### 1/5 — Good idea but in the end doesn’t work

*2026-08-08*

As others have stated, they are not taking into account the unmanaged charging. They assume as soon as we plug in the charging has started. I have a Jeep 4xe and the schedule is start charging at 11pm but they are showing charging started when I plugged in. I am losing in their incentive because of this. they tell me it’s my vehicle, but since others with different vehicles are reporting this same issue it must be them.

**Developer response:** We sincerely apologize for the troubles you’ve experienced. We’d be
happy to look at this for you. Please send an email to chargesmartny@ev.energy
from the email associated with your National Grid account. Thank you, and we
look forward to hearing from you.

### 4/5 — If I had better control of boosting, it’d be a 5/5

*2026-08-07*

The app works great and I appreciate the savings, but it doesn’t allow me to boost the car on a charge during PEAK hours once in a while when I want charge during the day because it doesn’t connect to the car often enough so it turns off the car on my direct charging app and doesn’t connect frequently enough for me to control it better.

**Developer response:** Hi John, we would like to investigate this issue for you. Please send us an email to
chargesmartny@ev.energy from the email associated with your National Grid
account.

### 1/5 — Not Worth The Hassle

*2026-07-28*

I enrolled in this program the moment that I heard about it. My 2021 Hyundai Kona does not have smart charging but does allow you to schedule charging days and times. The app would show that I plugged in 5 hours before I actually did and even though I had scheduled the charge to occur during off peak hours only the bulk of the charging was shown to take place before 11pm. There have been numerous “phantom” charging sessions both at and away from home. I lost count of how many emails I sent to tech support. I am waiting for my $25 sign up bonus before I delete my account . Not worth the hassle.

**Developer response:** This doesn’t seem right. We want to take a closer look at this for you. Please
send an email to chargesmartny@ev.energy so we can connect.

### 1/5 — Update app to connect?!

*2026-04-24*

I had to factory reset my charger and now it shows that my charger is off-line all the time, there is no option to delete the linked charger or unlink it so I can reconnect it. on top of that it shows that my vehicle account needs to be reconnected. When I go and select BMW and try to connect it To my My BMW account it gives me an error that the app needs to be updated to the latest version, even though I’m running the latest version so there is no update available. so right now I can’t do anything with the app, on top of that I lost two months of reward incentives Because my vehicle nor charger is communicating with the app. I have sent multiple emails and no one has gotten back to me to correct the issue.

**Developer response:** Hi there, we'd like to investigate this issue for you. Please send us an email to chargesmartny@ev.energy from the email associated with your National Grid account and reference this review. We look forward to hearing from you!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2026-04-13, version 3.37.0*

Saves us a ton of money.

### 4/5 — App Limited By Car App

*2026-03-22*

If you do not have an EVSC from the approved list; this app relies solely on the car manufacturer application API. This means if the app cannot connect to your car there is no charge history. I had it happen twice so far. Once an over night charge was completed missed (36 kw). Another time I unplugged my car and it was not recognized which lead to 3 hours of on peak charging with no cars connected to the EVSC. Customer support sent me a link to a page that explained this. The app could be better but so could the car manufacturer app.

**Developer response:** Hi there, we'd be happy to look into this for you. Please send an email to chargesmartny@ev.energy and reference this review so we can review your account.

### 5/5 — Don't listen to reviews, it's great.

*2026-03-02*

After reading these reviews, I almost wrote off this app. I'm glad I didn't, it's totally fine! I didn't like the default setting of "smart" charging since this would require me using TWO apps to control my car–in my case both this app and the Tesla app. If you try to start charging with the Tesla app, this app would stop it a few minutes later. If you turn off the smart part, however, it just silently monitors when you charge your car and that's that! Yes you need to log into Tesla to give the app permission to track it, and yes the app needs to know where your car is so it can infer whether or not you're charging at home. ...but once it's set up, you can literally delete the app from your phone if you want to. I manage my scheduled charging through the Tesla app to make sure I'm charging at night, and now I'm happily getting my discount. Don't hesitate, it's a no brainer.

**Developer response:** Hi Adam, thank you for the amazing review! We're so glad you're loving the app, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It means the world to us!

### 5/5 — Must have for EV owners

*2026-02-25*

This application a must have if you have EV and are a customer of National Grid living in NY. This app allows you to manage off peak time charging on your EV. In return national grid will give you monetary incentive if managed to have your vehicle charged 80% of the time of the peak time. The savings ad up in long-term. The app also allows you to track your EVs electricity usage.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We're thrilled the app is helping you save money with off-peak charging and making EV ownership even more rewarding. Your kind words mean the world to our team. Happy charging!

### 2/5 — Intermittently functional

*2026-02-10*

I started using this in November. It basically worked for the 1st two months, which was great since I had to pay $24 to my utility company to use it. During that time, it started the charge when usage was low, charged reliably, and automatically ended the charge in the morning.

Unfortunately it just stopped working. If I plug the car in at 3pm, it just charges at the standard rate right away. So I am back to manually starting the charge before I go to bed and manually stopping the charge at 7 am when the rates go up.

I was excited about signing on to this to use energy efficiently, but in the end it is an inefficient use of the electrical grid and of my own energy since I now have to stay up late in order to manually starting the charge, and get up early to manually stop the charge. Too bad, it was a good idea gone awry.
