## What is Neumz?

The complete Gregorian chant, including many world-premiere recordings, synchronized with square-note scores, accompanied by the neumatic notations of St. Gall and Laon, Latin texts, and translations into English, is now available in your pocket! Neumz is the largest recording project ever undertaken, more than 9000 hours of music of transcendental beauty for the soul sung by the community of Benedictine nuns of Notre-Dame de Fidélité de Jouques and the Benedictine monks of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux. Sacred chants soothe us, deepen our souls, unite us to God, lift our spirits, and bring us into a more intimate relationship with the Eternal Father. Let yourself be carried away by the flowing, vibrant, immensely expressive melodic movement of Gregorian chant: pray, meditate, and become aware of what is essential to our project; everyone in peace, united in sacred praise. Enjoy this universal chant to God, which can accompany you in your moments of prayer and meditation on the Word, thus elevating your spirit. Neumz accompanies you in this connection and intimacy with God.

“The recordings of clear unaccompanied voices are speckled with authentic sounds such as the creak of wooden benches, the occasional coughing or dropping of prayer books and bell chimes.” The Guardian

COMPLETE LATIN RITE
Neumz is the first complete recording and digital source of liturgical materials for the Roman Rite: the entire contents of the Psalter, Lectionary, Collectary, Antiphonary, Responsoriary, and Gradual are assembled into a "Liber Digitalis," now featuring both Novus and Vetus Ordo.
Neumz presents the liturgy with an easy-to-use solar calendar.
The chants of the Divine Office and the Ordinary and Propers of the Mass are presented in their natural context.

HOW IT WORKS
Create or log in to your existing account.
Carry the entire Divine Office in your pocket!
Follow the square note score of each chant, synchronized to scroll with the music.
Follow the Latin texts with their English translation as they scroll line by line to the music.
Soothing and calming, this music is seemingly suspended in an eternal oscillation, at once both reaffirming and canceling the sensation of time, inducing a meditative state by simultaneously enhancing focus and relaxation.

GREGORIAN CHANT
Gregorian chant is the music of the Western Church, sung for over 1000 years without interruption. The Benedictine order adopted it as the music for its prayers and has cultivated it ever since.
The serene sounds of these ancient chants have proven to be a real source of calm for our users worldwide, regardless of beliefs. This medieval music is perfect for prayer, meditation, focus and relaxation.

THE ABBEYS
The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Fidélité is a monastery of Benedictine nuns located in Jouques, near Aix-en-Provence, France. The growth of the community allowed them to found the monastery Notre-Dame de l’Écoute in Benin and L’Abbaye Notre-Dame de Miséricorde in Rosans. As of 2020, the community in Jouques includes forty-five sisters.
The Abbey of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux is also in French Provence. A community of over fifty monks chant the Tridentine Rite and cultivate the land to make wine, olive oil, lavender, and bread. The Vetus Ordo recordings were funded through Repertorium.eu, a Horizon Europe research and innovation grant.

### 3/5 — Still Has Bugs

*2026-03-06*

I like the app. Who doesn’t love Gregorian Chant by actual nuns and monks? However, the continual play feature does not work for me. This severely limits my enjoyment and use of the app. I like that I’m supporting the two religious organizations, but may look for an alternative if the app isn’t updated to fix the bugs.

### 3/5 — Needs work. A lot of it.

*2025-11-17*

Great ideea. Not ready for prime. Kind of unusable and convoluted. I'm a paying sub. Will not rewnew due to these reasons.

**Developer response:** Please reach out to let us know what issues you encountered.

### 1/5 — Unreal (in a bad way)

*2025-09-03*

Everything is behind a paywall except the missal. As if we need YET ANOTHER missal available.

**Developer response:** You have misunderstood - the novus ordo is available with Masses and all Offices. The free version limits you to the office of the current time of day. In the Vetus Odro currently only the Masses are available as we are still integrating the offices. That’s not a question of paywall but of our work! By end of year we should have all masses and vespers. The Novus Ordo is complete.

### 5/5 — Greatest App of All Time

*2025-08-06*

Priceless! God bless everyone who contributed to this.

