I’ve been an NBC News viewer for over 20 years, and I’ve relied on this app to stay informed. Unfortunately, over the past six months, the app has shifted so heavily toward a subscription model that it feels like more than 95% of the stories on the home page are now locked behind a paywall. I understand that news organizations need to generate revenue, but when almost everything on the front page requires a subscription, the app no longer provides much value to longtime users. Instead of encouraging me to subscribe, it’s encouraged me to look elsewhere for my news. After more than two decades with NBC News, you’ve completely lost me. I can’t recommend this app to others when there are plenty of news sources that still provide meaningful access without putting nearly every headline behind a paywall. ### 2/5 — This app has changed for the worse *2026-07-22, version 13.9.1* I have used this app ever since I got my first iPhone back in 2009. I have depended on this app to keep me up to date not only with what is going on in our country, but also with what is going on in the rest of the world. As of late, almost all the stories on NBC News are “for subscribers only”. As someone on a fixed income, I cannot afford to be a subscriber. It is really sad. Layouts are different on different devices. It needs a section heading like it used to have.
