### 2/5 — False advertising

*2026-09-08, version 10.401.1*

National Theatre at Home has mentioned on multiple social platforms that The Audience is now streaming. When I actually go to the site and it is not streaming. I purposely bought this application so that I could watch that one show. I feel like I’ve been taking an advantage of.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-08-01, version 10.200.1*

Great shows. Big catalogue. You won’t regret it

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-08-01, version 10.200.1*

Live my subscription. Great variety- Shakespeare one day and a farce the next. Great actors, directors and playwrights.

### 5/5 — Sheer Genius , when you can’ t go to the theatre , a lifeline 🤣👏👍

*2026-07-27*

You Are The Best : Many Many Big Thanks for your work : indeed you are a Lifeline 🎭🎭🎭✌️✌️✌️👌👌👌👌😜

### 5/5 — An excellent service

*2026-07-26, version 10.200.1*

An excellent service and an excellent value! High quality productions featuring world class talent. Been subscribing for three years, and I never run out of great theater to watch. So grateful for NT@Home!

### 5/5 — So thankful for this!

*2026-07-24, version 10.200.1*

I can’t tell you how much I cherish having access to this amazing art from so far away - I have had the pleasure of seeing National Theatre live, in cinemas, and (blissfully) also at home! I find myself coming back to old favorites as well as checking out the new ones. Thank you for keeping art ACCESSIBLE! ❤️❤️❤️

### 2/5 — Live?

*2026-07-22, version 10.200.1*

A great idea in principle, but the app is clunky, plus downloads don’t work off Wi-Fi.

### 5/5 — The Audience

*2026-07-22, version 10.200.1*

Loved this! Script was very clever and funny. Staging was simple but very effective. Costumes were of the time and beautifully made as always. It’s great to be able to watch quality performances from the comfort of your own home. So glad I joined National Theatre at Home.

### 5/5 — Watch great theatre at home

*2026-07-19, version 10.200.1*

We go to the National Theatre a few times a year but we also subscribe to NTatHome as it means we can more easily watch shows at home as well.

### 4/5 — Connection sometimes difficult but productions always top rate

*2026-07-12, version 10.200.1*

The connection is improving but up to 2025 difficult in some context. However, the quality of filming and of the productions showcased have been uniformly fabulous. We are lucky enough to have been to many plays, including at the National. Seeing these ones on screen is if anything even better than the live experience (and many of the live aspects actually come across on screen from the buzz and atmosphere). I have given it as a special gift to particular friends in USA and would confidently do so for any theatre lovers worldwide, especially if they enjoy the London scene. However, being lucky enough to be in the London scene, we can promise you that this is not a second best. It is a brilliant experience as well, not the same in some respects but even better in others. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Such a great resource

*2026-07-02, version 10.200.1*

I’m so grateful to be able to watch great theater from my home in California. I love the National Theatre but I am not able to get to London as much as I would like, so to be able to watch beautifully created theater from home makes my world so much brighter.

### 5/5 — One Man Two Guvnors

*2026-06-23, version 10.200.1*

Brilliant play with astounding acting by James Corden.

### 5/5 — GREAT APP

*2026-06-21, version 10.200.1*

I’ve recently subscribed to National Theatre Live and have watched four plays and some talk sessions so far. Easy to view on my Samsung Smart TV, lots of content to choose from and regularly updated. Excellent value for money. Very happy to recommend 👍

### 5/5 — I love it!

*2026-06-21, version 10.200.1*

I love it!

### 5/5 — Great functionality :: incredible content

*2026-06-20, version 10.200.1*

What can I say? App works smoothly and casts onto our smart tv or plays on the phone. Great content and regular updates with newer releases too. Incredible value and i say that as someone who lives a 30 min train journey to the theatre. Cannot recommend it enough for anyone anywhere.

### 5/5 — Absolutely wonderful!

*2026-06-19, version 10.200.1*

National Theatre at Home is an absolute gift to the world! The content is of the highest quality and the app is terrific. I have had many wonderful evenings watching plays. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Favorite Pastime

*2026-06-12, version 10.200.1*

Some of my favorite productions are on this app! It’s incredible to have access to these beautiful works of art. I love it so much!

### 5/5 — Loving it

*2026-06-09, version 10.200.1*

Just incredible to be able to see shows I’ve missed at the theatre. I thought it wouldn’t be as enjoyable to watch on a screen but I find the shows as compelling as in the theatre.

### 4/5 — National Theatre at Home

*2026-05-29, version 10.200.1*

I love the selection of plays and musicals. Looking forward to “The Audience” joining the library. Would love for War Horse and Curious Incident to appear too, but loving exploring the shows I haven’t seen. - this app is great and for the monthly price, so worth it. Getting to experience theatre without the crazy ticket prices for trains and the show, plus food. - hours of entertainment. Not the same as being there in person, but def the next best option.

