## What is Nerdish?

Nerdish is a learning app that helps you grow your general knowledge. The articles inside are our own — written to show you things you'd never thought to look up, feed your curiosity, and help you learn more about the world.

You can read them or listen to them, and most take about ten minutes: why people like spicy food, what Nefertiti actually looked like, how the internet crosses oceans.

What's inside:
- Articles we write ourselves. Each one starts with a question our editors find interesting, and gets researched properly before it's written.
- Topics from the life around you. Sleep, coffee, déjà vu, the internet, Nefertiti — things you pass by every day without wondering about them.
- Our own writing framework. It keeps every article interesting and concise, but still genuinely educational — a lot of thought went into getting all three at once.
- Built as microlearning for adults. Short chapters of a couple of minutes each, designed to fit a phone screen and a busy day.
- Audio for everything. Read it, listen to it, or follow the text while it plays.
- Historical photographs, archive material and artwork alongside the text, with facts and details in the margins.
- A wide range of subjects, from the human body to ancient history — and the connections between them.

We built Nerdish for people who:
- would rather spend phone time on something better than socials. Same ten minutes, different outcome.
- enjoy learning random things for no particular reason. Curiosity doesn't need a goal attached to it.
- want to stay mentally sharp. Reading something unfamiliar is a small habit that keeps the mind working.
- want to find their way back to reading. Short pieces are easier to start with than a book you've been meaning to open for months.
- want to have more to say — about art, history, or why the sky is blue.

Why it works:
There's no way to measure general knowledge and no point where you have enough. But it's what you're using when you read the news, or decide whether something sounds true, or find a solution that came from somewhere unrelated.

Hardly any of us sets out to work on our knowledge. Nobody ever taught us how — there's no course in general knowledge, nowhere obvious to begin. So it stays on the list of things you'd like to do.

Nerdish works because the mechanism is already there. Curiosity is what built your general knowledge in the first place, and it doesn't need much — an interesting question and ten minutes. And knowledge doesn't stay in separate piles. We write science with its history in it, history with its culture, and culture with the people behind it — nothing is only about one thing.

Love the app came across it and thought I’d try it out and I love the way it breaks down the reading into manageable chunks and the fun facts or did you know. Really helps someone like me with dyslexia. 

The only thing I’d wish the app had was a reference list or clear sources for us to do additional research or fact check as there’s no real proof of where the information is sourced from. And would be great to dive deeper so if that could be added that’d be even better!

I had this app for about 2 weeks and I loved it a lot. But then I realized that they use AI and some of the facts are wrong. I'm super disappointed because I love the concept of the app. Maybe if this gets fixed and Nerdish becomes credible I'll redownload it.

Can’t read anything without an ad. Either that or you pay for a subscription.

**Developer response:** This isn't a scam, and the accusation is simply false. Nerdish is free — you can read without paying a cent. The ads are exactly what keeps it free. A subscription is entirely optional: it removes ads and adds extras like audio and sync. There's nothing hidden and nothing deceptive here — free reading is available to everyone.

If you’re not looking for it or thinking about it, you will miss that they use AI, OR it might even be marketed to you that they are AI free, as it was for me. I don’t specifically blame Nerdish for that marketing because I heard about it from someone else promoting them. I started reading an article and immediately got this feeling that they were using AI, and sure enough, if you go into Settings and FAQ, they say that they have a team of real human editors, but they admit that they use AI with the excuse that “most modern companies do.” I do appreciate the upfront honesty about it, but this is no excuse!!! AI is untrustworthy in its sources and information. There are other reviews even complaining about inaccurate information. Even if they’re not using it for “aiding in” writing the articles (which I doubt), AI data centers are putting our planet at HIGH risk of destruction and ruin, not to mention all of the jobs that AI is taking from artists. Please Nerdish, if you read this, I beg you to reconsider. I love the concept of this app. I really wish I could bring myself to enjoy it, but as a human who highly values art, intelligence, our planet, and HUMAN made connections and knowledge… I just can’t.

I’ve been enjoying this app so far, it’s a nice way to do some light reading and learn things here and there instead of scrolling. However, it irritates me that there are no references or source material linked in the articles. Plus, I keep on reading quite obvious grammatical mistakes in these articles which makes that even harder to ignore, and makes me question the validity of what I’m reading (also just makes for a worse reading experience). Hopefully this is at least proof that the articles aren’t written by ai lol

This app is a real treasure ! It’s easy to use it, the informations are not too hard to understand so it makes it accessible for everyone. It has also a big variety of topics and even if you don’t take a premium subscription you can totally learn things just fine. To keep your brain from rotting during vacation and gain culture it’s perfect!
