Every article has spelling mistakes, typo’s & awful grammar. Journalists are supposed to have an excellent grasp of the English language. Yeh main irritation is the the live NUFC blog always resets to the bottom of the page and you have to scroll to the top of it whenever you want to read the latest news. The Chronic website is an absolute car crash but with strong adblocking it’s a better bet than this creepy app. ### 2/5 — Not fit for purpose *2025-04-23* This Newcastle Chronicle Live app is clearly not fit for purpose, continually locking, articles freezing and jumping, stories unable to load. Typically it’s all 3 days adrift from the online web portal. I have to go on google and ensure the endless streams of ads. Also why turn comments off when it involves potentially controversial reporting. You try to scroll down the page and you end up on some stupid advert. ### 1/5 — RIP off subscription *2024-02-15, version 9.2.2* I started using the app as it was a good experience. However a major change has happened. The content is limited to 25 free articles per week and then premium content behind a paywall. Do not subscribe- open Safari. The premium content is all free on their website. Unable to complete because the app won’t redirect me to my bank. I know this because the message simultaneously comes from my bank that it is the fault of the chronicle site. ### 1/5 — Cash Grab *2026-05-09, version 26.4.8* After years of using this I’m now off to BBC. You get limited access per week (7 clicked articles) and there’s also premium articles…both accessible for a monthly fee. It’s frustrating and I hope this is the start of a doom spiral trying to cash grab, feels like a very poor business decision. Many articles are national not local and now no longer able to read the majority of news as its behind a paywall Will be out of business by Christmas unless they do something fast as noone in their right mind would pay! The headlines are a particular joy, often leaving one scratching one’s head wondering what actually happened. I went to read the story of 2 NUFC signings and I found myself reading Steve Bruce signings, as if we hadn’t read enough about Bruce the Chron now force feeding us with “so called “ news about him.
