## What is NauticCalc?

NauticCalc is a professional calculator for precise nautical navigation at sea. Designed for sailors, skippers and maritime crews, it helps you plan safe routes, correct courses and understand changing conditions.

Use NauticCalc to convert between knots, kilometres per hour, metres per second, miles per hour and feet per second. Switch depth units between metres, fathoms and feet, and handle distance in nautical miles, metres and kilometres with confidence.

Plan your voyage with accurate course calculations. Adjust compass headings for deviation and variation, and apply wind and current corrections to keep your vessel on track. Estimate arrival times using distance and speed so you can manage watch schedules and harbour approaches.

Work with wind in Beaufort, kilometres per hour, metres per second and knots. Assess sea conditions, choose suitable sail plans and prepare for regatta or cruising passages. Combine speed, heading and drift to understand the effect of current on your track.

NauticCalc supports everyday coastal sailing as well as longer offshore trips. Use it alongside your paper charts, electronic plotter and logbook to cross check bearings, positions and routes.

Polar diagram – realistic ETA under sail

• New: add your boat's polar (import .pol/.csv, use a preset or enter it by hand) – arrival times then use your actual speed for the wind and angle instead of one flat figure
• No-go warning when the course is too close to the wind, plus a ready beating or gybing plan with tack headings, detour and sailing time – add the turning point to your route with one tap
• Name, archive and reload voyage plans instead of overwriting them with the next one

New in beta – onboard instruments:
• Live values from your boat's network (NMEA 0183, Signal K, NMEA 2000) feed straight into the calculators, logbook and voyage planning: speed through water, course, wind and depth
• Requires a gateway on the onboard Wi-Fi. Rolling out gradually after the update

Also improved:
• Apparent wind now works both ways – including back from measured apparent wind to true wind
• Calculators show their result right after launch instead of waiting for your first entry
• Magnetic variation: a faulty secondary calculator has been removed, and the values are checked against the official NOAA reference
• Course correction: working back with a deviation table now lands exactly on the magnetic heading, and the consistency warning shows up again when heading and corrections don't add up
• Tap the active tab to jump back to its overview
• Voyage planning: route overview map in the result; the AI explanation no longer cuts off on long voyages
• Usage statistics only with your consent – the switch on the start screen is off by default

• Your calculations stay local and transparent: the AI only phrases them, it doesn't calculate and invents no new recommendations

• Start a voyage plan straight from a logbook voyage – start and destination are carried over
• Anchor alarm now shows "Acquiring position …" while waiting for the first GPS fix
