## What is NDC Scout?

NDC Scout helps users quickly search public FDA drug product and package data by NDC, brand name, generic name, labeler, or ingredient. It is designed for fast reference lookups, showing package NDCs, active ingredients, dosage form, route, labeler, listing dates, marketing status, and related public shortage records when available.

Exact package lookups use NDC Scout's developer-operated service and its regularly refreshed local FDA NDC/NSDE mirror, with NIH/NLM RxNorm as a server-side fallback. Name searches and safety checks continue to use public FDA openFDA data. The app does not require an account or API key.

NDC Scout is an informational reference tool. It does not provide medical advice and should not replace official product labeling or professional clinical judgment.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-08

• Routes exact NDC and medication-barcode lookups through the regularly refreshed NDC Scout database instead of making a new openFDA request for every scan.
• Preserves checksum-valid UPC, EAN, GTIN, and GS1 package identifiers for exact matching.
• Keeps the scanned value visible while safely retaining any distinct effective lookup value for retry and recent-search actions.
• Rejects stale, mismatched, or internally inconsistent results instead of presenting or printing them.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-06

Improves medication barcode lookup reliability. NDC Scout now recognizes more package barcode formats, checks current FDA data first, and uses historical FDA and RxNorm data when current records do not match. Results clearly identify their source, and service problems remain separate from confirmed no-match results. Ambiguous NDCs now require selection so the wrong medication is not printed automatically, and batch exports show the source used for each lookup.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-30

Scanning is now one continuous flow: keep scanning items until you tap Done. A single scan opens the medication lookup and label-printing screen; multiple scans open batch review. This update also improves scanner navigation and printer access.
