A couple of niggles ... the notifications are way too frequent and there’s no obvious way to narrow the feed so will probably end up turning them off and just getting breaking news headlines notified from another app. shame. one off cost of $4.99 to turn off ads, not a big investment for a good app and worth doing. overall a nice discovery. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Adds abound *2025-09-10, version 5.0.25* Downloaded this app only to open it to very little news but lots add for other Apps. They just kept coming i couldn’t even explore the news. Or subscribe to the news. So after 5mins ive deleted this app very disappointing. ### 1/5 — DELETED! *2025-08-04, version 5.0.25* Ridiculous! Lasted about 5 mins until I was sick of waiting for the ads to play and then closing the ad screens and then deleted the App. Also you have to agree to its term and conditions. But it does so after about 10 secs. Before you decide to. Then if you look at its data usage. It collect, tracks and collates all your data and info to sell on. Just an app to scrap your data and bombard you with ads. Wasting your time while the ads drool on. ### 1/5 — Frozen *2023-05-28, version 3.9.8* Why is NZ News stuck on news that is 2 days old. It has been like that all weekend and will not refresh. ### 1/5 — Now riddled with ads *2022-12-20, version 3.9.8* It used to be a great app with a good selection of articles from a variety of sources. Unfortunately, a recent "update" now serves up 1 advertisement for every 5 articles ... with a few other adds thrown in for good measure. For me, this is like going to a buffet of nice food and seeing a cow pat after every 5th food item; it's totally off-putting. Look - I get it - developers need to make money; but for the love of "chocolate" please do it the usual ways (pay for an ad-less experience by purchasing the app for paying for a subscription). For me the app is now going to be deleted quickly if they don't come back to me quickly with a way to turn them off. ### 1/5 — Confusing App, counterintuitive *2019-07-11, version 3.9.2* Not recommended. I live in America and bought the app to gain access to NZ news. Most articles are about tawdry American celebrities and the Tinder-like instructions to remove them don’t work. I deleted the app after 5 frustrating minutes. ### 1/5 — Looks good but difficult to open *2019-04-10, version 3.9.2* The pop up advertising once I open the app doesn’t go away when I try to push the x button. When I eventually remove it the app freezes and takes ages to load. By then I don’t care about the.news and move on. Goodbye app, you have been deleted off my phone. Now I can’t send my review cause all my nick names are used by other people! ### 1/5 — Poor *2016-11-11, version 3.2.5* Nope. Too many adds and you have to open each story for detail.
