"Reality is often disappointing." Plus, requires your location, which is unnecessary tracking. You're letting a random company track your location for absolutely nothing. Save your money for something else, folks. ### 1/5 — victim of net nanny *2024-07-24, version 10.6.2* it all began on a tuesday morning. i woke up, tried to go on my cute lil youtube shorts AND I COULDNT!! wanna know why?? net nanny. my day was ruined. i got my snack and sat down to eat and bam, no youtube shorts. just that picture of the lil girl shrugging. why’s she shrugging anyways? she knows what she’s doin. ruining my day. anyways, it’s day 2 of net nanny but i’m staying strong. don’t use the app if you want your kids day to be decent 🤠 ### 1/5 — Bruh, *2024-07-16, version 10.6.2* I hate this app, it does not work! I will wake up in the morning and it will say that I used all my time. One time I woke up and it had said that I had spend 25 hours on my phone in that one day. And on top of that if I go over my screen time, I will have no internet. The only thing I can do is text. Over all it is just a pain. If you are looking for some kind of screen time thing, use the apple screen time because it is so much better. ### 1/5 — does not work *2024-05-19, version 10.6.2* after installation when using apps it says now internet. this might be the certificate not renewed as mentioned in the last review or two ### 1/5 — Net Nanny *2024-04-28* (21/4/24) Great app that causes trust issues and unhealthy relationships between you and your child honestly I actually don’t know the single purpose of this app. yes, it has “control” and “management” over a child’s device—if you can even call it that—but it clearly does it poorly. This is one hell of an app; there are glitches and is too expensive for a parent control app. my father has tried putting it on my pc (he has paid the money for it), and guess what? It took forever loading and when it did—it didnt work at all. he has contacted the team with emails and reviews but then again, one hell of an app, he got no help. the fact that parental controls like this one basically destroys your relationship with your child after download. they invade privacy (which is important, let me tell you that), which causes negativity between you and your child and trust issues. it has every little detail about your child from this: location, activity, apps opened, history, etc. you’re controlling your children in a way that you shouldn’t. if you really want your children to remember all this when they’re older—feel free to download. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work on iPhone Anymore *2024-04-10, version 10.6.2* This app doesn’t work. Won’t install on the iPhone. Apparently an issue with the security certificate with Apple expired. It will often simply block everything except for texting (no photos or even words copied from photos) and calling. Especially when I talk about stuff with my friends that only THEY need to know and my parents DON’T, it’s really annoying. If I’m able to make a suggestion, let the kids monitor it themselves. Like, you can give a warning to kids if the website they’re going to has been detected with ‘unsafe’ or ‘harmful’ content, but let them decide whether they want to go there or not. Parents don’t have to know EVERYTHING, as long as it’s not severe like pornhub or something. I had to write this review on a document instead on the App Store at first because of the restrictions that Net Nanny give me. Even worse these restrictions weren’t set by my parents. Net Nanny set them. The no Internet thing, my dad got rid of that as soon as he gave started this app for me. It still gives me a internet limit of four hours. Also, the timer runs even when the screen is off. So if I use it in the morning, I don’t have Internet for the rest of the school day. My dad downloaded net nanny on my phone, and on my computer so I can’t even do school work for the 2 last periods of school. The worst part, the last 2 periods are lunch (I can’t use my phone for communication or entertainment) and English ( the only important subject I have this semester) net nanny also sometimes just stops the NN Child app from working and sends me a notification to restart the app when clicked. But the clicking doesn’t work. I still don’t have internet access after. Every time my internet access ends, I will message my dad to give me more but net nanny also sometimes blocks the messages app. Since NN is an app in your phone or computer, VPNs also don’t work. It also automatically blocks social media apps and websites so I can’t use discord, google chat, instagram, for any communication. Even worse, my friends use Google chat and Instagram. My school uses Instagram for clubs and teams. and I need discord for two of my classes for group project work. I was also blocked from Google classroom even and my dad had to manually unblock it. it seems like NN’s idea child protection is to just block Internet completely. I also get an anxiety whenever I have to tell someone that there is a parental controls app monitoring me. Overall, it is very annoying to use for both my parents and me I wish any other app to monitor me. My entire social life is decimated by this one app, for a ninth grader, that is a big deal. I have Let down my friends multiple times because of the restrictions this gives. Sure, sometimes it blocks random websites, rather than just a picture, but it is reasonable. My parents just want to keep me safe, even though sometimes their extent seems a bit dramatic. This app does what it’s supposed to do, it blocks out whatever your parents don’t want you viewing. But, it is a bit invasive. It makes me feel like my parents don’t trust me, even though I know that isn’t the case. As a request to the app producers, please give the app the ability to function without m having to be open all the time. It doesn’t drain battery being open, I just end up swiping it away out of habit. It would also help those children that are immature and are trying to rebel against their parents. Ever since the update, the app would shut itself down every five minutes or so. To the developer: I only ask that you guys can fix this please. Once fixed I will change my review. Thank you. ### 3/5 — Works, But Inconsistently (and a major loophole) *2022-08-01* I installed Net Nanny as a filter on my own iPhone (ai am over 18 by a mile or two or 10). The filter itself works well for blocking inappropriate content, save for a significant loophole that I won’t disclose here but will pass along in an E-mail to the developers. The big issue is that while the version for PCs works very well when connected to my home network, the iPhone app with the Net Nanny VPN that routes traffic through their servers to filter content is very inconsistent and unreliable. There are times it works seamlessly as if NN isn’t even there, while at other times, it absolutely “bricks” the phone and acts like there is absolutely no network connection, even after their recommended troubleshooting to “reboot” the VPN connection. Murphy’s Law being what it is, I reached a breaking point last week when I was trying to find an urgent care clinic. First, I couldn’t pull up the clinic website for a long time; when I finally did, I tried to open the map, and that map never opened. I finally found the clinic by accident, but it should never have come to that. NN rendered a $1,200 phone totally useless. Yea, there IS a way to temporarily disable NN, but you have to have a network connection because it E-mails you a “password of the day,” but if the VPN isn’t playing nice, YOU CAN’T SEND THE REQUEST OR GET THE E-MAIL WITH THE PASSWORD! Also, while NN has a way to tell it what websites to allow, there seems to be no provision to allow or unblock an iPhone app. My church uses Signal for our security team (due to recent events, we have had to provide security watch both during our services and when nearby protests and demonstrations are scheduled). NN totally renders Signal useless; after uninstalling NN temporarily, I finally received two weeks worth of communication. I’ll give the app another try, but if that fails, I’ll just have to revert to a flip phone. I had to get a new phone. I’ll say it. My phone was NOT receiving texts from anyone not even my mom. My friends are now ex friends and my best friend thought I was ignoring her for 3 months because I didn’t receive her texts. I still do think this app has some potential but overall is kinda risky.
