### 2/5 — Disappointed…

*2024-08-29*

I love everything National Geographic, every since I was a kid I loved watching shark shows and snake shows. And I recently got a new tv, a Samsung tv, and I swear I tried for hours with the rest of my family to get the Nat Geo app to connect with the tv! But Samsung tv isn't necessarily a “tv provider” but I am subscribed to Disney and max and all of that stuff, and there is no way to stream from the app onto the tv! And now I just found out that they are getting rid of the app! So now I will have practically no way to watch the shows I love, very disappointing. Me and my family are dreading September 23rd.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Thanks for your review! Locked content can only be played if you're signed into a supported cable provider. In regards to your other comment, as of September 23, 2024, the Nat Geo TV app will no longer be available on mobile devices and connected TV. However, all your favorite shows, specials, & live TV offerings are here to stay! ### 2/5 — You’ve lost this viewer

*2024-03-03*

I’ve streamed National Geographic channel for years through my cable network. Lately I have to delete the app and re add the silly thing. For some reason it won’t acknowledge my cable provider unless I start from the beginning. I do understand that I could make my own account within the app but I’m tired of app providers selling my info. ( yet another way to make money off of me) This will no longer be a problem for me because I’m unable to watch the shows I used to stream. I work when my normal shows air on my cable network. Unless I purchase the additional streaming service ( even though I already pay for National Geographic through my cable network) I’m unable to watch the shows I would like to watch. Basically I would be paying for advertising for one channel to two separate providers. I’m done with National Geographic and also will not renew my subscription to the magazine. It was nice knowing you when you were more interested in imparting knowledge instead of making a buck. Edit. For some reason now I’m unable to access any shows through your app. I used to have to delete the app and reinstall the app to be able to view shows. For the last few weeks I’ve repeatedly been shown that you’re experiencing “technical problems” . No matter what I try, I don’t seem to have this app’s secret pass word. I wish the app was even half as good as the shows. I now call this Firetrucking National Geographic.

**Developer response:** Hi there!  Thanks for your review! Locked content can only be played if you're signed into a supported cable provider. ### 4/5 — fails to load articles that are sent as notifications

*2021-09-13, version 10.16.0*

I’m a subscriber of National Geographic and this app is VERY disappointing. I frequently get notifications of new NatGeo articles from my Apple News feed and when I click on the notification the app launches but the article doesn’t load. Developers need to spend more time testing. I’m on an iOS device with the latest version and the NatGeo app is current version. I don’t have any such issue with my other Apple News feed article - seems related specially related to NatGeo

**Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for your review! It seems there was an app mix-up when you left the comment! We are the Nat Geo TV app. For assistance with the Nat Geo TV app we can be reached here: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/feedback

If you're seeing any issues with the Nat Geo Magazine app's performance, we recommend reaching out to their Technical Support team at ngp.appsupport@natgeo.com.

### 2/5 — Great Content Plagued by Ads

*2021-08-06, version 10.14.0*

❤️Love the content and would gladly pay for an ad free experience. 5 ad slots for a 30 minute program is a bit much. Maybe cut it down to 3? it would help the programming flow better and make me more likely to support the companies that are being advertised to me. 💰I’d also likely choose to frequent the Nat Geo app more often.

I’m very appreciative of your programming 🤩

### 4/5 — Some minor problems

*2021-04-20, version 10.11.1*

Honestly, I love this app. I have been using it for a while and think it is amazing. However, I gave it a 4 star review because I am logged out of my account for absolutely no reason. So far it has happened 3 times in the past couple of weeks. If this issue can be fixed, this app would definitely be 5 stars.

### 3/5 — Good shows bad streaming

*2020-12-29, version 10.7.0*

This app is always crashing before a show is over and then you can’t get back to that spot without rewatching at least 15 minutes of the show... which I usually just shut it off at that time. This app needs a lot of work before it will get anything over 3 stars from me. I really just want to watch a whole episode of a show with no crashes!