### 4/5 — Subscription model for all features - Free content is great

*2025-04-15*

***Updating from 2 stars to 4 stars*** Spring 2025 After receiving a response from the developer, and redownloading the app, I find that I can now access the content of the given hour of prayer. (previously I was unable to access the hourly chant without first creating an account, but I think that this problem was fixed by updating my iPad to the latest version - something I’m often loathe to do; but that is no fault of the developer). The app is as described, and is indeed the only accessible recording of all of the chants. And to have it sung by the faithful of this Benedictine community is another triumph for the app. There is also a download feature for any given chant; but it seems you cannot download a full day at a time, or a full week at a time. Being in an industry which sends me to odd places in the world and often on flights and on ships without internet, it would be an incredible feature to include (I realize 9000 hours of recordings can’t fit onto any normal device; and it might take a lot of work to create some sort of alternative where only a few days or a week could be downloaded at a time). ***But now I will also include a bit of criticism. While it is a blessing (and I mean it, this work is momentous), the price of $7.99 per month to access everything is something I am unwilling to do. For that I would need professional recordings. And while the recordings are good; it is several notches down from professional, both the quality of the recording itself, and the quality of the singing. It is beautiful, reverent, and to be there in person would be divine. But I cannot justify paying $7.99 per month to continually have access. I would pay $1.00 for the rest of my life; but as it stands, for $7.99 I can purchase a premium music subscription, or I could buy a premium sheetmusic subscription; or for $50 I could own forever several hundreds of hours of chant and follow it with a $10 book which I own, and never need to pay again, or to lose service when I’m offline. *** All of this to say; as a free app, its really fantastic. I am very thankful for it. I would give it 5 stars if this were only a free app with the free features. But since the app contains so much promise, with such a hefty recurring price, without ever owning anything; simply renting the ability to listen, I will keep the review at 4 stars.***** Below you will see my previous 2 star review from a month or so ago: Please excuse this low-review, but I think I have good reasons. I will haply upgrade my review to 4 stars if it was possible to at least sample it without having to pay. I would increase to 5 Stars if I could purchase content outright (instead of paying a subscription - happy to pay more for more content as it is released). Once you download the app, you will find that you are unable to listen to or view anything until you have created an account. You cannot sign in with Apple ID, but must create an account manually. Then you must wait (apparently) until the exact time that the particular mass or chant you wish to listen to occurs in real time. That is to say, it is currently 7:17am and I am unable to access any of the content. In order to access any of it even to sample, I must pay $7.99 just to try it for one month. This resource description is amazing. I would love to give it a try. But I’m not interested in a subscription model in which I do not own the rights and to which I could lose them at any time (such as when I am deployed by the military without internet for months - or at the whim of anyone who gains control of the app in the future who doesn’t have the heart of the creators and decides to place more restrictions on its use. I have seen it happen to other apps). Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Abbey; I respectfully request you make this app less money-centric. A laborer is worthy of his wages. Please offer 1)Samples to any user who downloads. 2) The ability to purchase forever music with options to purchase more as it is released or new features are added. 3) An option to donate on a recurring basis [which I would also happily do!]. Blessings - J. Michael

**Developer response:** You can follow the offices hour by hour and day by day with a free account. Yes, internet is required, but we feel this is the best way to offer the liturgy as widely as possible to those who use it to pray meanwhile offering a paid service that can support the communities and cover some of the cost of creating and maintaining the app itself.

### 5/5 — The only app you need for the Divine Office

*2025-04-11, version 4.4*

Having recently returned from a retreat in a Benedictine monastery, I set to find an which could help me continue the experience - to some degree.
I tried several applications but all fell short: Latin only, English only, no music, music only but no text.
This is the only app which brings together the liturgy of the hour, the text in both Latin and the language of your choice, and includes the beautiful singing of the nuns.

### 3/5 — Coughing & Clearing Throats

*2024-12-17*

Please, could you ask those singers who are being captured on these recordings to dismiss themselves from being recorded as it is a terrible distraction to the beauty of the chant. Thank you for your consideration as I hope to one day become a patron of Neumz as I myself am a member of our parish’s Schola for TLM.

### 1/5 — Broke

*2024-12-04*

Thanks for breaking this app so we are forced to pay for subscription. May almighty God show mercy

**Developer response:** Hello, nothing of the sort has occurred, we have the same policy as always: free for the current office, subscription buys you play on demand and other features. Nothing has changed! Two-thirds of revenues support the communities.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2024-12-02*

It appears that the application is no longer functioning. Following the suggestion to select the calendar, the only available option is to download the file, which requires a subscription. Unfortunately, streaming and viewing capabilities are no longer accessible.

**Developer response:** We have had no other similar complaints, please write to info@neumz.com to explain the malfunction and we will try to resolve the problem.
