## What is NEAR?

Meet the people you actually crossed paths with.

You walk past dozens of people every day — at the coffee shop, in class, at the show, on the train. NEAR remembers them for you.

Live your life. Once a day, your Batch unlocks: everyone whose path crossed yours in the last 24 hours. Tap anyone to see the socials they chose to share — Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Discord — and connect on the platform you both already use. No QR codes. No phone numbers. No "what's your @ again?"

THE BATCH

This is the heart of NEAR. You don't browse a map or scroll a feed of strangers. You go about your day, and once every 24 hours NEAR reveals the people you genuinely crossed paths with — new faces first, the regulars you see all the time underneath. It's a daily ritual, not an endless feed.

ROLLS — the moment, not just the profile

Post a photo or video tied to where you are right now. Anyone nearby can see it, like it, and react — a live snapshot of what's happening around you that's gone in 24 hours. No permanent feed, no pressure.

QUO — your status, right now

Leave a quo on your profile: a quick thought, the song you're playing, and the exact place you're at — Instagram-notes style, gone after 24 hours. A little signal of what you're up to for the people who cross your path.

PINS

Met someone worth remembering? Pin them. They're saved to your Pins page so you never lose that connection — and when you both pin each other, you're linked.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

• You only appear to others when Discovery is on — flip it off and you instantly stop being collected, and stop seeing others too
• Location is blurred to a rough ~100m area — never your exact spot, never a live track
• No phone numbers shared with anyone
• No follower counts, no public profiles, no algorithm chasing your attention
• Block and report built in, with instant removal

NO ACCOUNTS TO MANAGE

Sign in with Apple or your phone number. Add a name, a photo, and your socials. Turn Discovery on and you're part of the day's crossings. That's it.

Whether you're at a music festival, a startup mixer, a lecture hall, or your local bar — NEAR turns "we probably should've exchanged socials" into "we already did."

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7 — 2026-08-11

NEAR just changed. Meet the Batch.

Instead of browsing strangers in real time, you now live your day and let it add up: once every 24 hours, your Batch unlocks everyone whose path crossed yours — new faces first, the regulars you see all the time underneath. A daily ritual, not an endless feed.

Introducing Quo.
Leave a quo on your profile — a quick thought, the song you're playing, and the exact spot you're at, Instagram-notes style. It shows for 24 hours, then clears itself.

Also new:
• Redesigned profiles with a cleaner cover banner and the quo bubble
• Discovery you fully control — turn it off and the app stops using your location right away, and you drop out of everyone's batch
• Smooth animations throughout, faster photo/video opening, and lots of polish

### 1.6 — 2026-07-07

Your Rolls, your rules.

• Delete any roll you've posted — from the deck, the viewer, or your archive
• New My Rolls archive (bottom-right on Rolls) — every roll you've ever posted, including expired ones only you can see
• Expired rolls now open from notifications instead of dead-ending — shown as memories with comments closed
• Retake button when taking a profile photo — reshoot without starting over
• Edit your name right from My Profile
• Notification dots are now red and show up instantly when you reopen the app
• New heads-up strip if your location isn't set to Always — so you know when you're not discoverable
• Tighter discovery — made for people you can wave at
• You stay visible to people nearby for days, even if you haven't opened the app
• Smoother Rolls opening — no more flash on launch
• Under-the-hood security upgrades and lots of small fixes

### 1.5 — 2026-06-27

Introducing Rolls.

• Rolls: share a photo or video tied to where you are right now — anyone nearby can see it, like it, and react
• New tab bar to make room for it — swipe between Home, Rolls, Pins, and Profile
• Sign in with Apple or your phone number — faster, simpler sign-up
• Brand-new step-by-step onboarding: username, photo, one social, and you're in
• Redesigned camera — faster lens switching, fixed upside-down flips, no more delay before recording
• Notifications redesigned — see a preview of the photo behind every like, comment, and reply
• Smoother profile editing — adding and removing socials no longer flickers, and your order saves correctly every time
• Faster, more reliable nearby detection
• Lots of small fixes and polish throughout

### 1.2 — 2026-06-03

A complete redesign.

• New launch experience and refreshed branding
• Updated home, sign-up, and login flows
• Brand-new bottom navigation — quick access to Home, Pins, Edit Profile, and Settings
• Redesigned Edit Profile — manage your bio, socials, and links in one place
• Cleaner profile sheets with swipe-to-dismiss
• Tap your photo to take a new one, choose from your library, or remove
• Drag to reorder your socials, and tap × to remove
• Smoother sharing experience with subtle haptics throughout
• Faster, more reliable nearby detection — even after closing the app or losing signal
• Plenty of small polish: new icons, refined animations, and fixed bugs you didn't know we found

### 1.0 — 2026-05-14