### 3/5 — Not all seasons, not all shows

*2020-08-15, version 10.4.0*

I don’t understand why there isn’t all seasons of some shows, disappointed. There are numerous shows not on the app and many were the reason I downloaded the app, Critter Fixers is just one.

The app itself runs beautifully on my phone (IPhone 11), but there is no reason to have it since it’s lacking in content.

### 3/5 — Poor audio

*2020-06-19, version 10.2.0*

previously I have enjoyed the Natl Geo TV app , but since yesterday the live feed on the Natl Geo Wild app is very bad. The audio is SUPER slow. It reminds me of when a tv news feed is trying to mask a persons voice. The other live feeds for Natl Geo west and east are fine.
I hope this is issue is being corrected soon.
P.S. I have changed my rating of the Natl Geo TV App.I appreciate that the audio problem has been resolved and I look forward to once again enjoying programs.

June 19th same audio issue once again.

**Developer response:** Hey there! Thanks for your review. There was an issue with the Nat Geo TV live feed but it's since been resolved. Let us know if you are still experiencing issues though: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/feedback

### 3/5 — But... I Don’t WANT to Watch “Barkskins”

*2020-05-27, version 10.2.0*

Why can’t I get past this advertisement? I don’t WANT to watch that show, but it seems like this app is trying to MAKE me, because I cannot click on anything else but “Watch Now” on that advertisement. Sorry National Geographic, I prefer to choose for myself what I want to view on your app. While I understand promoting new shows, please consider offering a CHOICE about whether or not one watches them.

### 2/5 — High school project

*2019-09-22, version 4.0.1*

For a major TV network this is a very poor excuse for an app. It’s EXTREMELY slow to respond to any touch features and can take a solid 5 seconds just to pause the show. It’s long enough to make you think it’s not working so you press it again and then it clears the screen of all features forcing you to start that all over. Now you’re 10-15 seconds past where you want to pause and looking at first rewinding before pausing.
And there’s no FF feature, which is incredibly annoying when you’re trying to binge watch a show and have to spend two minutes watching a recap of the episode you just watched.
I don’t understand why some network apps are so fantastic and some are like a 90s high school programming beta project. In 2019 it’s inexcusable to have network apps that are not top notch. Thankfully I don’t watch much on Nat Geo but this app makes me want to watch even less.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Thanks for sending us your review. If you're seeing any issues with the app's performance, then we recommend reaching out to our Customer Support team through the in-app feedback form under “Help”. ### 2/5 — Wonderful content ruined by constant ads

*2019-07-05, version 3.16.1*

I love the subject material, the photography and the content. But,I just cannot get through the constant distraction of Ads that totally destroy the programming. Does anybody really believe that these ads actually cause you to buy or watch anything in particular. They just cause your brain to go numb especially when you see the same ad three times in a row. So sad, I had such high hopes for this channel. I would rather pay to watch these programs without ads and to watch them free with ads. Back to PBS.

### 3/5 — Lacking Diversity

*2019-06-27, version 3.16*

Although many shows have diverse people and roles, the subject matter and story lines are lacking cultural diversity. I never really noticed when I was watching on tv but today I downloaded app and can clearly see this deficiency. Please expand, within app, the database of which I know National Geographic already has. For those really smart people, i am specifically referring to the shows or movies, and I am not referring to the animals or geographic territories.

### 2/5 — Login login login

*2019-03-07, version 3.12.5*

I downloaded this to watch Free Solo on demand on my Apple TV rather than wait for the rebroadcast, and I am pleased that the app allowed me to do that via my tv provider account.

I am displeased that the app made me log in repeatedly to watch, even though I used the app on consecutive days. I had to log in again once every day, and it even interrupted me in the middle of a show I’d been watching, even though I was authenticated 25 min earlier when I started watching it.

