and so far). I can’t seem to give feedback other than here so please find the issue and fix it. I’ve decided to cancel the subscription and delete the app seeing as I cannot use it.

Edit: they have released an update for this. Prompt. Hopefully it works well again

### 3/5 — Signed up for a free trial, charged anyway

*2026-06-03, version 2026.4.2*

I signed up for a free 7 days trial, tried the app for five mins, decided it wasn’t for me and then, as I went to cancel, discovered I had been charged a full months subscription already. Hope happy with this practice

### 5/5 — Only reason I use Reddit

*2026-06-02, version 2026.4.2*

This app is worth the money, hands down. If you use Reddit, this app is for you. It’s so easy, institutive and customizable. Give it a try!

### 5/5 — Best in class

*2026-06-02, version 2026.4.2*

Love this app - I doubt I would be able to use Reddit without it. Lots of options to customise and get everything perfect

### 5/5 — Long time sub - this isn’t worth it anymore.

*2026-06-01, version 2026.4.2*

UPDATE: This issue isn’t due to the dev. Wasn’t aware Reddit made further API changes. Rating has been adjusted.

Constantly getting hit with the “no posts found” screen. Doesn’t matter if it’s the home tab or a subreddit I follow. I noticed this issue awhile ago and now it’s becoming more frequent. Unsubbed.

### 2/5 — Good when working

*2026-05-30*

It’s a 5 star app when working but lately on and off over the past few months it will say no posts found on any page. The current streak is 4 days (correctly and so far). I can’t seem to give feedback other than here so please find the issue and fix it. I’ve decided to cancel the subscription and delete the app seeing as I cannot use it.

**Developer response:** Hi. Unfortunately, Reddit recently made a change to their API where you must be signed in to a Reddit account in order to use the API. By chance were you trying to use Narwhal signed out? If so, you can create a reddit account and then sign in and everything will work again.

### 5/5 — Best reddit app hands down!

*2026-05-30, version 2026.4.2*

It does require a subscription but it is cheaper than what reddit offers and the app is way nicer and highly customizable. Definitely worth the money.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — you MUST pay for using

*2026-08-06, version 2026.6.1*

Free until 5th slide, then there’s no option to use it if you don’t pay ANOTHER subscription pro

### 1/5 — Wanted to love it

*2026-07-19, version 2026.6.1*

Card -> condense is apparently no longer a thing. Can’t hang with this density. Spent 30 min looking at options. Am I missing something?

### 1/5 — Stop. Muting. Audio.

*2026-07-17, version 2026.6.1*

Every time I open the app, it pauses my music. This is so irritating and it’s been a bug for longer than I can remember.

### 1/5 — Very Short Trial period

*2026-07-16, version 2026.6.1*

The app is fairly useless and a worse experience than the official reddit app. Not worth 4$ a month to not get ads. The UI is less intuitive.

### 1/5 — Paid app

*2026-07-02, version 2026.6*

Gotta pay to use. Useless.

### 1/5 — Paid Only

*2026-06-24, version 2026.5*

How soon as you download the app it asks you paid them for a pro account, there is no free version of this app FYI

### 1/5 — Subscription 👎

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

Deleted immediately.

### 1/5 — No posts found

*2026-05-29, version 2026.4.2*

No longer working. No posts showing up at all, despite constant refreshing and reinstalling. Thinking of letting my monthly subscription expire.

### 1/5 — dont download

*2026-05-22, version 2026.4.2*

you have to pay in order to use the app

### 1/5 — Requires subscription

*2026-05-02, version 2026.4.2*

Waste of a download

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The BEST way to access Reddit

*2026-08-01, version 2026.6.1*

I’ve been using Narwhal for just about as long as it’s been available. It’s always been a superior Reddit interface. It’s highly customizable and NO ads. The Reddit app is unusable now because of how locked down it is. They spoon feed you everything and so many ads! None of that here. Because Reddit charges for API calls, you have to pay a subscription but it is 100% the most worthwhile subscription I pay for. The dev team is responsive and truly wants to make the best user experience possible. Not only is it a great way to access Reddit but is also truly one of the best designed independent iOS apps.

### 5/5 — The only way to Reddit

*2026-07-29, version 2026.6.1*

The utility of Narwhal's editing tools paired with it's browsing capabilities streamline all engagements on Reddit.

### 5/5 — It makes Reddit fun again

*2026-06-28, version 2026.5*

Yeah you have to pay for it but it actually makes Reddit fun to use again. It’s hard to explain but the default Reddit client l feels like its guiding you to how Reddit wants you to use Reddit. Mostly to farm up more engagement. Narwhal doesn’t do that at all, in fact it lets you tune it for exactly how you want to use Reddit. What a concept.

### 5/5 — Better than the stock app

*2026-06-21, version 2026.5*

Far more customisable than the reddit app and a much more seamless browsing experience. The subscription cost to access the app is worth it in my opinion, especially as it is effectively half price the cost of premium in the stock app

### 5/5 — Phenomenal

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

Ignore John S, he’s a wanker. App is great and the only way I will use Reddit outside of Old Reddit on desktop never.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

I’ve been using this app for a few months, and I absolutely love it. It allows me to tailor my feed and make it what I want. I had a small problem with the app (totally on my end -not the app) and the dev was super-responsive and helpful. Worth every penny!!

### 5/5 — Simply awesome

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

A Reddit client that’s fast, has working swipe gestures and is super customisable with no ads. Freaking love it!

When the official Reddit client’s swipe back feature broke, I had to go check out what Narwal was about. I regret not doing this earlier. I’ve grown so used to wading through the apps and the bad UI in the official app, that I felt like this was missing 1/3 the content. Turns out those were just the adds and games and whoever Reddit decides to push onto their users that day.

This is slick and clean and void of the mess. I love the little preview section when adjusting font sizes so that you can see exactly what you’re resizing and the video player with scrubbing! Amazing!!

### 5/5 — The best way to use Reddit

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

Narwhal has the smoothest browsing experience for mobile browsing. Super customizable, easy on the eyes, intuitive gestures, with a great community and dev who is super responsive and active making the app even better.

### 5/5 — Best Reddit app period

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

100% reccomend. Developer cares, software is excellent, updates are frequent, they go to bat for the users unlike Reddit themselves.

### 5/5 — The best Reddit app!

*2026-06-08, version 2026.5*

This app makes browsing so easy. I especially like the mind-boggling amount of customization options. The dev is easily reachable in its own subreddit, and very attentive to users’ concerns and suggestions. The app is constantly improved, and I like the fact that they communicate if there’s any issue arises via app startup screen. Worth every penny.
