## What is NEAR Registry?

The National Emergency AED + Resource (NEAR) Registry provides centralized access to AEDs, bleeding control kits, epinephrine and naloxone, so they can be identified and deployed during life-threatening emergencies.

The NEAR Registry integrates with emergency communication centers so telecommunicators can alert callers to nearby lifesaving resources.

In communities using PulsePoint Respond, AED owners and responsible parties can receive real-time alerts when their registered AED is needed nearby.

The NEAR Registry consolidates data from all available sources to create a unified, authoritative source of resource locations for emergency use. These sources include manufacturers and distributors, program management companies, governmental entities, school districts, airports, and partner organizations and NGOs. Many communities also collect locations in partnership with local businesses and places of assembly.

The NEAR Registry is hosted and administered by the PulsePoint Foundation, a US-based public 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to empower community members to take life-saving action in the critical moments before professional help arrives. In furtherance of this initiative, PulsePoint provides access to the NEAR Registry, administrator training, and support services at no charge. For more information, please visit near-registry.org.

The NEAR Registry is FirstNet Certified™ for use with 911. FirstNet Certified solutions must demonstrate 99.99% availability and pass third-party security, data privacy and performance assessments.

### 5/5 — A big step forward

*2026-07-28, version 26.7.5300*

In our agency these AEDs are recommended when 911 talks to callers during heart emergencies. Many times the callers are unaware of AEDs close to them. We have used for several years.

### 1/5 — Locked out by phone

*2026-07-03, version 26.4.5245*

This stupid app locked out my phone. I couldn’t do a normal button reset. Lucky it wasn’t an emergency. I needed so do a hard reset to get control back

### 1/5 — Froze my Iphone 17

*2026-06-27, version 26.4.5245*

While I think this app is great to find AEDs around your area (watched demo in my ACLS/BLS) class), I wasn't able to open the app at all because it gets stuck on notifications. The app doesn't open other than the notifications window. At that point, Im not able to do ANYTHING with my phone other than force restart it (if anyone has the same issue for Iphone 17, it's push volume up one sec then down one sec and then push and hold the right side button until Apple screen appears/screen is black).

### 2/5 — Login?

*2026-05-31, version 26.4.5245*

Why on earth do you need a login to see AED details? “Hang on keep compressions going while I click forgot password”

### 1/5 — App did not work

*2026-03-04, version 2.13*

App did not work after download. Look elsewhere.

### 3/5 — LOVE IT

*2025-10-19, version 2.11*

Wish my cities would get to using PulsePoint and PulsePoint AED. It’s gonna be fun adding AED’s myself though as I find them (pretty sure I’m the only one to use this app in both cities but this would be beneficial even if so).

### 5/5 — Great mission

*2025-10-18, version 2.11*

This app collects and displays AEDs for/from the National AED Registry used by 911 operators. If you know an AED location make sure to use this app to add it to the registry.

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2024-11-19, version 2.9*

Considering it’s an app that’s to help potentially save a life, make clear it is not for the uk

### 1/5 — Wanted to like it but had to delete

*2024-06-13, version 2.8*

This app completely bricked my phone. Notification appeared to allow access upon install and could not select either option. After that, I couldn’t select anything on my phone at all including the ability to unlock my phone. Eventually had to look up how to hard reset my phone to restore access. Not great for an emergency which thankfully I was not in at the time.

### 3/5 — Will update

*2023-09-11, version 2.6*

Will update review once I evaluate

## Frequently asked questions about NEAR Registry

### What does the PulsePoint AED app do?

The PulsePoint AED app is used to build and manage the National Emergency AED Registry (NEAR). It allows users to submit the location of unregistered AEDs in their community, making them accessible to emergency call takers and disclosed to nearby individuals during cardiac arrest events.

### What kind of AEDs can be registered?

You can register any AED that is available in public places such as offices, airports, schools, and businesses. The app also allows for the recording of other lifesaving resources found at AED locations, including Bleeding Control Kits, Naloxone, and Epinephrine.

### Is there a cost to use the PulsePoint AED app or registry?

No, there is never a charge to use or add to the registry. PulsePoint is a public 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation dedicated to improving cardiac arrest survival.

### Who is the companion app, PulsePoint Respond, for?

The companion app, PulsePoint Respond, is for individuals who are trained in CPR and willing to assist during a nearby cardiac emergency. It is separate from the PulsePoint AED app, which focuses on registering and managing AED locations.

### How does this app help in a cardiac emergency?

By registering AEDs and other emergency resources, the app ensures that emergency call takers and nearby individuals can quickly locate these lifesaving devices when a cardiac arrest event occurs. This integration with emergency dispatch systems helps to reduce response times and improve survival rates.