I am also very annoyed that the app requires you create an account with them in order to resume watching a show at the point where you left off. The app clearly remembered where I was, as the progress bar on the thumbnail of the show advanced each day, but it refused to let me resume unless I created an account with Nat geo AND allowed them to send me promotional emails. No thanks, I just made rough guesses where I left off.

The experience using the applet tv version of this app was so poor that now that I’ve watched the documentary I was interested in I’m going to delete the app. There’s just too many hurdles in the way of making this a good viewing experience.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — LAWLESS OCEANS

*2022-08-31, version 10.28.0*

I downloaded the tv app to watch this the Lawless Ocean series because I heard a second season was dropping soon. Well, coming to find out Nat Geo sold the rights to Apple TV to air Net Geo content; which in return Apple has the audacity (to charge you $3 for each episode and $15 for the season for content that should 100% be free w/ paid subscription). Talk about unfriendly business practices to cypher ever penny from loyal paying customers. I’m starting not to see a reason for Apple TV. You would think with plans for a new season of Lawless Ocean to drop Nat Geo would want easy access to their best content, but nope.

### 1/5 — You’ve lost this viewer

*2021-11-03, version 10.18.0*

### 1/5 — Worst Streaming App I've Ever Used

*2021-05-26, version 10.12.0*

There is virtually nothing to like about this app. The "My List" functionality is buried, the app doesn't follow the standard "episodes are displayed in ascending order", instead, you have to scroll all the way to the end of the list to watch the first episode of a season. Series don't play if a new season starts. Menus at the top don't activate until you click, breaking with every other tvOS app where simply hovering a menu entry activates that tab. You HAVE to sign up for an account to have continuity across devices. But the worst offender by far are the amount of ads you have to sit through. Even with a PAID Disney subscription, the amount of ads is incomprehensible, Disney is just bilking us at this point. I'm breaking the cycle and canceling my entire Disney suite subscription on principle alone at this point. Absolutely horrific app, and even worse policies.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t not work

*2021-01-31, version 10.9.0*

I have this app on my Apple TV and just spent over 30 minutes trying to get it to work. First of all it doesn’t work when you try to sign in with TV Provider. I deleted the app from my Apple TV, went back to sign in via tv provider and finally it let me click. After clicking “connect via provider” it took me back to “sign in with tv provider” and nothing happened, mind you this is after I deleted and reinstalled the app 3 times. Then I went on my iPad web browser and signed in directly from the NatGeo website I was able to log in. Went into setting looking for device activation and there’s nothing so I’m stuck watching via website. The app is a mess and does not work apple should remove the app from its store because it’s very misleading

**Developer response:** Hi there! Thanks for the review. Our Customer Support team would be more than happy to investigate the cause of those login issues you're seeing. We can be reached here: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/feedback

### 1/5 — TV provider sign in crash

*2019-09-12, version 4.0.0*

This app just updated on my device and just keeps spinning and resetting to access my fios acct. what I find ironic is that the instruction for how to sign off from your TV provider (which I was going to try in order to see if signing in again might solve this) gives very detailed, step by step instruction how to sign out-but the instructions direct you to menu options that don’t exist! Also navigation, which wasn’t great on the old version, seems worse here as there are few filters and labels.

### 1/5 — What a joke.

*2019-06-26, version 3.16*

So apparently some shows are truly free to watch, where you don’t need to sign in to your TV provider and input all your info. I saw 5 shows that didn’t have a lock icon. Yep, 5. And all of those were nothing I was interested in. Cute animals? Pass. How one woman will live forever? I’m good. Everything I was really interested in only had very limited access. That means, that while I could select an episode and start watching, I could only view a certain % of the total episode. For a 1:30:00 episode it was around 35 minutes, for a 44 minute episode it was around 3. Get commercials on it? Too bad, can’t skip, and it still detracts from your time. Utter waste of time. The Apple story about this app and the info the app has on its page are entirely misleading about what you can actually do with limited access. I wanted to like it, and I was so excited to see this app was a thing, but now I’m just kind of bitter and disappointed. Deleted after about 50 minutes.

