All the ads will load quickly, but the news text itself will take forever to load. ### 2/5 — Um 😕 *2023-06-02* It’s ok, but searching is prohibitively difficult- a search for “togo cocktail bill” couldn’t find a story called “to-go cocktails will stick around” also the livestream looks for wifi unsuccessfully even though the rest of the app is functioning on lte/5g, but worst of all the app shuts off if I navigate away and loses where I was. Whoever idea THAT was is just adding to perception that all media companies are eyeball greedy to the exclusion of any concern for user experience. What could be a help is just another “improvement” that screws the loyal viewers- NO THANKS ### 4/5 — Lacks Apple TV support *2023-02-19, version 7.8.1* This app is nearly perfect on iOS and iPadOS. But the tvOS app always lacked push notifications. And it didn’t support the Up Next row. Support for the app has been dropped on Apple TV. Only way to watch NBC Bay Area content now on Apple TV is via YouTube or the main NBC app. ### 2/5 — Hard to remove pop ads from the app *2023-01-15, version 7.7.1* Very hard to remove ads from the app if you accidentally press on them. There is no obvious “x” to close like on other apps. ### 3/5 — Night mode please *2022-12-03, version 7.7.1* Are all these news apps white backgrounds because they think they need to simulate a newspaper? KPBS does it best, easy on the eyes. ### 3/5 — Bad design *2022-04-14* I am subtracting two stars. Both for annoying navigation problems. When I open the app to see a weather alert, I can never exit out of the weather page. There is no easy link back to the home page. That’s an app 101 first rule of design. Easy navigation. The app also tends to not navigate to the alert when I click the alert and see the article. Instead, it puts me to the main article rather than the alert. The problem here is, the behavior never acknowledges the alert has been seen, making the number of alerts seen on the icon pointless. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry you’ve experienced issues with our app. We just released a new version, which includes fixes for the problems you’ve flagged. We hope you will update the app and continue to use it. Thanks again. ### 3/5 — Clickbait *2021-10-24* The local news provided here is timely and informative, but what’s with the clickbait “articles” following the actual articles? This is a news app! The stories following the news articles should be other news and information, not internet trash. If you need revenue, go with ads from reputable companies. Using clickbait makes the whole thing seem shady and unreliable. Weather is often inaccurate for Mill Valley area. ### 2/5 — New App Design - Meh *2021-08-16, version 7.0.4* I gave it an honest try. It has been maybe a month now. However, I still despise the redesigned UI. For one: Where the heck is the weather for the current day? I’m looking for the high temperature, but in the forecast it only lists the next day. The font size is small and even though I’m under 30, I squint at it. The colors seem too light as well. I loved NBC’s App for weather, but this redesign really has me thinking. ### 2/5 — New design sacrifices usability for white space *2021-08-14* Horrible changes to the aesthetics. Tons of white space, tiny and light colored font. Obviously designed and tested on the 20 something set and not for the aging eyes over 40. Local news link is buried. Far less user friendly. I use the app everyday and now have to wear glasses to read the weather section. Hour by hour future temp trend reduced. Next days weather is less apparent. I’ve used this app daily to just touch base on local news, but the new layout completely ruins it. Very disappointing & now doubtful I’ll be using it going forward. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Auto ads and late with news *2026-06-02* The title says it all. Every article I click on starts with an ad that you have to press “x” to get out of. The layout is also strange. I shouldn’t have to scroll past several old articles to find newer ones. Also, this news is late by hours and days and sometimes doesn’t even mention important current events, while at the same time keeping old news up for weeks. Overall, I’m disappointed and will probably be deleting. ### 1/5 — Bad Privacy & Bad Links *2025-11-07, version 8.4* I am deleting this app. Every time I open this app it tries to read the contents of the paste buffer. This is an evil, dark pattern. If they are using one, they are probably using more. The icon appears on the screen, but it doesn't respond. I have watched the Bay Area news for years, when I lived in Washington state and from the Midwest. Now I can no longer keep up with the SF news. Please fix the app! ### 1/5 — No News is Good News *2024-04-22, version 7.12.2* Just deleted this app because it’s not refreshed with news happening across the Bay Area. No way that only a beached whale, homelessness, and the atrump trial are all that happened in the Bay Area from Friday evening through Monday morning. Don’t be afraid to report the crimes, as we will still shop, buy homes, and dine in the Bay Area. Just be honest. ### 1/5 — Apple TV no longer supported *2023-05-26, version 7.8.1* The app will download and install on my Apple TV, but all it does is put up a screen declaring Apple TV is no longer supported. You can purchase a Roku, or pay for Peacock. Or, in my case, Bye Bye NBC! ### 1/5 — No more Apple TV *2023-02-20, version 7.8.1* I don’t know why they thought of not being compatible with Apple TV! Every morning and evening I always watch my news on there, because of how simple it is to use the app and get my daily information, super sad. I really hope this gets fixed soon. Such a surprise for a quality news broadcast team. Their investigative reporters should examine why this terrible app made it into the app store. Landscape video issues and the inability to even play video in background it’s very poor. Everywhere you look in the app is riddled with strange design decision and just buggy behavior. They should pull it.
