### 4/5 — App is great but theres a fatal error

*2018-07-11*

When attempting to delete prior test records the app crashes. I can’t figure out how to report this to the developer

### 4/5 — ColRegs

*2014-11-23*

Worth the money. I have been preparing for the ColReg examination. The questions I've been told are very similar to the exam. Enjoyed the fact I could do just international question. The questions really do hammer into your brain what you need to know. Although I wished if the flash card part worked a little better

### 4/5 — Really Good

*2013-10-14*

Really good app with great interface. Wish there was more questions though. I ended up going through them all quickly but I'm willing to admit I may be a special case.

### 5/5 — Great way to study

*2011-11-21*

Great interface with the rules. Learn the rules, test and retest until you get it right. Aced my rules exam (100%) thanks to this app.

### 5/5 — For the professional mariner and dedicated recreational skipper

*2011-03-30*

I found this app very useful; and so far it has been bug-free. It has all the USCG questions, and while it can present them randomly at user choice, it’s even more useful (to me, anyway) when it presents the questions as a ‘set’, because then you get a sense of the USCG’s perspective on an issue; the questions then seem to be attacking a concept from multiple angles.

What is nice is the availability of so many user options. You can practice with no record being kept, practice with scoring, and if desired, one can easily reset the scores to zero and begin again fresh.

Also included in the Reference section is a library of US and Canadian Navigation Rules, as well as a bibliography of maritime law resources.

A set of 87 flash cards are readily linked with their associated questions.

My only suggestion is to use a darker shade of the green font in the answers. The present green lacks contrast when displayed against some of the Caribbean Sea wallpaper photos.

All in all, a handy and effective way to prep for the Masters exam, or perhaps even more importantly, for the skipper who wants to know the Rules and be as professional as he or she can be.

### 1/5 — App is clunky

*2026-08-16*

This thing is poorly built. Tests don’t tell you the answer until completed. Some study guide shows that you answer and when you want to see if you got it right they just give you book chapters to read with no results.

### 1/5 — This $16 app asks questions about a picture, and doesn’t show the picture.

*2025-04-28*

The title really says it all. Over all its design and layout is fine. But I didn’t buy it to look pretty. I bought it to pass a test. Not all questions refer to a picture but when it does the app does not display it. I can’t use it and will be asking for a refund.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money.

*2021-07-15*

Doesn’t show pictures when asking questions about lights or day shapes. There is 0 context. Want a refund.

### 1/5 — Great app... But some answers are wrong

*2014-10-23*

Would be 5 stars... But for an app that claims to help you get ready for the Rules of the Road test, some wrong answers are just not acceptable.

Most of the wrong answers I found were in the lights section.

Good app to help you get a feel for the test, but very unreliable to actually get you to PASS.

### 1/5 — Grrrr

*2014-05-21*

Not all the answers are correct which defeats the purpose!!!!!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2013-02-20*

Your tests are giving wrong answers! Shocking!

### 2/5 — Not worth it

*2015-03-03*

Get the Upgrade App rather than this one. Upgrade is laid out more like an exam and has less incorrect answers. This is also only the rules of the the road as other apps have all sections to take.

### 3/5 — Not worth $14.99

*2021-09-03, version 2.7*

This app is ok if it were free but at $14.99 it’s littered with wrong answers and bugs. For example it changes answers. I thought I was losing my mind as I went over my completed graded tests and I was getting questions wrong I absolutely knew the answers to so I started to write all my answers down too. This proved my point. 2 to as many as 7 answers changes per test.

### 4/5 — Is this still being updated?

*2024-01-16*

Same as title

### 4/5 — Very good but needs improvement

*2018-09-17*

Very good and useful app to study for dwo but there’s about more than a handful of questions that the answer wrong. It needs to be fixed

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Navy!!

*2018-08-16*

So helpful for all members of the bridge team.

### 5/5 — There is no substitute! Best tool for studying ROTR!

*2015-05-04, version 2.5.1*

I am a US Navy Captain Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) who continues to expand my knowledge as a professional mariner with this and other tools from the pros at Starpath. This intuitive product is easy to use and fully up to date with the latest version of the new Nav Rules and Regulations Handbook (supercedes COMDTINST M16672.2D). A couple of features that are invaluable: the "filter" function lets you filter out portions of the test bank by keyword, e.g., if your course won't test you on Western Rivers, you can filter sample questions for the word "western". Also, after taking several practice tests over time, you can filter the next test to only give you questions that you missed on previous attempts. I had one question in which I thought the test database was incorrect. I used the "helpdesk" email and received a response from the head of Starpath, Dr. Burch himself, who tactfully showed me that the error was mine, pointing me to the specific page in the new rule book where i had overlooked the answer! The full app is a great resource for any Navy or Merchant Mariner to keep up the critical skills that are fundamental to our professions. BZ to Starpath!

### 5/5 — great app - well worth the price

*2014-11-18*

Short story: Great app - well worth the price. Long story - I was a little hesitant to purchase the app after the reviews about how the questions are inaccurate. Therefore, when I take tests on the app and I see something that looks odd I check the answer against the USCG test bank. I can’t speak for the last several people who have reviewed the app, but the official USCG and this test have always matched except 1 anomaly and I e-mailed the company to inquire. I got a response back immediately that they were looking into it and a day later explained that the answer had been updated in the last version of the USCG testing bank and they would incorporate that answer into their next version as well. Bottom line - questions and answers match the USCG test perfectly well, customer service is fast in case you do doubt an answer, and the app is well worth it if you have to study for an RoR test.

### 5/5 — UNBELIEVABLE

*2013-12-15*

This is the most legitimate app I've ever bought in my life. It has everything you need including over 1000 DWO questions for practice tests, as well as a digital version of the navigation rules (diagrams included). You can break tests down into subsections if you struggle with one part. I used this app for 03 days and got a 98% on the test. I highly recommend this app.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2012-05-18*

Please make more I'm sure you'll do well with it. I work on boats and am taking mates exams. I'll spread the word of your app to my coworkers. Please consider deck general , nav general & deck safety. Thanks

### 5/5 — Bootstrap Turner

*2012-04-15*

This is an awesome tool if your trying to understand the rules of the road. I'm getting ready to board for Coxwain and this is a great method of getting the rules and lights and sounds in my head. I would recommend this to anyone who is unclear of the rules and is having a hard time getting them down. Go for it!!!!!!!!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2012-03-07*

I have thoroughly enjoyed this app. It's a great review of the nav rules for captains license.

### 5/5 — NavRules review

*2012-02-29*

Once again David has really done it! This is the best ap regarding navigation rule study that I've seen. .
I own, and have read everything that David Burch has written.
David is an accomplished navigator, weatherman and writer. It is no surprise that he would create such a great ap. I highly recommend purchasing this ap as well as all as anything David has written. You won't be disappointed. David owns Starpath School of Navigation.

### 5/5 — Totally Amazing

*2012-02-01*

Best App ever! I used this to study for my test and ended up getting a 100% on it. The question pool are literally questions from the exams. The pictures are how you would see it on the exam too. I think what was most useful was when you got a question wrong it would site the exact part in the rules book where the answer is. Absolutely worth the money. Absolutely.

### 5/5 — Great!!!!!!!

*2011-12-30*

If you are getting ready to test or upgrade its great to see how far you are off. Having it on the phone and can do a few questions whenever I have a couple of minutes is awesome. Better then carrying a big or small computer around with disks. In a week have already brought my score up big time. I highly recommend!!!!
