## What is NaviStar?

The NaviStar App allows you to perform astronomical navigation calculations in a few easy steps. Enter the required observation data and NaviStar will calculate your truth position. The results obtained are shown in a PDF document.

The NaviStar App could be a very useful tool for seafarers. Note that in case of “Black Out” or GPS offline, celestial Navigation would be their only possibility to safely proceed to port. NaviStar App would help seafarers providing the calculation of its truth position and reducing the time to do so. Also, the print option of NaviStar results would provide evidence of their observations to authority surveyors.

Available algorithms:
-Simultaneous observation (*)
-Almost simultaneous observation (*)

(*)Graphical representation results on plotting chart.

## Key features

- Astronomical navigation calculations
- True position calculation

### 1/5 — Needs basic layout updated

*2019-01-07, version 1.2*

I’m asked for time during a sight, but the inputs are set for degrees. Slick interface, but developer needs to use it in the real world.

**Developer response:** The concepts that you are referring to, are the Greenwich Hour Angle (GHA), the Local Hour Angle (LHA) and Sidereal Hour Angle (SHA). These angles have to be measured in degrees. Understanding that the (hh) and (hh + 1) angles are referred to the previous and subsequent values at the UTC of each observation.

NaviStar has been presented at the IAMU 2018 congress and has been tested by captains in real exercises. NaviStar would help seafarers providing the calculation of its truth position and reducing the time to do so (not more than three minutes). Also, the print option of NaviStar results would provide evidence of their observations to authority surveyors.

Note that in case of “Black Out” or GPS offline, celestial Navigation would be their only possibility to safely proceed to port, in such cases, I think that you would like to have a tool that could help you to calculate your truth position.

For any other observation I remain at your disposal at info@irukandji.co