### 1/5 — Crashes on Apple TV

*2019-05-29, version 3.15*

This has happened two days in a row, watching an episode and it will randomly bounce to the main Apple TV app icons (it crashed). Then close the app, checked for updates, and restart the Apple TV and every time you open it, crashes. The fix? Just delete the app, re-download, log back in, re-authenticate with hour tv provider and then it might work. If not repeat the steps and then it will probably work.

Please fix this, what a horrible app experience.

### 1/5 — Too many ads and the update stinks!

*2019-05-11, version 3.15*

I get it, companies need to make money and when it comes to tv that money is made through ads. I just don’t understand the need to place 5 or 6 ads for every commercial break. It’s ridiculous and most definitely not promoting anything when all I feel like doing is putting my device down during the break or (lately) just turning the show off. Thanks to the new update I can no longer stream forward and backwards through the show so if I miss something I’ve just missed it. You can’t even go forward or backwards by 10 seconds! If I choose to start the show over to see what I missed I have to sit through all of the ads again as well. Plus, the update now cuts off the last minute or two of the show so I never see the conclusion of the episode. All of these issues just seem to make the experience worthless. I love nature shows, but for all of this new trouble I can just go watch some documentary on Netflix instead without all of the issues.

### 1/5 — No longer Quality Shows

*2019-04-13, version 3.14*

I down loaded the app and was shocked how it had changed. 4 straight minutes of ads every 10 minutes. Instead of a charge to view they want access to your cable provider? That’s private information. Why would they think they are entitled to it? Just like the magazine, which I had for years........less content, lots more ads and opinions instead of articles and photos. Another good thing gone bad because of rich people wanting to get richer and spread propaganda.
Goodbye National Geographic.......time to bury your carcass.

### 1/5 — Ruined by greed

*2019-02-08, version 3.11.5*

This is a well-designed app ruined by deceptive marketing and greed. After it is downloaded, all its shows are available for free viewing for a couple days. Then, without warning, it requires a login to the person's TV provider, a kind of paywall. That's not unreasonable if it were announced upfront, but here's the worst thing: if you have the channel as part of your TV package and log in successfully, many many shows may still be unavailable (in a nontransparent way except clicking them one by one) because of something like "your TV provider has not made an agreement with us for this". In other words, Fox got greedy and wanted an extra fee and the TV provider refused to give in to the blackmail.

My father, in his 80s, loves this channel and was excited to get the app so he could also view shows on his iPad. In the end, he was frustrated and sad and we ended up deleting the app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — More animals, less humans and reality TV

*2020-09-11, version 10.4.1*

There are some of us that grew up watching Marty Stoufer narrate our animals in the environments that host them. And we enjoy the documentaries you provide. However , you’re producing more and more reality television and it’s alienating an entire era of 80s babies. Please save the culture in an effort to educate towards saving our planet. Not all of us wanna see fishermen in North Carolina go fishing.

### 5/5 — Favorite App!!

*2020-07-08, version 10.2.0*

I used to watch Nat Geo WILD all the time as a kid and I can’t help but LOVE the app! You can choose what you want to watch and it’s all free!!

My favorite show so far is The Hot Zone, I cant stop watching it! Although I find it kinda hard to pause the video it is still great!

I rate this app 11/10!

### 5/5 — Voice

*2020-06-22, version 10.2.0*

Thank you for getting this fixed so fast!

Why does it sound like a recording someone slowed from 45 to 33 speed? This is my favorite channel and I haven’t been able to watch for 2 days. Fix it!

