When I order a taxi I prefer to pay cash to the driver not pre payment so the app is not useless to pele like my self for this reason alone. I have tried t in install and reinstall it and it continues yes to ask for pre payment on any booking which is not ideal and I’m sure has increased your phone call service work load considerably ### 2/5 — Not geared to out-of-country visitors *2019-11-26* It may or may not work but I’ll never know. To register you need a UK phone number. I am a frequent visitor to York and have a North American number. The app makes no allowance for this and assumes all users’ numbers start with +44. And yet, you’d think that visitors would be the most likely target audience. ### 2/5 — Late *2019-10-25, version 32.0.2* Driver was lovely, but the car was dispatched at our pickup time causing us to be picked up 20mins late. Not ideal ### 1/5 — Do not use *2018-10-13, version 12.21.1* Dropped us in the wrong place (despite clear instructions from app) and then charged again for taking us to destination. Driver 2nd time round still didn’t know where to drop us and suggested we should be telling them where to go. ### 1/5 — Shambolic and unreliable *2018-03-07, version 12.15* Shambolic and unreliable ### 1/5 — Terrible, absolute rubbish - don’t waste your time *2018-01-26, version 12.13* You’d be better off with a quality App from a quality company. This company not only has a terrible app, but their customer service is awful. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. If you have a problem, you can be sure that they will NOT resolve it. Sam. ### 1/5 — Execrable. *2017-01-22, version 11.2.1* Tried to use this app to book a taxi whilst on a train back to York... unfortunately you can only tell it to pick you up from your current location, which is no good if you're currently in Peterborough and waiting until you're at the station defeats the point of pre booking...might as well chance it on the rank. Utter garbage. ### 1/5 — Minimum ten minutes late every time *2015-12-01, version 11.2.1* I basically only used this service because it allows you to pay by card. They never once arrived on time, and once kept me waiting nearly half an hour in the rain on a taxi I had booked two hours in advance. But to be fair I got taken up copper gate and down Clifford street and round by the barbican to melrosegate in Heworth from the 3 cranes ,I should of been taken down church street onto colliergate then stonebow onto Heworth .... Incompetent. ### 1/5 — Driver being assigned…. *2026-01-07, version 38.5.0* Confirmed bookings are not actually confirmed, a driver is assigned at the time of booking… and if they’re busy expect them to be 15-45 mins late. ### 1/5 — Late --no apology *2025-03-01, version 36.10.0* Booked a taxi at York cars at 4.30 pm to be collected at 6.15 pm to be in York City Centre for 7 pm arrived to collect us at at 6.45 !!! No apology, just "I was given the job late mate" Rang the switchboard and he was useless along with no apology. Not good enough!!!! ### 1/5 — Can't trust advance booking *2025-01-22, version 36.10.0* I had a car booked a day in advance for a hospital appointment. No one arrived and I had to call locally in the end to hear that no one is available now. Yes that's why I booked it in advance. This was on a workday in January, so not a busy time in york. ### 1/5 — Extra charges *2022-12-02, version 34.0.25* Twice now I’ve got into the car only for the driver to mess around while the clock is goiup I’ve been charged over £1 before the car starts moving!!! It might be a small amount but these small amounts build up. Won’t be using York Cars anymore ### 1/5 — Terrible service *2022-09-14, version 33.7.22* Don’t book taxis through these guys, their service is terrible. Their drivers are always late and they don’t care. ### 1/5 — Late *2021-05-29, version 33.2.4* No point booking on the app because they turn up late (about 15 minutes). I just had a 30 min wait for a taxi with absolutely no updates or apologies to just be told to deal with it. I then used Streamline Taxi’s, much quicker and friendlier. No wonder Uber is such a success.... ### 1/5 — Not using again...cost me more in fares... *2019-03-03, version 32.0.2* I would use again....1.driver demanded payment before taking me to my destination 2. Card payment option on app wouldn’t work, minimum fare of £20.00 applied when my actual fare was £18.90. I was eventuality charged £20.10 in total cost which exceed my actual fare. Too much of a hustle than its worth.avoid ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Actually a pretty good app *2025-06-26, version 36.12.0* Normally taxi company apps are very simple and only really exist due to maybe Uber in the area but this one is actually really good. Never surges prices like uber does and keeps the standard fares, decent amount of drivers even during night time. Sharing your ride isn’t a feature I thought I’d ever use but it has made my family feel much safer about where I’m going, which is also a cool bonus. Overall a very good app if you don’t feel like calling them. ### 5/5 — Hawa *2024-03-09, version 34.5.17* Trip from home to York station, prompt and very friendly. Saturday 9th March 24, 12-30 pm. Shoutout to Mohammet(Tom) best driver ever! ### 5/5 — Worth using *2018-09-29, version 12.21.1* Had to pay via cash and taxi wasn’t immediate but only took about 10 mins on a busy weekend so actually really good for a small business. Paid £4 for a trip Uber wanted to charge £16 for. Says it all... ### 4/5 — York Cars App *2017-12-01, version 12.13* Improvements over old version it now finds addresses better Downside print is a bit smaller as are the buttons but can live with that ### 4/5 — Basic is all you need *2015-05-25, version 2.216* Not used it just yet, but had a play. The map/location doesn't use GPS which is bonkers. Needs to do that and probably update the graphics and resolution. ### 3/5 — YOU HAVE A NOTIFICATION *2024-12-12, version 36.7.0* App is fine for booking a taxi, type addresses, time for pick up etc. car comes somewhere around the time you’ve booked for and tends to drop you in the place you requested. I always seem to have the big red notification dot showing a notification but cannot for the life of me find in the app where it’s coming from. Either keep notifications off so you don’t know when your taxi is coming, or delete and reinstall app on a regular basis. ### 2/5 — Great drivers, problematic app *2022-09-26, version 33.7.22* Never had an issue with any of the drivers, and actually my experience is positive.