### 5/5 — Great service

*2026-05-25, version 10.200.1*

The quality of the plays is really strong. I’d love more to be on the service for longer, but appreciate this is not straightforward. If you like theatre at a reasonable cost, this is a good option

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Issues With Apple TV

*2026-04-30, version 9.304.1*

The app plays content on my Apple devices (iPhone and iPad), but I can neither screencast to my television screen, nor does the app play from my Appletv box. So it can only be watched on smaller devices.

### 1/5 — Awful!

*2026-04-11, version 9.304.1*

Would only replay in phone, refused to context to Mac or TV. Help sections did not work. What a money spinner.

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2026-03-12, version 9.304.1*

Cannot cast from iPad to smart tv. I can’t waste anymore of my life on this unwatchable app

### 1/5 — Con

*2026-02-23, version 9.304.1*

I cannot cancel my subscription!!! No way of doing it’ I can’t believe it and cannot connect to anyone to do it

### 1/5 — Good idea poor execution

*2026-01-24, version 9.304.1*

Blocks you mirroring to your tv so hard to watch and expensive to rent

### 1/5 — Does not work and when it doesn’t work they refuse to refund

*2026-01-12, version 9.304.1*

Please be very careful to check your set up before purchasing a National Theatre at Home subscription, especially the annual one.

Unless you have a very modern, and secure and specific set up, then neither the app nor the online service will work with your TV. This is what the tech suppport finally confirmed:

“High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of digital copy protection developed to prevent copying of digital audio & video content as it travels across connections. If your setup is not HDCP compliant, the following may occur:

The video player will display an error
Playback may be limited to audio only or video only
In most cases, the video won’t play at all
You will be stuck on a black screen

If you're connected from a HDCP compliant device, for example, you shouldn't have any issues viewing the content. However, if you connect that same device to a TV, then your device, the TV, and the cable connecting the two devices must all be HDCP compliant in order for you to view video through our website and/or apps.”

None of this is clear when you go to their website and NT at home have a policy that all subscriptions are non refundable even if they don’t work.

It’s effectively a scam that takes your money and delivers no service at all unless you have a HDCP compliant device.

### 1/5 — Unable to use

*2025-11-21, version 9.101.1*

Unable to use subscription from Google on iPhone. I’m not going to pay twice for this.

### 1/5 — Worst App

*2025-11-03, version 9.101.1*

This app is THE WORST, it’s so difficult to use I might not renew.
For Gods sake UPDATE YOUR APP!! FIX THIS APP, it’s IMPOSSIBLE!!
I told you I would NOT renew and I didn’t!

### 1/5 — If only zero stars were an option

*2025-08-16, version 9.100.1*

Does not cast to the tv and you can’t stream on a fire stick. $130 for absolutely nothing.

### 1/5 — Unable to sign on from other devices

*2025-06-19, version 9.100.1*

Stupid app

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Brilliant Opportunity

*2026-09-08, version 10.401.1*

Everyone should watch these remarkable plays

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-08-25, version 10.200.1*

It’s so great to have access to the arts from so far away. Great variety, and incredible acting.

### 5/5 — Making Theatre Accessible

*2026-08-24, version 10.200.1*

Such a great collection of shows and very accessible to all.

### 5/5 — Best app

*2026-08-22, version 10.200.1*

Best app ever

### 5/5 — Blown away! But why can’t I afford live theatre anymore?

*2026-08-22, version 10.200.1*

These performances are, of course, top class. The staging, the lighting, the pace: enough to take my breath away.
But I last went to the National Theatre in my twenties. My late father had the tickets as a journalist perk.
That was forty years ago. As a lifelong teacher, I’ve not been able to afford it since!
What are you doing to make sure ambassadors for live theatre, ordinary people, the rest of us(basically)can experience the part this wonderful app cannot? The ability to turn one’s head and gaze and gasp at the wonder of live performance on stage?

### 5/5 — Best streaming choice

*2026-08-19, version 10.200.1*

Listen I love a good movie or a TV show, but this is my favorite streaming service. When I want to feel more connected in the world and engaged with stories that are thoughtful, this is where I've been going! Highly recommend

### 5/5 — Opportunity of a Lifetime

*2026-08-09, version 10.200.1*

A wonderful way to see plays that have been impeccably directed and acted, and which few Americans would otherwise see.

### 5/5 — This theatre geeks favorite streaming service

*2026-08-05, version 10.200.1*

I’ve subscribed to NT at Home for 4 years now and have always found favorites throughout the year. There’s a handful of plays I have watched multiple times! I am grateful for NT at Home and hope they maintain this quality for a long time to come! I have rewatched plays I saw live at The National a number of times. As a theatre person, I can’t think of a better streaming service than NT at Home. You can get it for loved ones as a gift too! I have been so loved!

### 5/5 — Wonderful viewing!

*2026-08-03, version 10.200.1*

What a treat to sit in my home in Australia snd watch world class theatre from my home town.

### 5/5 — A no brainer

*2026-08-02, version 10.200.1*

I love National Theatre Home. Once or twice a month I sit down at home to watch an amazing piece of theatre on a big tv. I’ve seen plays and musicals I’ve always meant to see but never quite managed to. I’ve seen shows I’ve never heard of and been blown away.