### 5/5 — Great app but I want more seasons

*2020-06-17, version 10.2.0*

Great app however I wish there were more seasons of certain shows, for example Yukon Vet only has season 8 which is only like 9 episodes so I blew threw it, I wanted to watch some of the past seasons but that isn’t an option, however it is for other shows, I feel it should be an all or none type of deal, access to all shows past seasons or only access to the latest season, don’t just pick & choose which shows I can watch start to finish for me, that’s a decision I should be able to make myself. Other than that I really have no complaints other than I really wish y’all would chill with the 5 commercials every break but I guess typical TV does that too so can’t really complain about it.

### 5/5 — AMAZING shows & a solid app

*2020-04-23, version 10.1.0*

National Geographic has always been my favorite channel by far. The shows are genuinely thought-provoking and thoughtful, with the suspense and addictiveness of a TV show and the quality of a good documentary. The app works fine as well, and hasn’t glitched or crashed yet. I saw some reviews complaining about the amount of ads, and while that’s a fair point, I personally like them. Not because I enjoy watching ads that much, but because they force me to take a break and remember to drink some water, and without them I could watch for hours without even looking up from my screen 😄.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Thank you so much for the great review. If there's anything you can think of or suggest that we can improve on within the app to help improve the review score you gave us, just let us know; we're always excited to hear new ideas from our guests.

### 5/5 — We LOVE YOU National Geographic

*2019-10-21, version 4.0.2*

We enjoy every single show we have watched and we have even done our DNA via National Geographic Genome project
You have really done wonders teaching us about our Beautiful World and Humanity! We have learned so much and wishing we had more time to tap into every show in your library.
Our children and grandchildren enjoy National Geographic. Thank you so much. I recommend National Geographic to those who love life!

### 5/5 — You had One job

*2019-09-26, version 4.0.2*

(Update) They fixed it! Thank you :) The app works like a charm now. Complete overhaul, and they even fixed the pixelation that I used to see for a few minutes after every commercial. Now my only suggestion is that the scrub bar pop up immediately when we tap, instead of the artistic (?) delay. But I think I can live with that. Good work, devs!

[This app has always been slow and inefficient, but I’ve put up with it to watch my one show. But as of this week, I can’t use the app for more 2 minutes (literally) before it crashes, doesn’t matter if I’m watching something or navigating. Obviously this makes it utterly useless. If it doesn’t get fixed soon, I’ll be deleting it because the empty space on my phone has more value.]

**Developer response:** Hi there! Thank you so much for the great review. If there's anything you can think of or suggest that we can improve on within the app to help improve the review score you gave us, just let us know; we're always excited to hear new ideas from our guests.

### 5/5 — Love Nature Stories

*2018-11-28, version 3.10.3*

Thankful to all the many people going out making documentaries, saving our animals and sharing their experiences, for the World to see. Our Animals should be protected from men that just want to Kill for trophies. Thank you for sharing their stories.

### 5/5 — My review.

*2018-11-22, version 3.10.3*

I thoroughly enjoy NatGeo on my iPad as well as the broadcast tv version. Of course with the iPad I have more selection on what I want to watch. I also have the History, History Vault and the Curiosity apps. I have the History Vault but have not activated yet due to it’s seemingly negative reviews.
I not had any of those issues with the NatGeo app.
The wide variety of shows with your app allows me to bounce back and forth between NatGeo and Curiosity apps.
I rarely watch broadcast tv with the exception of some live sports.
So. I enjoy this app. Many, many, many props to the film making personnel who also put their lives on the line for the filming in certainly dangerous situations.

### 5/5 — Respectfully watchable and affordable quality entertainment

*2018-04-25, version 3.7*

I’m so pleased having a break from the daily burdens of negativity and so appreciate the notifications. Thank goodness for the true effort toward interesting and substantive viewing Nat Geo provides. Family entertainment like this needs more invitations to connect the social connections that is healing to a political and newsworthy repose from terror so prevalent these days. The electronics distractions offer fodder for conversations we’ve missed far too long. Thanks again for stepping up and not quitting as so many of us thrive on the arts and sciences. Keep it up!
