Although the pen functions effectively, its software is lacking, which undermines the overall experience and makes it not worth the effort. Lamy ought to be embarrassed.

I bought a LAMY Neo Smart-pen for 3 reasons:
1) the promise of having my handwriting converted to text that could then be saved, edited and reused;
2) the quality of the LAMY brand (and by inference, of their smart-pen partner)
3) the fact that the tech standard NEO implements for digitising handwriting was not proprietary, potentially allowing for purchasing more pens and stationery across multiple suppliers.
The pen from LAMY and the quality of the stationery from NEO are excellent. So too is the digital collection and animation of my handwriting, on the app,
and the method for changing the properties (colour, thickness etc) of the digital 'pen'.
However, the crucial function - recognising and extracting text - is effectively useless, at best recognising a few simple words. 
The English language help is difficult to follow even for the few simple topics it covers; and the NEO website accessed via the app is rarely updated. The MAC IOS app has been disabled (due to "instability") since I purchased the Smart-pen some months ago, and there is no hint of when it will be fixed. All my efforts to identify how improve the text extraction by the phone app or to import the pages into a third party app such as OneNote in order to access a better OCR/text extraction utility have been unsuccessful. 
It's a shame that such a nice writing device is ruined by the poor quality of its operating software.

Also begeistert bin ich nicht. Mal geht die Verbindung mal nicht. Von einer Funktionierenden App kann NICHT die Rede sein. Schade. Verbindung mit dem Stift nur wenn das iPad an ist? Auslesen der Stiftdaten funktioniert nicht? Obwohl die Stifte einwandfrei erkannt werden an ihrer MAC Adresse? Genauso dass es auf einem Gerät die Daten korrekt anzeigt, auf dem zweiten nach der Syncronisierung nicht? Weder WLAN gebunden noch per Mobilfunk? Da ist noch Arbeit nötig. Auch das erkennen einzelner neuer Blätter bzw Notizbücher geht auf einem Gerät, auf dem anderen nicht. Noch viel Arbeit in kleinem, packen wir es an.

The transfer process requires logging into a web app with NeoLab credentials. If you logged into NeoStudio 2022 with Apple credentials it looks like you’re out of luck.

I shifted from Neo studio 2022 because they said it was deprecated. I was able to transfer all the data from that account up to the web app when I log into the web app using Apple login. These transferred pages appear on the neo studio 2 app. But now anything I write is not uploaded to the web it says it is sinking but I think something is wrong. The Neo studio two app has an Apple lprivateapplerelay email address and the web app is showing my actual email address. Even though I used Apple login for both of them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I created a test page on pg 247 and for 5 min it worked beautifully- anything I write on the page would show up on the app, I could change colors - I was so happy. Then it all disappeared and the forever swirl appeared. Whether page 247 or any other page, no sync, and constant swirl. Totally unusable. Beautiful notebook though. May be I’ll just use a fountain pen.

My wife purchased the LAMY Safari Ncode pen and digital paper for me. Since the beginning, the pen does not synchronize the data properly. It recognizes the writing is in process, and saves the data into hardware (it seems). Upon synchronization the iOS or MacOS app does not show the writing on the pages, despite it recognizes the right page numbers have been used. I contacted the support, even send them detailed video that clearly shows the problem visually. 
The web version was initially showing me the synchronized data, and I was fine using the web version, but even that stopped showing me the wiring on the pages for the last 5 page. 
Frustrating part is that the support team stopped answering my emails, I don’t seem to find any other communication channel. It has been more than 2 weeks and they did not answer my last 3 emails, so I’m assuming if the device and app works for you, you are fine. Based on the bad review numbers, I am assuming my device is defective, but I don’t know how to return it since they are not providing me any response. At the end, I cannot even tell my wife because she will so upset that I’m using a standard ballpoint pen (and a really bad one on that), and paper notebook, that I could have find better options. 
If you are using a good product, that’s awesome!I’m happy for you. If you got the lottery, then it seems you throw away your >$180.

I just got the LAMY code pen with the Neo planner and notebooks.  The pen connects to the app, the app recognizes the pen correctly, when you start writing the app automatically recognizes the notebook and tries to synchronize. However, after uploading the data from the and verification of the download, the app does not show any of my notes in the notebooks. It logs the notebook or planner I used, but the page previews are empty and the pages do not load anything after I try to open them. So as of now the pen and the notebooks are useless and I am waiting for a feedback from both Neo and LAMY. Highly likely to return because the app does not work as intended at all. I’m stuck with almost two hundred dollars worth of a ball point pen.

Bought their 2026 planner and an N2 smart pen. The app does not recognize the smart pen, so I cannot register the pen. I have tried to register my N2 with this app on 4 separate devices: iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPad Pro M1, google fold, and galaxy tab s10. Only the android devices recognize the N2 within the Bluetooth settings, but the app itself does not recognize the pen on either device. I downloaded their Pen Manager app onto my M1 MBP hoping I can update the firmware, but the app always crashes upon opening it. I've lost all faith in trying to have the perfect smart planner set up, so I will not order their smart planner and R1 for my wife, brother, and sister-in-law as originally planned.

カレンダー連動の設定が知らない間にオフになっている。戻しても不定期なタイミングでオフになる。
カレンダーに連動してくれていると思っていたのに反映されていないと大きなトラブルにつながる。ネオスマートペンの売りの一つの機能の信頼性がないと高価なペンや手帳を購入した意味が全くない。製品の根幹に関わる問題なので至急改善してほしい。
またデータ通信していない環境でノートを見ることができないのもおかしい。

Handwriting transcription cannot compare to that Neo 2022, words are being placed out of sequence, I’ve spent more time trying to fix sentences and moving words around compared with the one or two minor corrections in the previous app. It’s been over 2 months and still nothing has changed.

I just used the Neo Smart Pen for the first time, and found it worked great! 
As soon as I opened the app, the pen prompted me to connect, even while charging. Once charged to 100% (~30-45 mins from 30%), I took it for test drive. 
The physical pen is very sleek, with a good weight, not too heavy and not too light or plasticky. It is cosmetically appealing, and the ‘camera’ is placed in a spot that is nearly impossible to cover up while writing, even with manhandle of a pen grip. 
The app itself is very intuitive, it shows you the Pen’s battery percent, and connects as soon as you take off the pen cap. You can adjust several settings, such as the color of the text, digitally. This is super helpful for going back over my notes, and I’m already excited to swap out some old notebooks for these ones.  

Finally, a small but in my eyes important note; the User Guide was clear and concise. It took less than a minute to read, unlike my review, which made setup completely unburden-some.

Thanks for improving to this app. The pen is fantastic and I love the ability to go back and take a look at the notes I wrote has been very useful and much better than carrying a tablet around
